Hi Mollie! I usually enjoy watching your videos in the morning with a cup of coffee! Would you be interested in making an in-depth video about style sheets? Keep up the good work!

Thankfully my sister who is also doing NaNo reads my chapters once I'm done with them, so anything immediately obvious she catches for me and I can change (and I do the same for her). From my experience writing scientific manuscripts, however, I know that I'll have to go through many, many, MANY revisions before coming up with a finished product. Great vid as always!

I love that you and your sister are doing NaNo together. That's the coolest thing ever! And YES it's so true... scientific manuscripts are terrifying to me, lol. xx

Thanks for sharing this wealth of knowledge! I do love CMOS! I am starting a new career path as a proofreader. I am currently building my website and LinkedIn profile. Would you find it beneficial to include editors as a niche target market? Do authors ask their editors for recommendations on proofreaders? Thanks!

Hi Mollie. I love your videos! I wonder if you would consider closed captioning? It is not accessible without the CC function so lots of learners are missing ou ton your awesome teaching. Thanks!

Question: if checking the accuracy of quotations (within the main text) is part of the proofreading process, what about the accuracy of footnotes? Is it standard procedure for a proofreader to check each source to ensure that it (the source) actually says what the author is claiming it says?

Recently I've been so insecure about editing, I'm 16 but I want to be an editor and I would totally love to edit books in English but I'm afraid that authors won't trust me and my knowledge/aptitudes/abilities bc I'm Argentinean and I'm just feeling so unmotivated

Milo Molinari ohhhh myyyy hola, yo también soy de Argentina. He sido suscriptora de Mollie por muchos años. Creí que era la única de aquí que miraba sus videos. Pero no... ¡Sí! ¿A qué te referís con editar en inglés? ¿Planeas hacer traducciones o...?
@glitteracido

Faia Halo Hola! Y no, jaja, me refiero a edición del manuscrito en sí, no la traducción

Girl! I feel you. This is SUCH a real fear. You are so not alone in that. I think a lot of editors struggle with the "imposter syndrome" idea, because it can sometimes feel overwhelming how much there is to learn. As an editor, I'm constantly learning and growing-and I think I always will! But the fact that you're 16 and so interested in editing is amazing. You've totally got a head start ;) I'd say just take it a day at a time or a small step at a time. The more experience you get, the more confidence you will build! And once you have some clients who trust your knowledge/aptitudes/abilities under your belt, your testimonials can speak for themselves. You got this, girl! xx

I still struggle with separating proofreading from copyediting, especially with online formats of manuscripts in Microsoft Word or Google Docs-never have I seen an actual “proof” of a book, physical or PDF. I suppose I more accurately fit the (unofficial?) cross-category of “proof-editing,” but I lean toward charging proofreading rates because I don’t market myself as a copyeditor… Quite the quandary, I must say.

As a freelance proofreader: do I need to actually fix the errors or simply point out the errors?
@MrMadieu
@MrMadieu 2 года назад
I’ve recently started out with proof reading and it varies. The last book I proof read (online), the Author wanted me to mark the errors in red (using word in one drive) He then decided to add to the story which needed proof reading & once that was done, I was asked to remove all of errors and turn the entire book back to black print. I was also given the job to edit, format & page number too. So it really depends on the customer and their needs. Some will choose working from a printed version, whilst others will work digitally. I need to check out proof reading e-books and if this differs in any way? Hope this helps?

Proofreading must be tedious,i think some people give up,i have read plenty of novels with so many typos and spelling mistakes,probably even my own work :P

It's SO true! I think so many people are familiar with that experience of finding typos in print. It feels like it shouldn't happen, but it does all the time!

I am 17 and really love books. I want to be a book editor but don't know how to go about with it... I am Indian and am not aware of the scope here (doing a bit of research on it though). I fear the stereotypical mindset here... I am really confused! Please help : /
