As simple and common as it is , sometimes those are the things that take us by surprise and I think Quartz is a master at doing that & many start with Quartz due too it’s availability price wise and for the fact you can get some really big pieces for fair prices and there’s too many choices when then including other members like Amethyst 🤷🏽‍♂️. Especially with all the forms and types and just changes the locality adds aswell. A natural sceptre formation , that was borderline perfection was my first real lusty specimen I obtained early on and it caught me so of guard because of how perfectly straight all faces and edges are…. We all know this , as it’s why we’re here but there’s really no greater artist than nature it’s self 💎 and it’s so cool how breathless nature can leave you .

Heyoo, love this channel. Is lavender rose quartz heat treated or just grown in another area. Thankyou
@gems
@gems 3 года назад
Lavender quartz is found in nature, mined in Brazil and Madagascar, but the production of lavender quartz is less than 1% of Rose Quartz production. Traditionally, Lavender and Rose Quartz do not need to be heated. But they often can be polished with colored wax. As such, they should be disclosed as dyed.

Cool! Thank you for featuring the quartz family. I got my 20 something carat Prasiolite several months back and I was kinda skeptical when I was told by the gem dealer that it is called “green amethyst”. Quick question. Is there any way to tell if the prasiolite is “untreated”, heated or with COBALT? I hope you can also feature the Garnet family. Coming from the experts like you guys would be very big help. (Specifically Pyrope vs. Almandine/ Hessonite vs. Spessartite) Thank you sooo much..
@gems
@gems 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! We'll definitely do something with garnet in the future! In terms of distinguishing between prasiolite that is natural vs. heated vs. irradiated with cobalt…there isn’t a lot of research in this area, since the testing is quite expensive for something as affordable as quartz. As we covered in the video, natural prasiolite is usually of a darker, browner shade of green. It’s also so rare that you’re probably best off assuming your stone is treated, unless you have compelling evidence otherwise. In terms of whether it was heat treated or irradiated with cobalt… irradiated prasiolite can be paler in color and can lose its color if it is heated above 150 degrees Celsius (302 degrees Fahrenheit). But we would not recommend this test.

So my question is when you heat up amethyst, what will differ between making it turn green or into citrine? Or is it mineral/chemical compounds?

If y'all can get ahold of it I'd like for y'all to do Virginia blue quartz which I have gem quality specimens I can send that I have only found in one 2 mile location here in VA and it's almost an opalescent blue and very translucent. It's blue when you hold it down at eye level but turns a very orange and amber color when light is behind it!!! 💙💎

How can one tell the difference between topazes and quartz? And citrine and smoky quartz vs. golden topaz and smoky topaz?
@gems
@gems 3 года назад
There are several simple gem tests, using tools like the polariscope and refractometer that can determine the differences very effectively. But, if you don't have access to these, a simple heft test can be very helpful. Topaz has a significantly higher specific gravity than quartz, and so a piece of topaz should feel heavier when weighed in your hand compared to a similarly sized piece of quartz.

Crystals for Clearing Mental Clutter: The first step to discovering your life’s purpose is to clear mental clutter. So often we find it hard to focus inward because we are stressed and distracted. Working with crystals like Selenite and Peridot to clear out mental clutter and stagnant energy helps us to create a clean slate in our journey of soul discovery. Try placing these crystals on your temples (if you’re lucky enough to have 2). Or, set it directly on your Third Eye Chakra. Leave the stones in place until you feel calm and centered and most of your mind chatter has stopped. It’s normal to have a few random thoughts pop in and out of your mind, so the aim here is more free space and quiet, not complete silence. We’re aiming for improvement, not perfection.

Is there such a thing as black amethyst?
@gems
@gems 3 года назад
Amethyst is the purple form of quartz, so "black amethyst" would essentially be a black quartz like the morion or smoky quartz we featured in the video. Important to note, even though it can be referred to as "green amethyst", that's not the official name of prasiolite. The only official form of amethyst is purple.
