COMMON QUESTIONS: If some of my wording bothers you when going over these tracks, saying that "x track isn't super crazy/isn't so bad/is a little easy," then I highly suggest watching at least the ending part at 1:48:46 where I talk about my thoughts on the difficulty of the dev times overall -- None of these times are easy, but I was gauging them relative to optimization and the general difficulty of the rest of the times. All of them are fairly respectable times at a minimum, but some are definitely easier than others. If I stopped at every time and said "yeah this is very hard" then that would kind of defeat the purpose. Also, if you're curious why I paused during Spyro Circuit, check out this clip: clips.twitch.tv/IronicConcernedAubergineBuddhaBar Unfortunately, like I said at the start, there isn't a lot of major tips to give for these courses other than "don't lose fire, and cut corners as much as possible." These times are really meant to be for people that can already hold fire and want to get better at optimizing their lines. For some tracks, this will be a massive jump up even from the Velo times. If you can't beat all of these times, you definitely shouldn't be ashamed, there are only about 800~ players that had times consistently in these realms before this patch. Pace yourself, if you start to tilt, take a break. Q: How do you u-turn without jumping? A: Grounded U-Turn. There's a video linked in the cards when I mention it, and also a link in the description about it, but I'll put it here as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-elgpTDFiAo0.html -- at around 3:40 in that video is where grounded u-turns are being explained/shown. Q: What do you mean "double tap the boost pad?" A: At 40:43 if you watch, I hit the boost pad, and immediately jump at the base of the ramp, and land on the pad a second time before jumping off the end of the ramp. Just listen for the turbo pad sound, if you hear it twice, you did it right.
I‘m almost a year late, woo-hoo. Haven‘t played in over a year either but I got myself into all the deeper mechanics back then to become more competitive online. I want to definitely say: There were a LOT of surprising tips, seriously! Not just the typical „hold fire and cut corners“, you went into crucial parts of the tracks here and there and that will honestly help me endlessly. Today I got Crash Cove‘s and Drive-Thru Danger‘s Dev‘s Times. Will work on getting all of them. Either way, your voice is incredibly pleasant to listen to and this was actually very fun to watch, just wanted to have said all that!
Q: How often are you supposed to hold the accelerator button? Do you hold it most of the time unless U-Turning or do you only hold it until you get a boost going (so basically never)? I've been trying both and it makes sense that you would never hold it when you have a boost going, unless the accelerator gives you more speed (but I don't think it does.)
@@sijan824 Half a year ago N. Tropy was INSANELY hard for me. But by late October/early November I had all the PSN trophies and all Oxide times. You'll get there! It's honestly a battle of patience more than skill. I still sometimes get upset on my first or second time trial attempt and start messing up a lot. Haha.
I couldn’t beat N tropy for a while but I eventually got good enough. Oxide was a nightmare waiting to happen back in the day, especially for tiny temple because I couldn’t keep blue flame. Few days ago I finally got digital n tropy and I was so happy. Not even touching Velo or developer times tho
I remember playing the original CTR and being like “Oxide is impossible”, years later I replay CTR on this remake and I beat Oxide, I felt good, then Velo comes and makes me cry, and finally Beenox times come and I wonder if god truly exists
Actually, some of the Oxide ghosts on ps1 are just as difficult as some of the developer ghosts on CTRNF, because the controls back then weren't as accurate as they are today. It is not fair to compare... rather, the old Oxide is not comparable with the new one. The old one can sometimes be a real nightmare, while the new one is almost always a joke.
I just beat the times yesterday and for the life of me I never thought in a million years I would be able to. Granted some took me more tries than I'd like to admit BUT once I got the devs lines down, honestly the times weren't as hard as I thought just lots of mess ups and resets. Just for me, playing this game and beating all the TTs on my own I'm quite proud of myself, but if you are someone who is having trouble with the N Trophy times, Do. Not. Give. Up. if an average player like myself can work up the clock anyone can, you need some motivation, you got this dudes!!
I know I'm late but I remeber when I first started playing and thought n trophys times were ridiculous lol what was I getting my self Into I thought. Still to this day I'm struggling with veloXXVII but watching these delevoper runs have help me beat some of them
Tj Young I started playing about a month ago, is beating N.Tropy easily good for only a month? I feel like I learn something new every day, and I’m a huge crash fan but I never liked kart racers. That’s why I never got into CTR, but now this is one of my favourite games of all time.
I'm actually using this video as a guide on beating Oxide's time trial, mostly learning what lines and shortcuts to take. My skills are terrible but at least i managed to beat Oxide and get the trophy, thank you so much. 👍
Every time a newbie complains that this game is too slow, I die a little inside knowing they’ve never seen the terror that rests deep within that is the time trial mode.
@@moist.teabag yes. at 40:43 if you watch, I hit the boost pad, and immediately jump at the base of the ramp, and land on the pad a second time before jumping off the end of the ramp. Just listen for the turbo pad sound, if you hear it twice, you did it right.
Hi, I finally unlocked the master tires and I gotta say: thanks a lot for the tips Dashy, everytime I got stuck or needed some guidance with shortcuts or racing lines I came back to this video. My best wishes for you and your channel!
These are at the edge of my ability currently, but I am chipping away. 3 down, with about 5 or so that look very doable. I will emerge on the other side a much better player. Thanks for the video; it will prove a valuable resource!
Thanks for the help on all this, after 500+ attempts I managed to beat MegaMix Mania with an Acceleration character, only had to use speed for Koala Carnival and Crash Cove
dude, watching you has made me better at this game. i watched this video yesterday, got back to the game today, and smashed a bunch of my PBs by like 2+ seconds in just a couple of tries. keep being awesome.
Those wall jumps on Sewer Speedway are crazy. It's annoying drifting in that area because sometimes you'll be on the wall and you'll hit an invisible object and just fall flat like you ran into a wall. I'm about to practice that shit. Thank you for this compilation.
also as Dashy said in the pinned comment "f you can't beat all of these times, you definitely shouldn't be ashamed, there are only about 800~ players that had times consistently in these realms before this patch. "
These are really helpful hints that I'll be using for most dev times as I struggle with some Velo times. I have beaten the Hot Air Skyway and TinyTemple dev ghosts, but I have a long way to go. Thanks for the video.
I only use Accel, the only track I had beaten the dev times before they were added was Drive-Thru Danger, but I guess it's because that's the only track I grinded for hours on end continuously. I guess I'll have to use speed lmao
I managed to beat all the developer times, but it was agony. Most were done with the drift class, but speed was needed almost 50 percent. I often watched videos of the dev times and aimed to be around the time for each lap.
I used to be an acceleration main. But then drift came, and it had the exact same handling. So i was like "why not?" But i still play with acceleration sometimes online.
Ain't drift now the best? In play the game back since two weeks now, beaten adventure on hard, platinum relics, Oxide on every tracks, velo sometimes with King Chicken and I get that drift has best handling and speed, reducing possible mistakes AND rewarding you even more for making none?
And then there's me, Who has beaten all Velo times with Balanced (the class i use the most) and now i'm depressed that some of this are impossible with this class (looking at you Crash Cove, damn you William)
For me, out of all the times I think the one I struggled with the most was definitely turbo track. It took me ages to realise that they mess up at the end of lap 3. I always felt I was too far behind so quit halfway around lap 3 but you can definitely catch them with the mistakes they make. Mega mix mania was another one I had problems with. Purely because I kept getting stuck in the mud/grass after the bluefire pad
Imagine being N. Tropy, Nitros Oxide, or Emperor Velo XXVII. You are all convinced that you are the masters of time/speed. Except that’s not true and you’ve all been surpassed by some dude named Andrew.
So watching the video, you noted how the dev was 4 seconds behind you on Papu's Pyramid and that you were unable to figure out where they lost time. I honestly think it may be because you did that grass cut and the dev did not. I'm also learning quite a bit of ideas to try out on my own end once I manage to master u-turning. Don't think I'll go for dev times but perhaps Oxide first... still need to beat Tropy and let's just say Dragon Mines is getting close to me losing a controller out a window.
Me during Grand Prix Gasmoxia: Yes! Finally! I beat the Velo ghosts! Me during the data mines: Please, don't add more ghosts. I've suffered enough. Me when the dev ghosts are released: O_o ... *Screams internally as I die inside and think about breaking my Nintendo Switch in half*
Here's my thoughts on the times Crash Cove: Way too tricky for the type of track CC it's supposed to be. Mystery Caves: A pretty easy one to say the least. Still took a few tries though. Sewer Speedway: Annoying. Stupid barrels and strange walls in the pipes. Roo's Tubes: Not that bad. Still was a challenge. Shortcut at the end was tricky. Slide Coliseum: Not terribly hard. Corner cuts were pretty easy to nail and the tires weren't that hard to jump. Still had some embarrassing fails. Turbo Track: Near impossible. The timeframes of those blue fire pads are extremely short even with proper drift boosts. The 180° turns were hell to master. The boost pads at the end of the turns were hard to nail. Luckily, William does screw up near the end and that's when you take the victory. In my case by 0.02 seconds. Coco Park: Easy once the pattern was discovered. The first shortcut was the only issue. Tiger Temple: Excruciating. The grass was completely random with speed. Fire was hard to maintain. Flame throwers weren't that bad. Papu's Pyramid: Rather hard. The 90° turns were a pain and the boost at the end was tricky to nail. Dingo Canyon: Pretty hard. The water was a pain, the armadillos were easy to avoid but that beginning shortcut was madness. Polar Pass: A fair challenge. Tricky to pull off the corner cut at the lake. Ice was kinda annoying. Tiny Arena: Not the easiest. Those corners kept poking my kart. Dragon Mines: Self explanatory. Annoying sharp turns, shortcut that's incredibly hard and mine carts that alternate in patterns. Just barely beat William by 0.01 second. Blizzard Bluff:A nuisance. Boulder, first two shortcuts and corner cuts weren't an issue. The fence cut was the troublesome part. Even with the right triple jump technique, it wouldn't cooperate 86% of the time especially on the second lap. Hot Air Skyway: Relentlessly painful. The turns are challenging to take at such high speeds. The 360 loop was very annoying as I constantly hit the wall. The very last shortcut was the hardest to master as I frequently under shot it. Cortex Castle: A not so bad one. Line and shortcuts were easy to take. Fire was a struggle. Spiders were give or take for annoyance. N. Gin Labs: A surprisingly easy one. Raphael screws up in the later laps. Cuts were easy to make. It was close as I lost fire near the end. Oxide Station: A nice break actually. All about super close corner cuts. Easiest cuts to be honest. The track is twisty and can be hard to navigate at high speeds but it's not that bad. Inferno Island: Not too bad. Pretty simple. Easier than Crash Cove that's for sure. Jungle Boogie: Still not bad. The first shortcut wasn't bad. The second one could get annoying. Tiny Temple: A close one for sure. Even with the right line, there's barely any room for error. Beat Vincent by 0.03 seconds. Meteor Gorge: Not my favorite. The snow on some turns killed some good attempts. The snow banks were annoying. That activation crate ramp is a troll. Barin Ruins: Cakewalk. Easy corner cuts. Ice wasn't as big of an issue as Polar Pass. Robots weren't an issue either. Deep Sea Driving: Torture. One thing going for it: the turbines and their oversized hitboxes. If not the turbines, the tube walls. If not the tube walls, the screw you wizardry flying. Hated every bit of it. All the tears I shed could definitely fill the frozen over ocean of Barin. Out of Time: Madness. Corners had rocks that can screw up a good run. The rock in the last turn I hate the most. Turns are incredibly sharp and there's barely any time to drift to maintain fire. We can't forget the windmill either. I hated Norm's home track. Thunder Struck: Pretty annoying. The stupid logs were the big problem. And that last turn. Eventually got it right. Clockwork Wumpa: Annoying challenge. Stupid cogs and their large hitboxes. Corners weren't the worst. Android Alley: An easier one. Train wasn't a problem nor most of the corner cuts. The turn after the train was the biggest problem. Assembly Lane: Another not too bad one. Only problem was the pressers. Line was easy to locate. Electron Avenue: Hardest Teknee track. Racing so fast, you can't even think. The U-turns can be hard to execute and you might just brake instead. The electric currents weren't as big of an issue as the turns and speed. Hyper Spaceway: A challenge. Maintaining blue fire through the citadel area was tricky. The figure eight area was mildly bad. The lasers at the jumps were nothing to worry about. Pretty hard though. Twilight Tour: Surprising. New shortcut to find and speed to be discovered. Prehistoric Playground: Hard. The log shortcut could be overshot and the turn in the cave can be dangerous. Spyro Circuit: Not fun. Fire can be hard to maintain, wizard arena shortcuts can be hard to take and the tornado attacks can be invisible. Nina's Nightmare: Annoying. Fence cut can be a pain. The goo is really annoying. Wall collisions are awkward. Koala Carnival: Not easy. NASCAR yes but the line can be hard to nail. Sometimes the first shortcut can slow your air speed. Gingerbread Joyride: Not terrible. Corner cuts were close, shortcut was tricky to master but the jellies were nothing to worry about. Megamix Mania: Very tricky. The boost pad after the s-turns was ignored as it only wasted time. The turn at the propellers was hard to cut as I constantly scraped the wall or hit the mine. The ship was annoying. The jump was hard to cut and the minefield was pretty hard to drift in. Still pulled through and beat it by a good margin. Drive-Thru Danger: Not the hardest. Still tricky. Those turns are hard to master. Now I see why certain turns lack walls. Nuclear Pizza all the way. Some corner cuts were hard. The alien gull lamp shortcut was ignored as I only lost time and fell out of bounds. Certain shortcuts weren't a problem at all. Started flying at the Nuclear Pizza shortcut on the final lap but finished first. Had to go Drift for this fast food frenzy.
Great video, thanks for making this :) !!! Helped me a lot! Btw, is the speed that you have while keeping bluefire or the regular speedpad-fire influenced by the driver style? For example, is a speedstyle faster with bluefire than all the others? :o Greetings (:
Yes, fire just adds to an engine's base speed. That is why the WR times for every track are like 2-5 seconds faster with speed than any other class, regardless of what fire is available.
Big question: where the hell do my reserves go on papu’s pyramid? Because every time i roll up the spiral they magically disappear on me. I’ve had a 1:28 before the update and now i can’t do it for the life of me.
Papu's is kinda rough on reserves. if you play as accel you can actually line it right to do a 3x powerslide while doing the spiral even with SF, otherwise you gotta just do 1x, u-turn, 1x, u-turn, u-turn and land on the pad. Also you can do a different grass cut if your reserves are really sketch, which lets you powerslide a little sooner, just go inside the first piranha plant instead.
some of them, yes! in general walls seem to act differently though. If you just slightly brush a wall, sometimes you won't lose fire. Someone else had said that depending on how you brush the wall, the wall might just steal some reserves rather than take your fire away entirely. I haven't been able to mess with this much, but there are a few times even in this video where I touch a wall and don't lose fire. Overall this has made time trialing way less frustrating.
k1koth3gre4t they probably felt the same we did like: “Thats fucking bullshit that shouldn’t have hit what a fucking broken game” and fixed most tracks lol
Megumi and coco taste! I play as baby coco and Tawna/Isabella. I’m really struggling on papu cause of the spiral I might try acceleration instead that was always my class.
After watching this and using it as a guide to improve my driving skills (playing this on a Switch is a pain in the ass) I have 2 questions: 1. How changing a driving style can make a difference? I mean, I play on drift style, but I don't really know which driving style is better for this time trial stuff (and playing in general). 2. 1:15:87 on Thunder Struck.... HOW THE FUCK?! Great video and channel btw.
I feel like most of the tips here are "honestly this one is quite easy. Just keep your flame amd you'll be good to go". Which is equivalent to just saying "to beat this just be good at the game"
Here are my times for all of you to compare. The characters I list are their default driving style. Kart wise, I used the classic wheels and body for the CTR tracks and the driver's respective color and limited myself the tthe CTR characters. CNK, the 16 characters and the four team karts. The bonus tracks I did with Nitro Fueled items characters, outfits, karts, etc. Now then... *BEHOLD MY TIMES* Crash Cove: 1:19:70 (N.
