I have the M16 R1 Ryzen 7945hx with Rtx 4090 and the AW3423DWF, its awesome, I hope we get a QD OLED 34 inch 240hz, the rtx 4090 laptop with the ryzen 9 can push over 200 fps in warzone@Tech

Yeah 👍 you finally help find the answer to my question 🙋‍♂️. So apparently you can run the laptop from the monitor with the dell app so i can have my laptop give that desktop experience. It took a while to figure it out many people at stores just buy all of that stuff to see if it works. So I am supposed to spend like $2-$3,900 to see if it would work sounds crazy. So I am looking at the 1440p 27 inch Alienware monitor and the 510k with the 610m then the headset that you got. And then pair it with my m15r3 then upgrade that later. What do you think ?

Great setup and video David thanks! I love that oled monitor, but I would find the size a little small at this stage for my sim racing rig. The immersion from a 49 inch monitor is fantastic, but overkill outside sim racing. I used to have the original Alienware M18 with 680m in sli, a fantastic laptop for its day with a really useful hdmi in port for the display!

my m15 r5 is still alive , as they should 😈 I will be performing upcoming maintenance(repaste,copper shims,new ssd,new wifi card) and cleaning fans.

A very aesthetically pleasing gaming PC setup. Alienware are still top of the heap for OLED gaming monitors, but they are just a bit shy of that with their keyboards and mice. The new PRO 75% keyboard is really promising though.

Yeah, I typically bout the 920k just before they launched it 😂 may order one soon to test anyway. The pro mouse is a big step up in usability over previous Alienware mice so hoping the keyboard is too

Haha yeah we had a long couple of days as i need to take a couple days off 😂 the lights are govee sconces, they are wall mountable but also look great on the back of the desk and you can customise the rgb to fit your setup

I was about to order the m18r1 in Japan and have a complete alienware setup. Unfortunately it wont take my credit card. The only one that went through was the AW headset and my wife loves it much that she is actually using it for work several times a day.

Nice setup, I am also setting up an all Alienware setup but for now I have Alienware M15 R7 which I got in 2022 and Aw920H which I got a month ago. I will be getting the Aw620M instead of the AW720M cos I love my RGB compared to being plain. Going for Aw920k for keyboard and aw3423dwf for monitor.

This is the route I went, but I got the Samsung G7 600R instead of the AW3423dwf but only mainly because I ordered it when I ordered a Samsung Book Pro 3. However, that took months and months and had no movement so I cancelled and ordered the X17 R2. That cooked itself inside of two weeks, so then Dell replaced it with the M18 R1 with a 4090. I'm happy. The 620M is nice, except I wish it didn't have the funky black piece on the back. I am not a fan of the 920K either. I like short throw keyboards, these keys have a ton of travel. Although they are still pretty sensitive. The Wireless and RGB is extremely nice.

thank you for using the afterburner OSD efficiently. temp, power, usage and FPS. yes. the only thing I would recommend is the graph that displays the response time for the FPS. (pick "text,graph" option in the framerate setting). the reason is that stable FPS with bad response times still feel like stuttering (for benchmarking and such)

@@MashITTech it is very minimalistic. try it for yourself, at least. ever since I had an overheating fault with my old laptop I always keep it on, similar setup as yours the only difference is that I have the size set to "small" from Riva Tuner (and the graph)

@@MashITTech if you move the OSD slightly to the left (instead of centered) you'll find that most games do not use that area of the screen for anything :)

I will give that a try but I also like to try and keep centred as we often compare laptops and it is great to be able to put the footage side by side and see all the stats 😀

im currently shopping around for a new gaming laptop to replace my msi GT73VR from 8 years ago. so far this alienware is in top 3 contenders espcially given the price compared to other models im looking at which include the msi titan 78hx (as i like the chasis design and sticking to what i know) or a Raider GE78. the raider comes up to around 3k mark whilst the titan starts at 4.5k gbp over on ocuk and scan and which honestly is a heck of a alot for a laptop. id love to hear your input for "best bang for buck" in the current laptop market as I see your reviewing alienware and razer often as to compared to gigabyte, asus, msi etc. Kind wishes Alucard

Thanks for all your great videos. I’m an Apple guy usually but was seriously thinking of getting this laptop. The 300 nit brightness has put me off though. What’s it like in person?

Surprisingly because of the large 18" screen it feels a lot brighter than 300nit. Both Gary and I were really surprised when we measured it. 300nit is fine for moderately lit homes and offices and has been the standard for years. It is only an issue if you plan to use it in a very bright environment such as outside or a sun room where it can become inadequate. But with much brighter panel options on the market, I can't for the life of me understand why Dell didn't use a 500+ nit screen like Asus or Razer

Issues arise only when working with light directly against the panel. Otherwise, especially indoor, I've never noticed a lack of brightness. I have m18 R1

Just ordered a m18 r2 on dells website with these specs. 14th Gen Intel Core"i7 14700HX Windows 11 Home NVIDIAR GeForce RTXTM 4070, 8 GB GDDR6 16 GB DDR5 Will this be good enough to run a quest 3? Both should arrive in my mail in 2 days.

Hi Dave, can the m18 r2 run any games at 4k 144hz or even 60? If yes is it the 4080 or 4090 that does it? I have a 4k monitor but now learnt that you need to have a gpu That can push 4k games :( so I'm wondering if it's useless to get an m18 at the cost when I can simply get a ps5 which does 4k and just get a cheaper productivity laptop

hey mate, have you tried using frame generation? I would have thought with the right mix of settings and frame generation you should be able to hit 4k over 100fps with a 4090. personally I don't game at 4k but when I get a chance I will plug the m18 to my 4k 144hz monitor and see what I can do

Hey, I will get my r2 in a couple of days. I m also looking for a Aw external monitor, but i m more keen to go on AW2725DF 360hz oled in 2k. Even if I took the rtx 4090 unit, I think it will be more adapted to play Fps game and games in general on a 2k native display than a 4k screen. Btw do you plan to review the AW2725DF one of those days ? Ah and I have a question : Even if it's not a G-sync certified monior, just AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro + VESA would it be possible to link it like you did to get the max fps from the card. Cheers

Yeah, I was also tempted to get the 2725 as its a better fir for the laptop but I Am a sucker for ultra wide. And in answer to your question if you use the mini DP to DP you will have full performance to the monitor and will be able to enable G-sync

I know Alienware hasn’t produced the best laptops the last years, with a few exceptions maybe, but I have always loved their aesthetics. As an owner of a Legion 5 4800h and RTX 2060, I am due for an upgrade. I wanted to build a desktop PC, but with my frequent travels between 2 homes and general, I would opt for an 18 inch laptop. I wish they had the m 18 r2 in lunar light and with a better screen. Other than that it’s a beautiful and good laptop. My other choice are the legion 7s, where I must say the 2022 model is probably my favorite. The last 2 gens I feel like Lenovo downgraded them.

I know the brightness is only 300ish nits but I have to be honest as the screen is so large it does feel brighter and both gary and I thought it was 400! I have had no problems with the brightness even using in pretty bright rooms but I am sure it would be no good for outside but who is taking an m18 to play games in the garden 😂 Though with that in mind I still think Dell should have given us the 500 nit screen like on the blade 18, its not like this is a bargain basement laptop

If you game, watch a lot of content or do 3d work get the oled, your eyes will thank you. If you spend a lot of time reading/writing text consider the 32" OLED version and if you use lots of real estate then get the 38". I had the 38" and loved it but Gary stole it as he does most of the editing. I console myself for by doing all our games testing on this OLED 😂

The Alienware AW 920h sounds good but falls apart after a couple of months. The earcups break off! Save your money and buy the Logitech G Pro X headset.

oh wow, that is sad to hear! I had a Logitech headset a while ago g733 or something and they were the creakiest plastic headphones I have ever bought and I gave them away! haven't touched Logitech since but maybe I should give the G Pro a go?

Hi I am looking at buying a AW M18R2 with a RTX 4080 GPU and 14th Gen Intel® Core™i9 14900HX CPU. I also want to run it with a Ultragear 4K 27" 4K monitor which has a 3840x2160 and 144Hz refresh rate panel. Will the 4080 cope with the monitor. Any help would be most appreciated. 60fps is good for me as I will be playing ETS2/ATS.

I got mine yesterday with a 4080 and 32gb ram with I9 14900hx and I get around 70 fps average on cyberpunk with max settings ultra ray tracing and on 4k all other games I run on 4k was all above 100fps

cool) i also want such a setup from alienware devices in 2025) now i also have the same arrangement - 55 inch LG OLED TV straight ahead, MSI laptop on the right, mouse + keyboard ))) you have a razer chair) why? alienware has their own chairs)))) You can't keep the laptop on the table like that. I would advise you to put the laptop on a stand so that there is space at the bottom for air intake is 10-15 centimeters.

hey mate. how do you find using the 55"? I tried before and I couldn't get used to gaming so close to it. Alienware don't sell the Alienware chairs in the UK, they dont like us here sadly. We also didn't get the x14r2 and we still haven't got the new x16 and m16 here. Makes my life as a reviewer very difficult. Lastly I do have a laptop stand but I wanted to make the point that Alienware dont make a stand. I know they watch my videos so hope they take the hint 😀

Sick set up Dave love Alienware M18 laptops although until they make a better brightness nit and quality screen with possibly a higher refresh rate I don’t think I’ll be purchasing one going forward although for the Razer Blade 18 2024 model this year what are your thoughts on this ? It’s an all around excellent package great performance and it comes with a thunderbolt 5 port for future proofing as well as a gorgeous IPS high brightness 4k 165hz screen and I think I’ll be purchasing this instead.

P.S you get the best of both worlds with thunderbolt 5 with the integrated 4k 165hz IPS screen you can add a external monitor to that port being mini LED or OLED and a resolution and refresh rate up to 4k 240hz or 8k 120hz

Well you know how much I loved the 2023 Blade 18 and with a 4k screen it will be even better. Thunderbolt 5 will be useful but I can't see many people needing it yet but my only concern is going to be the price I can see this costing 5K easily :(

@@MashITTech thank you for your reply Dave perhaps about the high price tag although around 5k seems worth it for all the features this year the Blade 18 is offering compared to the likes of £4000 for the Asus Rog Strix Scar 18’ which doesn’t offer a premium built laptop all around it has a 2.5k resolution and it doesn’t have a good webcam or windows hello and it’s lacking a excellent port selection I think this is a bit overpriced in my opinion for the Scar compared to competitors.

yeah, I must admit the blade 18 is my pick of all the 18" laptops and I still use my 2023 daily but the price is a killer to a lot of people

@@MashITTech I also love the fact the Blade 18 comes in an all white mercury version which looks a lot better business wise and just overall looks great with the RGB per key keyboard too in the dark. If the Alienware can offer this type of premium display and port features next year it’ll be a competitor for sure always behind in the laptop display department.

Can't wait to get this laptop! Unfortunately, it seems like Best Buy only has plans for a model with a 4070 in it. I mean, I suppose that's fine being that the last Alienware I had, came with a 3070 in it. The Asus Rog Strix G18 i tried had a 4080 but i barely got to use it before it gave me issues. I'm really excited for the M18 R2 as I've always loved Alienware products and my mouse & headset are both Alienware.

the 4070 isn't a bad card but this massive laptop really needs a 4080 😀 are you sure they won't be adding more units later? we only had 4060 and 4070 in the UK for the first two weeks then they added the more powerful cards

@@MashITTech Doesn't look like it, reason I think this, is they're still pushing the all-AMD R1 and the AMD+RTX 4070 R1 a lot. They have more M16 R2 models but i only saw this model for the M18 R2. However! with all my store credit I had, with a protection plan, the laptop only cost me $480 out of pocket! thought that was a pretty solid deal, plus i've got a 60 day return window, AND 3 years accidental damage/defects protection. Will have the unit in my possession on Wednesday.

The 4070 is fine as far as a gaming laptop goes. The price point starts to get too high for what you’re really getting. Nit picking over fps instead of worrying how to keep that unit somewhat cool is what I’m more worried about. It plays every game super smooth and only thing I’ve noticed is how fast it heats up

@@Jaywarde82 Yeah it does get rather warm. I was told by Alienware that it can withstand up to 101 degrees celsius, but i'm kinda like ehhh :/ According to AWCC it's never hit that high. I've kept the profile on balanced mode but we'll see how it goes....temp from 'touch' wise, the Asus RoG Strix G18 that i had issues with did appear to run 'cooler' but that also had a 4080 and not a 4070 in it. I got a 3 yr warranty/protection plan on this unit so i'm hoping i'll be okay going forward.

@@smokeyarcadeyea I hear ya, I was gonna seek out a unit with more vram but once I thought about, I told myself that I primarily game on my ps5 and let it take the bumps. I’m going to be using this one for a lot more than just gaming. Plus I play StarCraft 2 more than anything on pc and it plays it on ultra smooth as can be. I play madden a lot on my console.

Hi David! I see that you have been actively using Alienware laptops for several years, and I wanted to ask if you have noticed a deterioration in thermal performance? I clean my laptop regularly, but I don't change the metal and paste on the CPU and GPU, because of the difficulty of disassembling their models. In a little more than a year, the temperature on the GPU rose from 76 to 84-86 degrees with 30w less consumption (X17/3070ti). I am thinking of turning to the service of professionals. I will be grateful if you share your observations!

You will always get some degradation over time but yours does seem excessive and my area 51m and x17r2 held up really well until I recently got rid of them to fund more purchases. It is a shame Dell dont make them easier to repaste :(
