I love your videos! I watched this before submitting my UCSD application because they asked me to rate the colleges for if I get in and I knew NOTHING about them. This really helped me choose!
I'm going to be a freshman in Marshall next year, and I have been so nervous about college. Your videos have been helping so much to ease my nerves so thank you!
Rachel, you are becoming our source for information on UCSD. This is not worth a whole video, but we don't understand something about the academic schedule. For example, Fall Quarter begins on September 24, 2018, but instruction begins on September 27. What happens for those three days? More importantly, next year spring break looks like it is only three days, but that can't be. Can you explain that for us? Thank you for the great videos and information.
Ahhh, I'm not 100% sure, but I just checked the calendar, and September 24th is the Monday of that week, so I assume that just means that that's the beginning of Week 0/1, even though instruction doesn't begin until the 27th. For freshmen, you'll probably move in that Sunday (the 23rd), but don't worry about it--you'll receive more information later on about that! In regards to spring break, if you look at the calendar, you'll see that spring quarter begins on March 27th, but instruction doesn't begin until Monday, April 1st. And honestly, don't worry about the "quarter begins" dates; they don't really mean a lot. Hope that helps!
I honestly got sad that i didnt get into ucsb my dream or ucberkley but now looking at how i got accepted at ucsd for international business and accepted at my first choice for John Muir has me really thinking that im meant to be at UCSD ❤❤❤
Hi, I know your comment is from years ago but I was wondering if you would be willing to help me. I want to go to UCSD for IB and after this video, Muir is my first choice. Hopefully you can give me some advice and help me with things specific to this major.
@@monicaarosemena9158 hello! I actually did a 180 and went to UC Davis for managerial economics! And now I’m a 3rd year anthropology and communications major, but I actually has no prior experience with the major. However, I wish you luck on your academic journey to higher education!
I signed a contract with Death when I randomly put ERC on the top of my list. Like I’m a decent writer and so far I managed to get an A- for MMW 11 but I don’t wanna do two or more more quarters of this online. I really wish I watched this video earlier
today i found out i was accepted!!! i remember watching this video when i first applied so came back to rewatch--at first when i read my letter and googled muir, i was like why's it so ugly?? so i'm glad to know it's actually one of the favorites!!
Hi friends! I'm starting to get a lot more questions about Seventh College, so just wanted to hop on here to say that when I filmed this video, I had no idea that Seventh College was going to exist...so I made a whole separate video about what we know about Seventh College right now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rw25ai0PRHI.html Hope it's helpful, and thanks for watching!
Hi, i'm a french student in aerospace engineering and my school offers the possibility to spend a semester at UCSD but it is UCSD extension. I really would like to go but i do not know the differences between the two, is it the same classes, reputation and level ? Or is UCSD extension very different from the "classic" UCSD ? If you or anybody inside the school would mind helping me, that would be very nice thanks. I have been trying to gather some information on the internet but i didn't find much !
@@lesaviez-vous1459 Hello, sorry this comment is so late! UCSD extension, to my understanding, is not the same as UCSD - for the regular UCSD student, extension classes are ones that you can take to acquire new skills, but they don't necessarily count towards your degree. I don't know that much about your program or what it would be like, but that's the most info I can offer as of right now.
I'm applying to UCSD majoring in Biochemistry. Could you recommend to me which college to go to? I want to pick a college that emphasizes its STEM education and less writing as possible. Many thanks in advance!
I’m a freshmen in Marshall and I’ve been coming out to some of the lighthouse events this quarter😁 and omg this was posted when barry was a 2nd year and Abraham was still a student! So cool watching this video knowing that I view Barry as a senior and Abraham as an alum.
I got into sixth for human bio!!! Thank you so much for this video, I watched it before I applied and it really helped me rank them, and watching it now makes me so excited to be in sixth!! I usually hate writing but I love film as a subject so I’m super down to take that writing sequence!! Thanks again!!!
This was so helpful!! Wish i found it before I finished my application, but I just got into Sixth! Hearing from a student rather than the website was really useful
Hey Rachel! I love your vids! I was just accepted at UCSD in ERC! And I am just wondering what it is like to major in STEM in ERC? I am still deciding my college choice.
I'm coming to UCSD next year and I'll be in Eleanor Roosevelt College! Lowkey scared for MMW, I've heard some horror stories about it :// I know you're not in ERC but any tips on how to survive from friends you may know? Love your vids!
hi! i'm in erc rn and mmw is ... difficult lol. as long as you really try and set aside time for your assignments/essays you'll be fine! from a stem major, the biggest problem for me is it's tempting to half-ass this class because it's so different from your other classes and much of what you learn isn't really applicable to anything else other than MMW ///:
oh no. i'm a transfer theater major and i listed muir as 1 and revelle as 2 not knowing that revelle is stem focused + doesn't accept IGETC. really scared i'll end up there instead of muir. cross your fingers for me, folks
I got into Revelle as a transfer and it was my last option! I wonder if one can transfer out to a different college! Calculus, chem, physics... not fun for a Sociology major.
It's extremely rare to transfer colleges, mostly because it's super hard to do so! There are a lot of requirements, but according to the stuff I just read (lol) you have to prove that you can graduate at least two quarters earlier, and they only accept requests during winter and spring quarter. Transfers have different general education requirements than freshmen, though, so I'd weigh that balance before deciding to go through the process. Hope this helps!
Muir is great! Really easy GEs, located at the center of campus - you shouldn't be too affected by it, because I'm pretty sure most transfers live in the Village, but it's a cool college to be in :) And yay, another lit major! #itslit :)
What colleges would you recommend for transfer students? I got my IGETC certification from a community college so I won't have to take as many GE classes. I am pre vet so biology would be my major. I've already finished gen chem, organic chem, calculus, physics, some bio classes and all that good stuff.
Rachel A. Seo Thank you for the response. From what I’ve heard everyone want to get into Muir haha. My transfer admission guarantee just got approved for UC Davis though so I’ll probably end up their anyways since it’s my first choice
So I’m still a sophomore in highschool but I’m planning on taking middle college for my junior and senior year. I’m planning on getting enough credits to graduate highschool with my associates, and coming to UCSD for my bachelors. Since I would already be finished with my associates, then would it really matter on which college I got into? I’m on the pre-dentistry mindset right now, so I’ll most likely choose to major in Biology.
Your college doesn't matter in terms of major :) Also, a lot of people at UCSD come in with a ton of AP credits, so you'll probably meet a lot of people in the same boat!
Thanks for all the info. I got accepted for Internation business as a transfer. I also got in Muir college. Just waiting to see the financial aid haha also have the option of cal poly pomona for finance. Do you if its possible to minor in muir ? I wanted to minor in accouting.
Yeah, every college has the same minors, I believe (although some colleges have minors that others don't). Pretty sure you're in the clear for accounting, though :)
Hey, I just got accepted into Revelle as an EE major and honestly writing is not something I'm married to. But I'm also interested in learning about social sciences and such. Do you know if the writing is just super strict and rigourous to a point like you just wanna drop out hahahha?
Hi, I know you wrote this comment over a year ago 😅 but how's revelle? (If you went there) I just got admitted there recently for mechanical engineering :)
@@emin9656 Hey! First, Congratulations!! Second, ummm I think Revelle is a decent college and I don't have anything against it except for the HUM classes OMGGGG hahaha. I just got through HUM 1 and it was bad, unenjoyable, but doable. I think it was just very painful for me personally because I'm really not a fan of writing. There's a lot of reading. But I think if you keep up with the reading, pay attention to lectures, you'll be partly fine for the tests that contain short answers. But for the essays, you can't really bs through them. I think they grade pretty hard and depending on the TA you get (you can't choose), you might or might not learn about how to write. So I guess you'll be fine if you know what you're doing when you write essays. But in conclusion, everything is fine about Revelle (food and dorms are all decent I don't mind), but just keep the HUM classes in mind hahaha. Lmk if you have more questions.
@@benjiaaazhang9249 Hi! I also got into revelle as a human biology major and how’s the overall environment over there? Did you find yourself meeting and getting along with fellow dorm mates easily? Also, I did hear about revelle’s HUM courses and i’m freaked out, haha
@@burntsquash Oohh cool! Yea the environment is pretty nice to me. I was lucky to get pretty good suitemates that I got along with, but I do have friends who have less than ideal suitemates hahhha. But each floor will have a RA who's responsible and who can help with any conflicts. However, you can choose your roommates who live in the same "bedroom" as you in a suite.
I am an incoming student and I got into Sixth College. Have you taken CAT 125 yet? Who is your CAT 125 professor if you've taken that class before or taking it right now?
I answered this comment already! But in case you didn't see the other one - I'm taking it right now! I really like it's because it's p easy and they help you with some professional writing and public speaking skills :) I think the course is spearheaded by one professor and split into sections by TA, so it's pretty much the same experience regardless of who's teaching you
I got in! CS, Earl Warren. Is that a good college? I'm international so I don't know much about the campus. Thank you for the informative video. Hope to see you on campus this Septemeber! :) PS - I like how you tagged socially dead as a keyword 😂
Please don't forget to mention that UCSD is known for University of California Socially Dead!!! I am a UCSD student and it is so dead! No social life. Good luck!
It's a common thing that people are scared of coming into UCSD, but in my opinion it's not that hard to work against the stereotype. There are a *lot* of people/orgs/groups; you just have to make your social life a priority :) I've personally made the best friends I've ever made at UCSD!
I'm transferring in next fall into Sixth. Analogous to your reviews, other reviews I've read also mentioned the environment helping the community become closer. I'm really looking forward to living there, thanks for your awesome reviews!
Sorry this is so late! Lit/writing has more of an emphasis on writing and writing workshops. I'm not 100% sure the requirements for lit in English, but I think you're probably required to take more classes about English literature!
