It is so sad he passed away.....he was thr best thing to come out of Disney Era star wars.....id take 3 movies with him over the sequal trilogy any day
We lost someone special when Ray Stevenson passed away but we gained something truly special in every performance he did. May Ray Stevenson rest in peace.
It truly is sad that Ray has left us. Not only was he a great actor with great charisma. He prehaps brought alive one of the most interesting SW characters in awhile. May he Rest In Peace. 😞
Loved the character of Baylan Skoll - one of the best characters in the series, if not, one of the best things to happen in the series. R.I.P. Ray Stevenson. What's also sad is that though we may see the character again, it just won't be Ray doing it.
Disney at last managed to introduce interesting character whom you dont forget in 2 minutes after movie or series. And than the actor who played it dies, what a bad luck
This dude has the best dialogue in all of Disney Star Wars and he delivered it with such impact and grace. There are too many actors these days that are taken from us too soon.
This man was such a treasure. He really made Baylon HIS own. I believed in that character and wanted so much to see more of him. Tremendous loss of talent. His presence was scene stealing even with few words. He brought gravitas to this role. RIP Ray Stevenson…
"It didn't need to come to this, but you knew no other way" - truly the hero of the show. I hope they won't kill the character. He's the best Jedi we've seen in a decade.
That move at 5:18 is always sexy....his ability to simply but effectively block blasters mixed with his rock-solid strong stance makes him a very threatening force without him needing to utter a single word or make flashy moves. His aura could push you away as if the very air around him turned into a cat 5 hurricane windforce. RIP Stevenson - I have no idea how season 2 could ever survive without you, if it ever makes it at all.
Baylon and Qimir are easily my favorite Sith/Villians of the new era. Its so sad that Ray cant see the love everyone has for his character. Rest in power
Yes. I always like seeing new darkside users in Star Wars media. Each of these characters is great in their own ways. Qimir for being a live action sith that isn't Vader, Palpatine, Maul, or Dooku and Baylan for being an unaffiliated darkside user that is completely separate from the sith order.
Did Baylan just diss Anakin? Mate Anakin would have overwhelmed this old fool in his heyday .I will admit though, Baylan is a great bad ass alternative to Lord Vader since his demise.
But they all died out while baylan stayed the same way became a master of his own and now is being called by the mortis! He’s badass old warrior unlike those fallen masters lol
It's such a shame he passed away I like to think in an alternate universe He was exactly what Star Wars needed and the second and third season of ahsoka would have united the fan base and show people that Disney Star Wars is not dead..... anybody know anything about interdimensional travel
Rest easy Ray. There is no death, only the force. Also yes, he talks about Abeloth, no doubt on that. Feloni DID find a way to bring at least THE BIGGEST EVER EXISTING THREAT to at least his vision. Its not legends so she will be weak AF and be beaten easily compared to what they had to do in legends, but yea, he there to find "The Mother"
I know there was a lot of talk of Joruus C'baoth when Baylan first appeared in the trailer. While I would love C'Baoth to appear in Canon Star Wars project (live action or otherwise), I really appreciate they went with an original character as fascinating as Baylan. An antagonist yes, but I can't call him a villain. None of his actions feel malicious, he treats his opponents with respect and when he can truly to resolves things peacefully. And his plan on Peridea whatever it was seems more to reshape the universe/Force for the better instead of just trying to rule everything/live forever like Palpatine. We truly had a great loss when Ray Stevenson passed (RIP) and I would have loved to have seen where his story went from here (there's always young Baylan stories but its not the same). However they continue the Peridea storyline I hope it does honor to both the character and actor.
I know I'm a little late but I just found out he passed away he was by far the best character in Ahsoka he was the reason why I kept watching the show rest in peace a great actor
Ray Stevenson = the best Punisher ever! So disappointed that we never got a sequel to War Zone. Berenthal is so one dimensional. He's essentially playing a clenched fist. Jane was too wholesome to play Castle. Lundgren was good for that time but Stevenson was the best.
I want to know more about what happens to his character but at the same time, you can't just recast an actor in Star Wars. It just doesn't happen and feels wrong to start now. Animated is the only way forwards I can see. That or have him die off-screen. It wouldn't be as good but it's better than getting another actor to play the role. Would break the immersion.
By far the greatest character in the series, far outshining even Ahsoka herself. His charisma and commanding gravitas was on the same level as Christopher Lee's Count Dooku. RIP to Mr. Stevenson. I recommend watching his scenes in Black Sails. He was outstanding as the legendary Captain Blackbeard.
It's funny I see this comment just as I was wondering what if they came up with this character during the sequels rather than Snoke. He'd have been the perfect master for Kylo Ren.
We already have kylo ren. He is already a former jedi with a traumatic past that understands why the jedi failed including his uncle. He has a clear goal but a conflict to overcome: "let the past die. Kill it if you have to. It's the only way to become what you're meant to be". But deep down, he doesn't want to let go of the oast. I mean, he also had that kind of dialogue. Baylan skoll would fall short next to kylo in the sequels. Literally the only bad thing people have to say about him is that he gets angry easily xd
@@hyder5747 Every single time he did something he lost like half the guys or ships he sent, never achieved anything and then was like "we have them right where we want them, this is all going to plan". Actor was great but the things they had him do and say were honestly too stupid for it to be Thrawn.
@@sirtimothy92 don’t forget about honouring the man, especially since he made this character possible, just as much as Dave was part of the reason for it being possible
knowing how current Lucasfilm/Disney work, they probably modeled him after Valkorion/Joruus C'baoth, but of course they'd deny it; same way Kanan Jarrus was basically Kyle Katarn with a different name/background.
@@ParsaNazari-tg9cn it sucks but honestly they should recast. He's too interesting and important of a character to throw away. Disney needs every bit of good will they can get at this point
@@ParsaNazari-tg9cn I really don't get the sentiment that characters should not be recast. It would be utterly stupid to just waste a character because people dont like recasts
He is probably the most honest character in the entire Star Wars franchise. Stevenson embodied a character, not altruistic, nor evil, we didn't know we needed until it was too late. He'll be sorely missed .
I love when Baylan and Ahsoka fight there are so many parallels & hints between a knight fighting a samurai from the stances, fighting styles even down to the clothes.
@@naseemweathers8358 The irony is that their duels are to "buy time", but it's some of the most lethal choreography of the entire franchise. They're not just swinging at eachother's lightsabers and making flashy moves; they're actually swinging at eachother.
I've always loved how Lightsaber combat forms mimic real life historical combat forms to an extent. She is doing her best to throw him off with a simple Shi-Cho stance while Baylan has no qualms of just assuming an Ataru stance, considering his age and abilities, that would make us believe he is pretty proficient with that Lightsaber form.
Love how that Baylan was methodical, cold, calculating with his initial spars with Ahosoka. There was mutual respect of each other's skills and abilities. However, once Ashoka body'd his apprentice, the GLOVES CAME OFF. Baylan went full send and overpowered Ahsoka easily, in defence of his Padawan. Right, Wrong, Light, Dark, you have to respect his commitment, respect, love, and appreciation for his Padawan.
I always thought that, in light of what he was trying to do, him training a padawan was unnecessary. Until I looked at it like he made a promise out of love and honor to train her as best he could. That would explain his dedication and willingness to let her go where she could most thrive without him.
The way Baylan talks about 'ending the cycle' of jedi and sith and whever is in power reminds me a lot of Daenerys' will to 'crush the wheel' in GoT. However I feel Baylan's will is more founded.
Daenerys was ultimately in pursuit of a duty that hadn’t been intended for her. She was just a princess, in the beginning. But then, all of a sudden, she is (as far as she knows) the last Targaryen. So she has to assume that mantle and pursue the throne, as any Targaryen, as any conqueror would. But in the beginning, all she’d really wanted was that house with the red door.
Daenerys was hypocritical. She wanted to end the cycle of rulers and the ruled by being…the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms? Of the world? Her crusade was a flimsy reason to justify her conquest. Baylan Skoll was like Ahsoka; he wanted to stop fighting, but more than that, he wanted the fighting itself to stop.
@@thephantompenance It's more that Daenerys wanted to rule in a manner where she wasn't as removed from the smallfolk, or as ignorant/cruel towards their plights, as her father had been. Or the Lannisters and their allies. That's the kind of wheel she's talking about, the kind of petty infighting and power plays that often trample the smallfolk or actively abuse them. Daenerys was a conqueror, no two ways about it. But prior to the absolute disaster of writing that was Season 8, she was relatively more moral than several other rulers of note. There was a pretty clear distinction between her and, say, Tywin or Cersei Lannister. Or Balon and Euron Greyjoy. Or the Boltons, and the Freys.
One of the best, enigmatic, methodical, and focused duelists ever seen. Truly a phenomenal performance by Mr. Stevens. May he rest in oeace and be one with the Force.
Best original Star Wars character recently in Star Wars. I love the fact that he's a Dark Jedi. Ray Stevenson carried the show with his amazing performance. He will be dearly missed. RIP
14 minutes of dialogue. Yeah he stands in the back a lot as window dressing man what a waste, but those 14mins are powerful. Superb actor and the show needed him.
Anthony Hopkins only got 16 minutes of screen time in silence of the lambs. Often with villains it seems like less screen time enhances their mystique and makes their presence more notable. Johan Liebert from the anime Monster is another example
You know, Baylan Skoll would be the main antagonist of the Sequel Trilogy, alongside Thrawn, instead of Palpatine and Kylo Ren, as he could be considered a mix of both Qui Gon Jinn and Thanos. A Jedi who survived Order 66, however, as he learned that the Jedi were too arrogant and got involved into politics that led to their downfall, therefore he had lost faith in the order, and so he created a new order of Dark Jedi, and turned the Knights of Ren into a military force, instead of Stormtroopers. He would work with Grand Admiral Thrawn as they both have a common goal, achieving peace, so they made an alliance, renaming the former Galactic Empire into the Eclipse Reign, as their military forces are force user who used both the light and dark side of the Force.
Man I didn't know he passed. He played such a great villain in this show. Powerful and mysterious, I wonder what they'll do with his character either way, he left a great impression for such an unexpected role I felt.
Ray lived just long enough to wave to his family through video link in the Hospital ward, he passed not long after, I'm not sure if the family have disclosed what illness suddenly took him.
loved his performance so much, every scene he was in. You could see the idea of the wise seasoned jedi, the imposing stature and cool demeanour was fantastic.
I think Ahsoka series gets to much praise but Rays performance as Baylon Skoll is amazing acting, he deserves all the credit he gets. May his soul rest in peace. Hopefully he knows how much he’s appreciated and missed
Gotta love how when Ahsoka and Baylan's lightsabers lock, Baylan just pushes against Ahsoka with more power. Also love Baylan's blocking of lightsabers, so mechanical. It's a very unique method. God bless Ray Stevenson, and may he rest in peace.
@@patrickwaldeck6681 well... he did do some spinny flippy shit fighting ahsoka, near the beginning. i took it more as he was winding up his momentum to push harder down on her though, it was still fun to see the huge guy become agile for a moment.
I see you are one of the initiated. One who recognizes the individual styles. Very impressive *Flourishes green lightsaber in formal salute before entering Shii Cho Stance Pray tell, what is your preferred style?
His character was the only part about this show I enjoyed. He was a pretty well written and acted villian in a very rushed show. Sad to hear we wont see more of him.
