I remember TAP had the option to replace some of its A321LR orders with A321XLR, as the company's strategy shifted aggressively towards the "fly smaller, fly further" motto. The COVID-19 pandemic put a nail in the coffin of the airline and, despite its continued operation, it has been running in very fragile stilts, having been privatised, nationalised and now privatised again in less than 10 years.
No wonder with the fraud schemes they are running, the I dont know how many BRAND NEW BMW ELECTRIC CARS while being on one of the worst economical crisis sounds nice, isnt it?
I got the opportunity to fly in an A321LR neo out of Newark to Lisbon after being rescheduled from a United 787 after missing my United flight due to weather back in June. And I have to say, the lie flat seat was comfortable. Of course, i am still disappointed that i didnt get to experience it on a 787 product, but the cabin was nice nonetheless because TAP seem to have placed emphasis on its seat class that other comparable airlines I have seen reviews of seem to miss. My only complain its that there werent any partitions between seats for added privacy but I was able to get over it. As for the aircraft, I found the reduced noise to be surprising. Overall, TAP has a nice product with this aircraft type flying this type of medium-long haul route that any other airline may assign A330s or A350s to operate.
The A330neo were initially A350 orders, Tap was supposed to be first to fly A350 with SIA I believe. But the previous CEO, Neelman (current CEO of Jet Blue, I believe), exchange those orders into A330neo and a few more A320 (the LR I believe). Not sure if it was the best move, but now is done. Also TAP should be put on sale soon and probably bought by Lufthansa group or IAG (I hope to be the first as it's already part of Star Alliance and it completes better the group, with flights to África and South America) + (if bought by IAG it will just divert many routes to Madrid as the airport there still have plenty of vacants).
Of course it was the best move my man, you know why? Because the guy got DOZENS OF MILLIONS for not getting those 350 and selling them at a much higher price. Tap is a well rounded fraud scheme.
Completely agree about the sale part! Lufthansa is just the better option! About the A350s, and having flown TAP some 7 times in my life, I believe the the move to replace the A350 was a good one. TAP does not have a big market to deploy it's A350 that the A330 could not get. And if getting rid of the A350s means more airplanes, bring the more airplanes!
@@nigelmarvin1387 nope, because of existing union agreements. Portugalia pilots and cabin crew are paid much less, if TAP would incorporate them into main operation it would have to pay the same as the other TAP crew, so that would increase cost a lot. Shady practices, but unfortunately fairly standard in the aviation world.
My only flight with TAP was a short 2hr flight...LHR to LIS on an A320-200 in 2015. It was a good experience overall for the short international route (at the time) within the EU.
I´m from Portugal and I fly a lot of times with TAP. The longest flight I took was from Lisbon to New York and I loved the new plane. Very silent and a good option in my opinion!
@@alexisramon4872 I also read very bad comments but for me, that already flow more than 20 times with TAP, the bad thing is that they are almost every time late, but the planes they use are good and news, the food is also good and the price is competitive compare to other airlines
I have had the pleasure of flying with them for 26 years, flown in all the current models and can tell you that the new A330neo seats are miles better than the A340 they used to operate
Flown in ALL their aircraft going back to as far back as the early 60's .... Caravelle - 727, 707, L-1011 Tristar and Im told by my grandfather a constellation in '63
On at least 3 occasions I've flown on the TAP A321LR. Every single time the WiFi hasn't worked, meaning they're deliberately keeping the system turned off, or I've been extremely unlucky.
How does an airline route network work? Does an aircraft fly from hub to one destination all the time or does it fly from hub to 1st 2nd and 3rd destination before flying back to hub or does it fly from hub to 1st destination and back to hub before flying to 2nd destination?
TAP Portugal could reconfigure their A321-200 Neo LR & A321-200 cabin to 20 Business & 163 Economy class e.i. total 183 seats . . . same can be said about their fleet of A320-200 Neo as well . . . infact TAP Portugal should operate their legacy A320-200 fleet in a single class 142 - 155 layout . . . based on average occupancy rate & realistic cost per mile per seat . . .
I would guess that the A319neo would be better for TAP since it should require minimal pilot training. The A220 is a completely different plane. Basically, TAP now only needs two types of pilots, narrow body A320 series pilots and wide body A330 pilots.
