They did not need that flashback cause it's even more stupid than what I imagine smh. Honestly, he could have gotten off the bus if he had not stopped to give that final message

Jabari not becoming a series regular after this is so weird

I just realized Billy spent his final birthday being roasted by everybody 😭

Coach Baker’s number 1 priority was getting Jabari off that bus alive. He knew if he started running off it right after Jabari got off, he was still going to die. I think he knew once he got on that bus, he probably wouldn’t make it out, but it would be worth it to him if he saved Jabari. You can hear how scared Coach was, but he did not allow that fear to overtake him. What amazing acting from the actor who plays Jabari. Survivor’s Guilt and PTSD are real things in this world, and he portrayed it beautifully. Even though Laura couldn’t hold this against him, I’m glad she seemed to forgive him in this moment. It wasn’t his fault, and there was nothing he could have done. RIP Coach Baker. Even though he’s a fictional character, I will always see him as my own coach too.

Based on these comments, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who found this scene weird, because I was beginning to think I was slow. This scene made it seem like he had time to get off the bus but chose not to.

What’s even worse about this scene is, why did it take them so long to realize Jabari wasn’t there? It was daylight when the accident happened. It was night when they realized he wasn’t there. Nobody thought to do a headcount🤦🏾‍♂️

*Bus is about to fall off of a cliff* Billy: "Four score and seven years ago..."

Even in his final moments Billy was still Billy, happy, caring, loving, considerate, etc

They would have been better off saying he was whisked away by a unicorn that shits skittles

Honestly if I was Jabari I probably would've grabbed Billy without saying a word because there was NO time to waste talking, if I even THINK there's a chance to save someone's life, you're DAMN right that's what I'm gonna do, man if I was in Jabari's shoes that would be SO hard to take, to lose your coach and father figure who got you on the right path like that, I would DEFINITELY be messed up for a WHILE, to see that smile one last time and hear his last words my goodness, I couldn't hold it together during this scene😭😭😢😢

He didn’t even tried. But ether way he would have not made it. He probably didn’t follow Jabari because if he followed he would tried to help coach and it would’ve put Jabari’s life at risk and so he stayed behind so jabari wouldn’t be able to reach him. Ether way I’m guessing one of them would’ve died. Like he said , his football team are like his kids and he would’ve protect his kids anyway, his football kids and his family kids.

Honestly, my biggest issue with this scene isn’t even Billy’s refusal to run off the bus. Okay, sure, he should’ve at least tried, but at the same time, I get that he was barely balancing and the bus was tipping so he most likely would’ve fallen anyways. But it was still worth a try. My issue is everything else. For one, how did it take so long to notice Jabari was missing?? They were outside the bus in broad daylight, and during this scene it’s pitch black outside. It must’ve been at least three hours if not more. In that time, they didn’t do a head count? None of his teammates asked, “hey where’s Jabari?”, while they were sitting there talking as if nothing happened? Hell, Grace and Jordan made it to the scene and Asher managed to drive home before Billy noticed Jabari was missing. In fact, the rest of the football team didn’t stand outside the bus to help drag out a potentially injured Jabari? They seem like trash teammates. Just sat around and chatted. For another, why was the bus in the mountains in the first place? A completely secluded road that no one drove on for hours as well? Isn’t there a more direct route to go from Beverly to Crenshaw or wherever? One with more traffic, and not on a mountain with a bus full of people? It seems like such a weird way to kill Billy off when there were millions of other ways to do it. And that’s my main point: all of these choices were completely avoidable. The writers almost had to go out of their way to make this scene so poorly written. Why did they make so much time pass between when the bus crashed and they noticed Jabari was missing? Why couldn’t they have just had it all happen at night? It almost feels intentionally botched. I guess for some positives on the scene: the acting was great as is usual for All American, and Billy is portrayed nicely here. Coaching and encouraging his player off the bus, saying “I’m right behind you” when he’s obviously not just to make Jabari feel better, and sacrificing himself with no hesitation for a student.

Rip 🪦 billy baker man. It’s not even real but I cried all night even into the morning.

I felt like it was a weird scene that Billy made no attempt to get out of the bus. Seemed like he committed suicide there. We knew they needed to kill off Billy with Taye Diggs leaving the show, but this was just a weird sequence.

After watching it, the scene is not as bad as people making it to be. The bus was literally rocking he didn’t have no time to run to the front of that bus before it fell off the cliff. I’m thinking this man sat giving a message for a min it wasn’t even seconds

it really did look like he could have gotten out, which confused me, but I'm assuming he knew that if he ran toward the exit, it would fall regardless. I think he was farther from the exit than it seemed like he was.

My honest opinion on this scene I feel like the writing could of been better, yes he was concussed & prolly was in the heat of the moment saving Jabari but to me it felt like billy wanted to die or knew he was but it’s just don’t make any sense cause how all that time pass & y’all all just notice he was missing from the bunch out of all things they decided to kill billy from the series cause he was done with all American so I can tell they rush that & the real billy baker didn’t even die irl this scene was just so mid

All it would have taken was for them to get a grip on the back of that bus and give coach baker even a few extra seconds to get off to keep it from fall as quickly as it did. Because Coach Baker taught them better than that!! This would have been a perfect, team moment, because just as he risked his life to make sure that everyone was okay. They could have done something besides watch him die. All that to say, they could have kept this whole scene. For this to be such a great series and amazing writing that sucked!!
