I think the 4 best pre nes consoles from the 2nd generation of gaming are the Atari 2600 Atari 5200 intelivision and Colecovision. The other consoles where not bad but it was more quantity over quality.

I had this console... I don't remember all the games but I do remember playing Carnival, Donkey Kong, Baseball (with the super action controller), Mousetrap, Zaxxon, and others. My neighborhood friends and I would spend hours hooking and unhooking Intellivisions, Ataris and ColecoVisions up to the TV.

Wing War was a favorite of mine. I was highly obsessed with it (I was roughly 7-8 years old at the time) and remember playing that game throughout the whole video game crash period, until my parents bought me an NES in 85. I also loved Jukebox, mainly for the music. I would chill out to it as a kid in my room. The music still has a weird calming effect on me.

Pepper II is an unsung classic. Much fun to play with great audio. Always preferred Mr Do to Dig Dug. And Atarisoft made a knockout cover of Defender for Coleco. Venture could have been great for its day but they forgot to create a finale for it. It just repeats endlessly. Slither with the trackball was also enjoyable. Sad that the system was never really tested due to the video game crash..

THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS FROM AN OLD LADY. A FRIEND IM CHATTING WITH TOLD ME ABOUT THIS OLD CONSOLE. I THINK MY OLD CONSOLE IS EVEN OLDER THAN THIS. I THINK ITS STILL HERE PACKED AWAY IN BOXES. I GOT IT IN 1968. I HAD A GAME WHICH WAS JUST A BAT AND BALL. YOU HAD TO HIT THE BALL AGAINST THE WALL. I WAS ONLY 16 THEN. I HAVENT UPGRADED SINCE THE PS2. I NOW HAVE A PS2, N64 AND I KEPT MY OLD SNES. I LOVE THE RPG STYLE GAMES ON THE OLD CONSOLES. ID HAVE TO SAY MY FAVOURITE GAME WOULD BE EITHER FINAL FANTASY 7 OR SUIKODEN 2. BUT I VERY MUCH LIKE OTHER GAMES SUCH AS DARK CLOUD, DARK CHRONICLE, ROGUES GALAXY, ALTERIER IRIS 3, DRAGON QUEST 8 AND MY FAVOURITE ON THE OLD SNES WAS EQUINOX. I REMEMBER PLAYING DONKEY KONG ON THE OLD ARCADE MACHINE. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN. I USED TO GO INTO THOSE OLD FUN PARLOURS WHERE ALL THE ARCADE MACHINES WERE. IT COST 20 CENTS BACK THEN TO PLAY ONE OF THE GAMES. I USED TO LIKE MR DU THE BEST THEN I ENDED UP BUYING AN OLD 2ND HAND ARCADE MACHINE WHICH I STILL HAVE AND IT STILL WORKS BUT I VERY RARELY EVER PLAY IT NOW.

Thank you for the opportunity to hear about your arcade adventures. I had an old Pong machine, but as an only child, those were for two people. So when the Atari 2600 came out, WHOOPIE! LOL! I also loved the older arcades. I remember the older 🎳Bowling🎳game that had a "disc". A flat metal disk/disc you slid down the lane. There were little metal pieces that stuck up through the "woodgrain" lane, and if you hit it the pin would "get hit". It worked similarly to actual 🎳bowling🎳 except a disc not a ball. There were pins but they hung via wires and the disc took them out via the metal prongs on the lane. It kept score. I think one quarter played 3 frames and if you did three quarters you'd get a full 10 frame game. Later it was changed to $1.00 for a full 10 frames. I LOVED that game. Sadly most of them were at bars, BUT we had a Red Carpet Lanes right by our house. Red Carpet was a 🎳🎳Bowling🎳🎳Alley🎳🎳 a HUGE🎳🎳Bowling🎳🎳Alley🎳🎳. They had 30-35 lanes on both sides. On both sides they also had a arcade room. In the middle was the bar🍸🤪🍸and it was a awesome place to go to if you wanted to place games. Across the street was a actual arcade called Palmers🎱Billiards🎱 & Arcade. They had 10 🎱Pool🎱Tables🎱 that rented by the hour. They also had a huge arcade floor. 5-8 Pinball Machines, and 15-25 Arcade games 🕹. They had tabletops, stand-up machines, and the newer riding machines for like Racing, be it cars, Indy or Nascar, or even Superbikes. THAT one was cool AF! I LOVED and still LOVE Pinball! On my PS2 I have the Williams Pinball and Stern Pinball games. Got them both on my PS3 & PS4. With a crapload of DLC. These games were such a fun experience. A distraction that kept me from being foolish. I didn't need help to be a fool....lol! I loved so many games. Joust was one that got me. Then Crusin' the USA was another. Donkey Kong, Dig-Dug, Q*Bert, & the classics Mr. & Ms.Pac-Man🟡▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎⊙▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎🥶🥶👻👻 So much fun, so many memories, and so many years past. God it was easily some of the best times ever!

Thank you! This was epic! I can remember so many of these games!🎮 CONGO BONGO! That was an arcade game that I played at Aladdin's Castle 🏰, BUT it didn't last long? I don't know if it broke down a lot? But we had it for maybe 2 months and POOF GONE! Sucked because I like it. As odd as it was. Anyone remember CRAZY CLIMBER? Two controllers that moved up and down and side to side. You had to climb a skyscraper and make it to the top. But people would slam windows🪟on your fingers 👋 OWWIE! and you'd fall....OH OH OH NOOOOOOOOO! Splat. Others dropped plants I ceramic pots on your head! Ow! Again! Alsomthere was a big ape too. King Kongish? Annoying but fun game!

By far my favorites that stand out from my youth are: "Rocky boxing" with Mr. T, and "Frontline" which was cool because at different stages you were either an Infantry guy running like shown, or got to another level then you jump in a tank ect.. Had Atari 2600 then upgraded to this which was my last console as kid. Fun memories being a kid in the 80"s. Tech toys were still just coming in and not as overly consuming as they are now, and we still played outside mostly street football too back in the day.

@@jonniefast I'd love to do that. Have a retro game room. I had a 25" tube retro📺TV📺that'd be perfect for them. But I'd need a couple 📺TVs📺for this to work. Speaking of working, finding actual functional/ working retro systems like a ColecoVision, Sega Master System, a Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, a NES, Super NES, N64, or a TurboGraphx-16? Not cheap? I thought about a Atari Jaguar, but on eBay or RipoffBay Jags can run you $200.00+ and many of them DON'T WORK! Then what? I agree I'd PREFER an actual RETRO SYSTEM as opposed to a modified version. But when a Modified system contains MULTIPLE systems and thousands of games, financially for me to acquire all of those system's and games. YEESH were talking thousands of dollars! So I'm NOT bashing you or your decision about this or anyone's for that matter. I'm just wondering about the financial issues possibly arising from it. Again I owned most of the 8-bit, 16-bit, 32&64-bit systems back in the day. I still have my Dreamcast, my N64, Saturn, my Genesis & the HANDHELD Genesis, the NOMAD! Great system but the power drain is massive! Again Modded Systems over actual systems? Modded>Actual in $Price$. Modded has again MULTIPLE Systems designed on each mod. Also each Modded system has MULTIPLE games per multiple system. Financially Modded wins hands down! Now the actual GAMES THEMSELVES! Are they the same? Many people say NOPE! NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! Some say they are exactly the same. HOWEVER for say the 🌎World🌏Record holders, modded games can be "altered". Difficulties can be lowered or heightened so?? That is a matter of honesty and that's been proven to NOT BE EFFECTIVE! As for the Mod vs. Actual? I still prefer the Actual System in-hand! But I also do own a Genesis Mini, and I LOVE IT! So it's up to each person and their wallet and budget! Either way ENJOY your hobby and GAME-ON DUDE!

For whatever reason, the ColecoVision never really took root here in Europe, certainly not in the UK or Germany, where most people outside of gaming historians have never even heard of the ColecoVision. This was mainly the reason why home computers more readily took root in Europe as gaming systems - the C64, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum were technologically vastly superior to the then-dominant Atari 2600, and were already fairly cemented in households by the time the NES and Master System came around (the NES came to Europe obnoxiously late in 1986). It's an interesting console to behold in retrospect. Obviously many of the games were released here in Europe on other systems, but its exclusives are utterly mindblowing when you consider the market they were released in. ColEm has been a veritable history lesson.
@EdsterIII
@EdsterIII 2 года назад
Living in the U.S., especially back then, we didn't know a lot about games that were released in Europe. The "exclusivity" deals were unbeknownst to us USUALLY. Again because we didn't get information like we do now. I did however buy most of the gaming magazines. Electronic Gaming Monthly. GamePro, Atari Age. I don't remember which magazines were out then except for Atari Age. I do remember how Atari had ports to the ColecoVision, and how angry I got when I saw how great Centipede looked on the ColecoVision and how it looked on the Atari💩💩2600💩💩 ooh I was irked, but again I was a kid. I knew a bit about systems and power, but how could Atari release a game that looked 100% better on a competing system? Either way it didn't matter because I ended up getting the Atari 5200, and eventually my Dad got the Atari 7800. Why, I have no clue? But so many of these games were such a part of my childhood memories. The arcade games🕹🎮at the mall. Also we had a Pizza🍕Hut restaurant within 5 minutes of our home. So we'd go there for 🍕🍽dinner🍽🍕 and they always had one arcade game 🕹🎮, but then they surprised me. They always had a stand-up machine, usually was 🟡Pac🟡Man or Defender. Then they added a "Table-top" machine. Ms.Pac-Man🥨 🟡🍒▪︎▪︎👻▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎○▪︎▪︎👻▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎👻▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎💨👻🍓🍊🍎🍐 These games bring back so many wonderful memories. I loved pinball, shooting pool, games at the carnivals, ⊙skee🔘ball⊙, and of course the arcade games. Dig Dug, Defender, Missile Command, Berserker, Zaxxon, Pole Position, and so many others, far far too many too list. But it was fun! An escape from school work...lol like that was sooo tough...lol. It was just a place to become a star pilot or a action hero, or a villain. You picked who you were. Back then it was so much simpler, easier, and life wasn't a judgmental jury at every turn. The 70's, 80's, and 90's were wonderfully simple. Yes now the technology is 1000X's what we had then but your privacy is also lost just as much as we "gained". Was/is it worth it? NOPE!

I mean, the ZX Spectrum was released in 1982, and the Amistad CPC released in 1985. So, of course one would expect them to be superior to a console from 1977. Europeans were late to the game. But it’s nice they finally came on board, elitism and all 😉 I grew up in Oregon. Our family didn’t have a console (or home computer) until I finally convinced my mom to pick up an Atari 7800 for dirt cheap, Christmas of 1988. Before that all we had were a couple sports hand-helds Mattel made in the late 70s. So around the time of the ColecoVision’s heyday, I relied heavily on gaming at my friends’ houses. Two of them had an Atari 2600 (as did my cousin) and we had fun playing games like Combat, Space Invaders, Wizard of Wor and Pitfall. But one of my best friends had a C64…and we would always want to go to his place to play. At school, we played Lemonade Stand, Carmen SanDiego and of course Oregon Trail. Only one kid in my class had a ColecoVision, and he rarely had friends over. Most of my time playing Coleco came at the store displays. And it was awesome. I was not aware at all of an Amistad CPC or ZX Spectrum at the time of the mid 80s, but I still had fun playing what I was playing in my oblivion.

I lived in the Netherlands (still do) and in 1985 we got a ColecoVision. It was amazing compared to the rest, and certainly compared to the Videopac G7000 (odyssey 2) we came from. We had no clue about the game crash in the USA, and no clue that Coleco was in very bad weather because of that crash. We had quite a bit of games and I enjoyed it SO much as a kid. The last couple of years I'm trying to revive my youth and bought quite some retro systems, one of which is the ColecoVision with Turbo and Atari expansions. It's still my favorite console of the era I think! The design is fabulous. I made a few multi-game carts myself for the games I can't aquire or that are rediculously overpriced. My favorites are definitely H.E.R.O., Tarzan and Frenzy. ColecoVision has some fans in Europe right😉

I have a game that I never see in these vids but I think it never made it out of prototyping. My cousin worked PR for Warner communications in the 80s and one day she brought me home and gave me a completely black cartridge with just a typed label that said "Porky's" and it was a game based on the movie "Porky's" for the Colecovision. I think it was a game that didn't make it out of prototyping for Warner or something and she just brought me home the cartridge and gave it to me. I probably still have it up in my parent's attic. I know my colecovision is up there still so the cartridges are most likely there also.

I also remember the "Adam" add-on that ColecoVision had. It turned your gaming system into a home "computer". It was a main selling point as I really wanted a computer🖥, but if I remember correctly it wasn't cheap, it was actually pretty expensive and not much came out for it in the end. So?
