In regards to the Fatui shields, while an element might be the worst to use to break it, it is the element that gets the most damage through the shield. The example of the electro shield, Pyro will deal more damage to the enemies health bar, Cryo will do more damage to the shield. The damage that gets through is still a small portion of the damage you did overall, but if you find yourself facing an enemy with the wrong element to break the shield, then getting the most through damage is the next best thing.
From my experience, the one of the reasons why cryo is a good counter to hydro shields outside of the freeze part is that the shatter reaction from hitting a frozen enemy with a heavy attack will chip extra damage from the shield.
TIL Electro Abyss shield are also weak to Dendro! As much the Fatui shields make more sense, it's nice to also have a more "organic" feeling asymmetry in the Abyss shields.
i feel like it's intended the fatui manufacture their shields, they don't use delusions, visions or abyss magic, hence their perfect symmetry all other shields are made through the usage of elemental skills, which is a bit more natural, hence the asymmetry
Woah, the abyss shield weaknesses really surprised me! I figured that shields would correspond to elemental resonance resistance (electro>hydro>pyro>cryo>electro) but assumed that Overload/Freeze reactions would still be effective on relevant enemy shields. I now understand why my abyss archnemeses, the electro cicin mage & the hydro herald, have so thwarted my progress! Now I just need to rewatch your video on Thunder Manifestation & I'll have my strategies prepared for upcoming abyss resets! Thanks for, as always, giving clear and comprehensive explanations in this latest guide! ^_^
Cicin mages are technically part of the Fatui even though they have bubble shields like abyss mages. Also, the big hillichurls can be hit through their shields just like the Fatui men. Fun fact, all of Klee's attacks are considered heavy attacks mechanically!
Generally for the Fatui I don't bother with breaking the shield unless I happen to have the element that I need in my team. They get dmg res when their shield is up, but it's not like they're immune like Abyss Mages, so as long as you keep hitting them hard enough, you can get rid of them without needing to break their shield. It's a little more difficult in Abyss of course, but it's still very much doable.
Amazing video. I didn't know half of the stuff you explained. Nice. so I made a chart, let me know if I mistake: (non-fatui) shield and their weaknesses • Cryo: Pyro >> Electro • Pyro: Hydro >> Electro • Hydro: Dendro > Cryo >> Electro = Pyro • Dendro: Pyro • Electro: Pyro > Cryo = Dendro >> Hydro So if we make the tier list of which shield (excluding fatui shields) is most OP: S - Dendro (only one hard counter and ZERO soft counter) A - Pyro & Cryo (only one hard counter and rest are soft counters) B - Electro (no hard counter but many soft counters) C - Hydro (gets fu*ed by everyone) And for the element tier list for breaking (non-fatui) shields: S - Pyro (can break all types of shields, great against two, decent against other two) A - Cryo and Dendro (can break two types of shield pretty well) B - Electro (can break all types of shields but not a hard counter against any of them) C - Hydro (can only break Pyro shields and barely break electro shields, useless against cryo shields, worse than electro)
Fatui and Lawachurls don’t have shields but enhanced armor because they still take damage even when the armor is up. Abyss mages and Anemo Boxers have true shields because they negate damage as long as the shields are up. Anemo boxer shield is special because it can be infused with other elements and then then converted to an attack when the duration ends.
Note that for the anemo boxer, it will only be infused if it is hit by an element that can swirl, so doesn't work with geo, dendro, anemo, or physical damage
3:55 You just unlocked memories of farming Noblesse way back when... I used two anemo's and then also the Keqing shown here, since she'd take out any shield okay if there was nothing left to swirl
somebody at mihoyo really looked at the electro abyss mage and went "Fuck this one guy in particular" than proceded to give him a weakness to every element in the game other than his own.
Hydro fatui←electro Hydro abyss mage←dendro Hydro herald←cryo With hydro shields it's more reliable to toss a dice to guess the super effective element and once you do, all your options are wrong because you've excluded pyro, as the dice has only 6 faces and there are 7 elements, as you thought it can't surely be pyro, it wouldn't make any sense. Yes. It's pyro.
i think there’s been an update with the dendro application to hydro shields cause recently i’ve been tearing through the hydro fatui gunners like crazy with my dendro teams
It'll be so funny when 4.0 comes and they start introducing Dendro shields and everyone with their Dendro meta will be like "wait, they didn't add a Dendro shielded enemy on purpose to sell the Dendro units? How did I not realize that?"
I think you forgot because it's easily forgotten but the Fatui Anemoboxer Vanguard's Anemo shield (don't know if any other enemies possess it) - Weak to Pyro, Electro, Cryo, Hydro If it can swirl the shield, it can break it
1:28 yeah but the overloaded reaction damages the fatui guy directly taking him out a little bit faster than breaking the shield first (speaking as a Yoimiya main)
Thanks for this. I think it's electros diversity that throws me off when it comes to what elements beats what on shields. Hopefully I can keep it straight now.
Elemental abyss shields can be exploited by geo in general. You casually chip them down per hit and get a free crystalize shield constantly so you can unga-bunga them for a while and feel a bit safer, and the cryo abyss ones tend to shatter a tiny bit also vs heavy attacks if you've got the wrong elements but a claymore handy. Although fatui just in general will still crap on you. :V
i always thought of it as elemental shields, and attack though shields lol. amazing video though, i wish i could've watched this 2 years ago before learning it the hard way
You did forget 1, but its not an elemental shield. Its the Shield made by that Automaton that looks like a crab. I think you can only damage it from behind?
One more thing to mention here about the "Fatui shields" is that they don't completely block the incoming damage like the "Abyss shelds" do. They just severely reduces the damage. However, this partially counters their "unforgiveness". For example, GunYuu is still able to deal with the Pyro gunner in a reasonable amount of time just simply by brute force of her attacks - yes they get severely reduced by his pyro shield and yes the shield will probably only break at the same time as his HP bar gets depleted. But in some cases a proper element to break the shield is simply not available.
i came here for knowledge on herald shields for current abyss, dendro i haven't really been building so i'm going to hope dendro traveller is good enough
a bit bait since you showed the thumbnail at the end, i would have watched all the video if you showed it at the beginning, and then using it while showing clips.
They don't have Shields but Eremites have elemental weakness using their correct weakness speeds the fights with them ALOT. Those being the exact same element they infuse they use.
That’s determined by the nature of different types of shields. There are damage nullification shields, which completely nullify incoming damage until the shield is broken. These are the types of shields used by Abyss Mages and Abyss Heralds/Lectors. Then there are damage reduction shields, which reduce incoming damage, but still allow the enemy to take damage. These are used by the Fatui Skirmishers and Lawachurls, for example. This is sometimes known as Elemental Armor.
Most of the shields are sensible enough to forgive, but cryo beating electro shield is the most wild one to me, out of left field, like with, that's so weird and annoying
I can suggest Cryo. It's good for freezing enemies that have hydro shields + it's very good against electro shields + most users can apply it very persistently (Rosaria/Chongyun/Diona/Ayayaya).
2:46 Don't Electro-Charged ticks and Dendro Core explosions also chip down Hydro Abyss shields the same way Overloaded does to an Electro shield? Also, since shield breaking is tied to elemental gauge application, how come the Overloaded explosion further damages the Electro Abyss shield if it doesn't apply Pyro? Unless I'm mistaken and shield breaking is tied to elemental damage type (like Overloaded lighting torches because the explosion is Pyro damage even though it doesn't apply Pyro to enemies) rather than application. But if that's the case, how come attacks that apply more element break shields faster, like Bennett's skill and burst or Pyro Swirls against the Cryo Regisvine's corola? Also, which type of shield do Regisvine corolas and the Cryo and Pyro Hypostases' shield phases belong to?
Hi, I recently discovered your channel and I'm glad of did it. The way that you explain is perfect and the background music let me understand what are you saying and make me relax. Thank you for this amazing job!
This is a great educational video, and very helpful. But I can't help but noticing... You can tell when people never play with the English dub by the way they pronounce "Anemo" In the English dub it's always "AH-nih-mo", with an unstressed shwa for the second syllable that sounds slightly like a short i. But people who don't play in english come up with all kinds of things like "ah-NEE-mo" or "ah-NAH-mo", usually putting stres on the 2nd sylable
I mysteriously find Cryo abyss shields break in seemingly 2 ticks (near instantly), when the abyss mages are over burning grass, sometimes. The last time it happened, I was mining in Liyue, in the waterfall cave west of Mt Tiangheng (directly south of the Domain of the Wayward Path), and just used Dehya's skill (tapped twice) as it teleported near me, landing near one of the Cor Lapis. Maybe the grass being near the water has something to do with it?
gauge unit theorem 1E 2E we dont have a very good table in the wiki. but i didnt mean you could just say "basically..." to explain everything + crystallize (the reaction) and shatter (freeze smash) 'deals' gauge damage to shields too, reactions does get complicated but that's the essence of it
You don't really have any footage of abyss lectors here. Are they together with abyss shields? Cause I remember one strategy to beat the abyss lector quickly in abys(a few patches ago) involved giving the electro set to bennet to use his elemental skill/burst more often.
That is just the brute force of bennett skill and burst applying strong pyro 2 units instead of normally just one while TF set and bennett overloading can have his elemental skill cooldown to be just one second.
Those hydro abyss mages shields dissapears with nahida NA so so easily . That floor 9 chamber 2 ( i think) got 2 hydro abyss mages i just NA with nahida and those dendro cores deletes the mages (totally)

whatabout geo countering everything just like anemo but without the reaction? also physical attacks can chip abyss shields aand also monas burst makes breaking shields easier but most of this is useles ig :,D
But those aren't shields?, Those are buffs, if it reduces the damage and makes them stronger (like fatuis and lawchurls) then it should be considered a buff, while shields would be the ones that nullify damage
What about slime shields, hypostasis shields, whopperflower shields, Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto shield, the phisical shield objects carried by some hilichurls, regisvine core shields, abyss heralds shields, abyss lecters shields, Everlastong Lord of Arcane Wisdom shield and the lawachurl shields?
Those will follow the same weaknesses as "Abyss Shields", i.e. "any enemy that is not a Fatui Skirmisher". For Mikoto, it's worth mentioning that even though it's weak to Cryo and Pyro, the shield diminishes on its own as well, at a much faster rate than you can deplete it with your own attacks. Shouki's shield (and Dvalin's now that I think about it) is actually one that I didn't cover in the video! I believe they are both neutral shields, which don't have a specific weakness. Shouki's shield will also deplete on its own at a much faster rate than you can break with Elemental attacks.
@@jyolikearock_ Thanks for the reply! I also had one more question, the anemo fatui skirmisher seems to put up a sort of neutral shield when blocking, do you know how it works? It's been puzzling me for a while since it breaks and counter upon the first infusable hit but acts strangely with other elements
@@TheSast It works exactly as you described! It is a kind of unbreakable, neutral shield, which he will stop using as soon as it comes into contact with one of the 4 infusable Elements (or after some time if nothing is infused). As far as I know, there is no way to truly “break” this shield yourself.
(oh also it I forgot the Black Serpents shields, Golden Wolflord shield and the Cicin mages shields, but seeing the pattern, I assume the former probably fall in Abyss Shields the Wolflord in physical special shields and the latter in the fatui shields)
Ya sorry I didn’t cover them in this video. Their shield is unbreakable by conventional means, but they will automatically stop using it when you hit them with any Elemental damage. Then they will use that Vacuum Punch attack, absorbing whatever Element you hit them with. So you just have to use any Elemental attack to take their shield down, but just get ready to dodge the follow-up attack.
i think fatui shield and lawachurl shield is more like armor, coz they themselves still take small amount of health damage, while other shield completely block the health damage
I've been curious about player shields. Do specific elemental shields gain immunity to that specific element similar to enemy shields (it would explain how zhongli's doesn't get 1 shotted)?
Not immunity, but 2.5x increased effectiveness. So a Pyro shield can withstand 2.5x more Pyro damage than other types of damage, for example. In the case of Geo shields, they gain 1.5x effectiveness against all types of damage.
Oh dang, sorry about that. Does this link work for you? www.reddit.com/r/GenshinImpactTips/comments/z8ifih/elemental_shield_weaknesses_cheatsheet_updated/
fatui shields kinda force you to walk in with all 4 types of elements AND a claymore user on the team unless you know what fatui you are about to face. plus, you didn't mentioned, but anemo shields (like the fatui boxer) are damaged by all 4 basic elements (pyro, electro, hydro and cryo)
But sometimes i can kill them without breaking their shield. I did it spontaneously while fighting them. Any explanation about it? Or any tips to kill without breaking shield ?
It can happen with Fatui "shields", Whopperflowers and Geo/Lawachurl shields, which are more like super-armor that decreases incoming damage, instead of negating it completely. You can still trigger reactions and inflict physical damage, so maybe this is what happened. Abyss mages however are pretty un-killable unless you destroy their shield.
With hydro shields it's more reliable to toss a dice to guess the super effective elements and once you do, all your options are wrong because you excluded pyro, as the dice has only 6 faces and there are 7 elements, as you thought it can't surely be pyro, it wouldn't make any sense. Yes. It's pyro.
The Lector’s shields follow the same weaknesses as the Abyss shields. They have about 3-4x more “HP” than the Abyss Mage shields, so it’s normal that they take longer.
