New for 2024 is a massive Schwarzkopf multi looper relocated from Mexico City after a horrible accident. The ride was refurbished and given new trains, opening 3 years later than planned. Despite Indiana Beach's best efforts, the ride is still not in great shape, and that became very apparent very fast. Let's dive into the problems with All American Triple Loop and what would make it better.

its almost comical that this coaster had an infamous deadly accident on it, and then when choosing new trains for it of course they decided to take them from mindbender, which ALSO had one of the most infamous deadly coaster accidents of all time

this is an L comment. . . the Mindbender trains used now are not even close to those in the accident. . They are all now lead cars. . . The overhead restraints are a result of this as well and the main complaint. . .

Indiana Beach didn't do that, it was standing all day in the scorching hot mexico sun, with the track and supports being under more stress due to the ride being ran faster than normal, for years. That's gonna take a toll on any ride. Similar thing happened to Thriller/Texas Tornado when it ran in Six Flags decades ago.

Looks like they are going to need to give it a thorough retrack during the off-season if they don't plan too make it a one year wonder. Why didn't they test it with vibration dummies before opening it up to the public?

I rode Thriller the week it opened in 1986 and a strange feeling in my neck for a week. Not all Schwarzkopf rides are smooth or "healthy" - they were always part of an aggressive fair circuit market that was prone to an unhealthy logic of "outbidding". Just at today's flat rides- who in their right mind could find anything but "torture" in those. But the original triple loop was kind of a sweet spot - super thrilling and thoroghly enjoyable. Too bad they cold not rescue it!

@@-E42- I rode Dreier Loop in its opening year in 1984 (Oktoberfest) and Thriller in 86 (Cranger Kirmes). Dreier was totall smooth with only a lapbar. The first drop was AMAZING! Thriller was a real beast though! I came off it and thought I had just been recruited for a NASA training program. In it´s first year they had just a lap-bar and a leather strip (like you sometimes find on Dodgem cars). But the ride attendents didn´t even advise you to wear it. The real problem with Thriller was the final loop, which was some strange loop/corkscrew hybrid. Your body would just SLAM sideways. They reprofiled this several times and then retrofitted those nasty accordeon restraints. I really think they should try to get therir hands on a regular Schwarzkopf train with shared axels. These coasters are designed to run 5-7 car trains and not those 3-front-car-trains. They have totally different dynamics! I would usually say: get rid of the shoulder bars, but seeing the footage here, I guess it would be quite dangerous if there was just a lapbar. What a mess!

Gerstlauer is actively involved in patching up Olympia Looping (Magnetic brakes, new ride software and PLC etc.), Alpina Bahn (New Trains, new set of brakes, new PLC and more) and Hollenblitz (Currently being worked on by Gerstlauer since it has been shut down by the safety regulator for reasons unknown). Why didn't they go with that option?

Basically, but theres one problem. Mindbender had different trains at the time of its accident, and changed trains shortly after, and All American Triple Loop's trains were Mindbenders redesigned trains, the original Mindbender trains had 4 cars (the very last one was reversed) but after the accident in 86, it had 3 cars with a redesign, and those are the same trains in Indiana Beach today. Kinda weirded out though..

It sounds like of the things you mentioned, getting rid of the shoulder restraints should be the first thing they try. It seems like it would be the easiest modification to make and even if it remains rough on the track, that would solve a good amount of the discomfort, but I haven't ridden it, so I can't say that with certainty

I appreciate your honesty. I'm so used to Schwarzkopf's Shockwave being so smooth that yesterday I didn't hold myself tense during the midride section and bumped my head on the left side of the Silver Bullet car. That ride is only rough in one spot, so you forget about it until you hit it. I'll definitely be cautious of All American Triple Loop if I ever go to Indiana Beach.
@teddym2808

Mike of Canobie Coaster gives it a 7 and I seem to have identical taste to him from his other reviews, so will trust that. He says to sit upright with back as straight as possible against seat and push shoulder pads as low as they will go. He didn't give it "only" a 7 because it's rough, he gave it a 7 because the coaster's intensity is way down from what it was previously, so had it been faster and more intense he would have rated it even higher. When it was Quimera in Mexico he rated it a 10. That had lap bar only 4 car trains though. Indiana Beach bought the train from Mindbender Galaxyland. I don't think it's their fault, I think any issues stem from the train in this case. By the way, you guys haven't ridden rough. Seriously you haven't. I've watched all your coaster videos since your channel first started. If you want to know what ROUGH was, try imagine the long gone HERCULES (old woodie) at Dorney Park as one of the roughest coasters in history, or SOB @ King's Island (Hercules was rougher). One of the most painful steel coasters I rode was Desperado in Nevada. In 1998 it wasn't too bad but in 2005 it was a disaster and you had to brace and protect your kidneys and ride very defensively. Magnum XL 200 is very smooth by comparison. Hercules gave me a prolapsed disc and I was bed bound in the hotel for 7 days after. That's what rough is. My friend had a migraine for 4 days and he's never had an issue on any other ride. He was vomiting and was constantly on meds to relieve it. I was rubbing Bengay into my lower back every two hours and taking anti inflammatory drugs and Vicodin the doctor prescribed, and was very lucky it healed quickly so my body never got "used" to the Vicodin, therefore I was instantly able to stop.. Sure, I was just unlucky for my disc to bulge to begin with, but years later I found out I have early degenerating disc disease and need to be very careful what I rode from then on. Point is, I'd have no qualms trying American Triple Loop when I visit IB again next year. :))

i was at indiana beach for a day and an employee said they didnt open triple until noon-ish, so as soon as noon hit my sister and i went over to triple loop, like two people were in line. we just missed the first rotation so we waited in line. after only one go, the ride ops closed the coaster because of technical issues and said it would probably be about 20 min. we checked back every 30 ish min and the ride was closed literally all day :^

I lived in Alberta and rode Mindbender many times... the operations there were horrendous mostly because of how much time and brute force effort it took to prepare the restraints. Operators rightfully became tired having to wrestle them all day so they moved very slowly. Before it closed they'd be lucky to get 10 trains out in an hour. The restraints are over-designed because of Mindbender's accident in the 1980's. Those are not the original trains - in order to reassure the public new trains were provided with those triple restraints which included the addition of those horrible shoulder restraints. You'll also notice that the trains have double redundant wheel assemblies (each car has 4 sets by itself). This was done because the accident was caused by a wheel assembly falling off (which seems to be a common thing with Schwarzkopf). This made the cars longer and heavier, so the trains were reduced by one car to accommodate the changes.

Indiana Beach is a bucket list park for me. I really hope to get there one day. I was excited that they were putting in a Schwarzkopf coaster. However, I didn't realize it had the accordion restraints. I have only one experience with those and it was on Astroworld's Texas Tornado (currently completely defunct, I think, after being moved around a couple of times after Astroworld's closure). I rode it twice and both times those accordion restraints snapped further down due to the extreme positive G's in the first two loops and I spent the rest of the ride compressed into a very uncomfortable position with the restraints biting into my shoulders. The second time I was even riding defensively trying to prevent it from happening and it still happened, then we spent 20 minutes on the brake run in 100+ degree temps with Houston's humidity waiting for something that was going on with the train in the station. It was agonizing and I almost passed out from the heat and pain. I vowed to never ride a coaster with those restraints again, and if I ever do make it to Indiana Beach, All American Triple Loop will be a hard pass for me unless they've removed those accordion OTSRs.

@drdewott9154
@drdewott9154 15 дней назад
Honestly I think the train might be the issue, not because of the wheel assembly but the train assembly. The old traditional Schwarzkopf trains had the trailing cars hanging off the car preceeding it. That meant the wheels were spaced far apar and allows the cars to twist greatly without issue. Whereas the frankensteined mindbender trains feature several sets of axles close together. And that means the trains might not be able to take the snappy transitions, especially the sharply curved drops very well. Its not like these transitions are unique to Mindbender, lots of other Schwarzkopfs have them whether it be Olympia Looping, Alpina Bahn, Jetline (rip), and Thriller/Zonga (also rip). Plus Ive heard others mention that it was still smoother while in Mexico than at Indiana Beach. So it cant be the trackprofiling. On Mindbender the trains handling of the transitions may not have been an issue since that ride is larger and as such each element is more drawn out, but Triple loop by comparison is much more compact. So I think it might be putting excessive forces onto some of the wheel bogies, which get yanked into the rest of the vehicles. Might also be why the front seats of each are are smoother, since the rear seats are closer to the wheel bogies. I think there are 3 possible solutions for this. 1. Order new trains with the conventional setup, Gerstlauer would likely be willing to do so. 2. Extend the distance between each car in the train by extending the coupler. That way the wheels are spaced further apart, but it might cause additionals stress on said coupler. 3. Modify the trains restraints, namely the over the shoulder accordion so that the rough moments arent handled as badly.

Sounds like you earned your paycheck this session! Thanks for serving as test subjects, so we know to prioritize our (in my case-extremely limited) disposable income elsewhere! At the very least, the Triple Loop isn't beyond redemption, and I hope that Indiana Beach puts in the proper TLC. And if any coaster would ever benefit from shoulder straps over those huge chunks of plastic that they expect riders to wear over their shoulders, the Triple Loop would be it. It would be a pity if it doesn't receive the treatment it needs to live up to its full potential, especially now that Mindbender has since been now Mind-endered.

I feel like the old guy who says, " when I was a kid", but here goes it! When I was younger and riding what remained of the golden age of coasters in the seventies and a bit into the eighties, coasters were rough. It was the thrill. You weren't on a kids ride. It was the roller coaster! I get the over shoulder harness thing, but the comment on here about Hercules being the roughest ever makes me realize that through attrition, coaster riders have been spoiled and don't realize the "sport" of riding any more! If it isn't buttery smooth, folks hate it! Times have changed indeed, but a little pain is the medal you earn for going on the big kids rides! Lol. But when I see reviews on rides like thunder hawk at dorney being extremely rough, I think about it before the trim brakes were added. Not hating on anybody, but expectations have really changed!

I hope it can be made more tolerable. Having ridden Frontier City's Silver Bullet so many times, I can say that there is a violent lateral jolt leading into the loop, but because we only have seatbelts & lap bars, it's no problem at all. Head/neck banging restraints can totally ruin some rides. After the reports of Triple Loop, I honestly don't want to ride it, not even once for the credit. @@crazycreeper399 Yeah, but regardless those bumps in the profiling are undoubtedly going to cause whiplash eventually with some unknowing guest. Vest or not. It definitely needs new trains, which would give better capacity due to less loading time. But still, your main issue is head banging due to rough track profiling. It's also probably hella cheaper. $25-50k per piece of track, same amount for installation etc. Instead of $500k for a new train. Or more, due to being a custom job.

To be fair, the ride is 40 years old: Started out on the German Fair Circuit (84-96), then moved to Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia (97-99), Flamingo Land in England (00-05), La Fiera Chapultepec de Magico in Mexico City (07-19), than sat idle for nearly 5 years. All those times being taken apart/put back together/being transported take a toll on the track. Plus it's using the old trains from Galaxyland's Mindbender. edit: I just like the shot at 0:30 showing houses in the background

Just watched canobie coasters review and apparently there is a certain way to position the restraints so its not as painful and if done that way its a decent ride. Still want to check the ride out. Indiana beach was the biggest suprise on my road trip last year and one of my favorite parks for its atmosphere so its a shame it did not live up to expectations.

This is (was) a traveling coaster. The sections are bolted together and not welded. of course its rough as an SLC. Even while it was traveling during the Barth era, it was kinda rough. For example: Nessi in Hansa-Park germany is smooth as butter compared to Schwur des Kärnan. And Nessi is older then myself. Maybe you could RMC this thing xDD If you convince them to do vertical loopings.

Would be cool to hear your opinion on "Nessie Superrollercoaster" at Germany's Hansa Park. It's a 1980 custom Schwarzkopf Looper that was Germany's first stationary coaster with a vertical loop. They recently refurbished it and gave it a new station, but the trains and track are original.

One thing that wasn't mentioned. It's not uncommon for a once smooth coater to be come rough and uncomfortable when its taken apart and moved. New base points and even the ground it's placed on can change it's charateristics. It's up to the new owner/operator to be aware of this. It's a shame that this one is so uncomfortable. I was stoked to see one of these in the states. I rode this coaster when i was in Hamburg. It was super intense but not uncomfortable. It's still one of the best portable coasters made when it's done right. Hope they can get it sorted out.

Has anyone ridden both Triple Loop and King ? King is a portable Soquet coaster that travels on the french fair circuit. They both have similar layouts, the worst part being that King doesn't even have loops. However, they share the same problem, OTS restraints on a track full of bad profiling and transitions, resulting in serious headbanging. I've only ridden King, and I really hated it despite its potential.

I rode it in the early 2000s at flamingo land as Magnum Force it was alright but at the time they had that they had a Schwarzkopf launch one. I didn’t ride magnum that much but it was alright for what it was. It was easy to tell it’s meant to travel than be a permanent coaster. It used to be a white and red and because of weather here in it always looked dirty. But for the time being simpler back then it was a good coaster probably won’t be that good now but when I was younger it was great.

I just came back from Indiana Beach and rode this 8 times. Seems to vary per ride - front seat seemed to be better but I think the restraint height could be at fault. If they made it 50% softer it would help. The very back seat was brutal! The ride is super intense - that first drop is crazy. Seems like some of the track the train is making a lot of racket - like its fighting the track is that normal? You can sit whereever you like just tell them you want to wait for 1st seat although station is an odd design like its not big enough to queue in line. I did like the intensity of it just hope they can make it smoother. Odd they designed it so you can't raise your arms. If you are claustaphobic this isn't your ride... once in you are trapped inside. I think different custom cars may be the answer also. The guy in blue shirt and glasses was funny though wish other ride operaters were like that. (if he is reading this I was the one that told you they missed out on caling it 'Death Trap' due to the history) :)

As soon as I saw the mindbender trains I knew that was the problem. Those restraints were awful. I loved Mindbender but it wasn’t a comfortable ride at all, or one you could reride over and over. Twice a day if the first ride didn’t give you a gnarly headache lol. I imagine this is significantly worse on a tighter layout. I think it’s worth a discussion that the accordion restraints were a response to Mindbender’s fatal accident, and with Wuimeras history, maybe the general though process about the excess restraints was appearance of safety? Ironically, I can see that being the source of an injury down the line.

@@staringcorgi6475 That's horrible. Unfortunately even with anti-rollbacks there was still an accident on the Wildcat coaster in Tulsa, OK because the park maintenance had not been properly trained and used an inferior plastic to repair the latch system under the cars. One person died, but it was also because the operator released the second car before the first one was over the lift hill, so the cars collided. Because of this, my family was so scared that I was 14 before I ever rode a "real" rollercoaster. With only having one train, this "new" rollercoaster should be safe from that, though.
