I learned so much, Thank-you! I always didn't know they were invasive or that it will be a bush! My zone in N'W Iowa they sadly don't come back. I'm going to overwinter mine this year.

Here in California, Lantana is a hearty shrub. I cut them way back in the winter and they come back like gangbusters and bloom all summer. September is definitely their best month here also.

I am in Zone 8b California, inland Southern Monterey County. I am curious whether you have found them to be invasive in your area. I just planted some and am now reconsidering because I hate invasive plants. They are so hard to get rid of. I had guara be invasive for me and it literally took 4 years to eradicate it. 😬

I'm in Central FL zone 9B. They are great for gardens but I don't let them go to seed. Usually they get a haircut to keep them small and manageable. On another note, I don't know if anyone will get this, but every time I hear "riparian", I always think of Mrs. Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances and her Riparian Picnic.

Hi Jim. This has been the most comprehensive info on Lantanas I’ve seen. First I had no idea they were poisonous. Second I had no idea this attracts hummingbirds. That explained why I suddenly saw one for the very first time in my NY suburban garden. I was truly surprised. ❤

Hummingbirds, bees and butterflies have loved my Lantana over the years so this year I thought I might move them from their nursery pots in the courtyard into the garden this fall to see if they would come back next spring. I'll plant them as to what I hope will be permeance but hey this southern exposure in zone 8, upstate SC, is always a lottery shoot. Thank you for so much for the information.

I learned about Lantana from watching your channel for a few years now. It is by far - my most favorite annual (MI 6a/b) each and every year. It is the last thing I pull out of my beds due to their longevity and successful show of color. I can't say enough about them and always suggest it to fellow gardeners. If it weren't for you introducing it to your viewers - I honestly don't think I would have purchased them. Thank you, Jim and Stephany!

Don't get hysterical if one of your pets eat some Lantana. But be aware. My horse ate a bunch of it when I had him lose hours a few days. I finally had to cut all my lantana down to stumps because he kept eating it. He had no negative reactions. And my friends big dog would run around her yard attacking it and pulling branches off. But be cautious, it is said to be poisonous. Our animals were big so they could handle more than small animals.

My mandevillas are huge and showy here in late summer early fall z8A NC Sandhills. So easy. I sink them into the ground in pots usually late April. A drip irrigation emitter for each pot plus liquid fertilizer now and then. No other maintenance. Cut them back and pull the pots out before Frost. Put them in your crawl space where they hang out until March. Pull them out, cut them back, start fertilizing and watering and they'll be ready to go for another year. I had a real issue with a type of lantana called Anne Marie this year. Very sparse flowering, leggy even though constantly cutting them back and almost immediately setting seed after blooming. It looked like a blackberry bush!! Very disappointing. I've grown Miss Huff and many other Proven Winners lantana very successfully.

Feeling frustrated! I planted lantana when I redid my drought tolerant yard. I have a small yard in an age restricted development. I have a gardener who keeps telling me they will come back. I am in CA, zone 9, and had lantana put in in 2022, performed well until this year. They died back, have leafed out, but no blooms or signs of. For privacy I am seeking a tall (4-5 ft.) shrub type. Is there something I should be doing to enhance blooming?

I live in zone 9 and my lantanas were planted last year. I was hoping for them to grow into a nice bush row. They have not grown much at all since planting. They are pretty scraggly even, much to my dismay. Do you have any recommendations to get them to grow? I was so excited originally because they are "fast growing" but mine are not. It is the Lucky color variation and I see others in my area thriving. Any tips?

I’m going to try to over winter some lantana. I have an unrelated question. I started lupines and sea holly from seed late in the spring. 😮They are doing well, maybe about 4 inches tall. My first instinct is to take them into the basement for the winter. But then thinking they need to experience winter in order to wake up next spring. They are in 4 inch pots so I’m thinking they need a little protection since they’re not in the ground yet. Should I plant the in the ground where I want them to grow or just leave them in the little pots in a protected area? I was in North Carolina last week. Visited Creekside and S & K. Wish you had a place I could visit and meet you. Enjoy your videos!

Can u give me a heads up on what to do about it! I also have a Dallas red, white! The blooms come out buttery yellow and then turn white! The Dallas red get around 4 to 4 1/2’ and wide but the white gets 3 1/2 to 4’ and about 5’ or more wide. This yr I planted 7 more of the white, 3 low crawling purple and 4 clear yellow and the yellow has gone crazy! I started to cut the yellow back but noticed they are covered in more blooms!
