Loved this! It also reminded me of my own parents' very very similar financial journey. They both grew up quite poor but happy in their lives and it taught them to be frugal. They moved at the start of their marriage just the way you both did, with very little savings in their account and a very similar situation, where my mom was a stay-at-home mom for a while. She started developing her career and the exact same thing that TRID said is what I talked to my dad about when I was around 15. He started talking to me about financial security and freedom and how they used to be extremely careful with what they spent. He also talked to me about how the narrative of others should never influence my own personal needs and desires; everyone has their own story on Instagram and whatever, and this competition is shallow and not worth it. Now, even though they are still not excessive spenders by any means, when there's something they really want to do and spend on, they will do it without having to think or worry. Their good habits have rubbed off on me too, as I never thought we were well off as a kid so I grew up quite similarly.

After listening to this podcast, my perspective on parenting has completely shifted. With our 10 and 11-year-olds, we've realized we didn't establish any rules regarding their electronics. However, this discussion has made me recognize the importance of setting boundaries, and I'm encouraged to know that it's never too late to make positive changes in our parenting approach.

I am very grateful to two older ladies who took me under their wings when I became a stay at home mom. I had always had a job from 16 to 24. Spending “my husband’s money” was hard but they made me see it was mine too and I was contributing in a different way now. I’m glad you shed light on this topic! As always, I love to listen to the two of you interacting together and I love your laugh Sheena!

I like it when the wisdom and the jokes flow in the same video/podcast. Keep doing both please. What I don't know is what's an easy access sweater? Loved this one Sheena stunningly beautiful as usual and Trid (who I was told off in last weeks comments for calling him Trid) was both wise and funny. I wonder what I will get berated for in this comment. Luv ya. ❤❤❤

It's so true, there is no set way of doing things. What works for one family will look different than what works for the next. And it can change and evolve over time. When the pandemic hit, my husband was laid off. But I was (thankfully) able to start working from home. At that time, he picked up more of the chores around the house and taking care of our daughter so I could get my work done. Now, my husband and I both work full time and earn around the same amount. However, I (still) work from home and my hours are more flexible, so I spend more time taking care of the home and our (now two) daughters. He does help when he is home, so it's definitely still shared responsibilities. But I end up doing more around our home because I'm here more. As our children get older, I'm sure the responsibilities will shift once more. I love our team. ❤

Do you wish you had had a conversation with TRID earlier in your relationship and would that have been helpful to your thoughts on your value? I think it’s beautiful that you share this and how you felt, evolved & how it wasn’t about him putting any of this on you. The purity and honesty is lovely. You two are so inspiring.

I love these deep conversations with humor mixed in. It makes me think about how I look at $, how my husband and I are both very content with our humble home, paid off vehicles & jobs. We aren’t looking to buy bigger or better. We have separate accounts & each pay into our home & have no credit cards. We both worked so hard and so long, both had failed first marriages and came into our marriage with very little and just enjoy that we were able to buy a home in an area we both love, neither of us enjoy traveling unless it’s a road trip, usually locally. We genuinely enjoy our humble life after our children have moved away and enjoy our grandchildren and weekends off together. I’m grateful and we remind each other often, how blessed we are together. He’s truly my best friend and I’m his. I pray everyone finds that. It took us into our 50’s but yet, we are still grateful.

Great conversation about lessons that are better to learn early vs. late - one of my all-time favorite songs is "The Hungry Years" by Neil Sedaka about a couple that chases the gold ring and when they finally get it, they look around and see what they have lost and what that gold ring really cost them and at that moment all they want is to go back to the beginning - to the Hungry Years, ending this rant with a quote by Epicurus "do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not, remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for"
