For us bag nerds this video is CRACK!!! Thanks for the awesome content and for helping some of us refrain from buying multiple sizes, that chart is money 🤑
Agree this is straight up crack. I watched this video a few times, kept coming back to it as a reference point because "it made sense to me" to say something about my state of mind. 😂
How do you make time to fly? That chart is genius, especially with the cost per litre, super useful information that I’ve never seen or thought of before this. The outtakes are the best for entertainment value.
Thank you very much for this video! I have been wanting to dip my toes into Goruck, but have had a hard time finding out which size would meet my needs the best.
@@JBOutside1 Well I got ahold of a M23 21L yesterday and you know what? It’s a better fit! I can adjust it so it rides high or slightly lower. Sizing and content of my carry fit just fine. I can even add a layer to the inside if the weather turns cooler or wet. So I’ve decided to switch out to the 21L and am returning the 26L M23. I still have a 26L Slick if I need a larger bag for travel.
What a fantastic video! Just got my M23 21L today. Also, I just returned from a 4-day trip with my Radio Ruck and am now super excited to see how all of my stuff in the RR will fit in the M23. 😃
I would’ve loved to see the GR3 35 L in this as well! I’m considering getting it as an EDC bag and for travel. I know it’s a lot for EDC, but i’m curious how slim it gets when you cinch the compression straps?
@@JBOutside1 one more random question, since you own both. Do you think the 21L m23 holds more than the 21L GR1? I can travel with just my GR1 very comfortably, but I could use like an extra Liter or two as well. My torso is 22 inches long, but i find the 20 inch bags (GR1 26L) to be slightly too long for me to comfortably wear. Basically is the 21L m23 a good in between for the GR1 21L and 26L in terms of storage?
Great video JB! Thanks for putting it together. Using your chart am I to believe that buying an M23 26L will give me more packing volume than the GR3 35L?!? If true you have blown my GORUCK loving mind! 🤯
Yeah, I know. The math is crazy on this one. Some big assumptions but the dimensions are very different. Extrapolating my chart into the 35L you get a 31.4L "35L" GR3! 🤯
The Heritage bags are fine without a sternum strap in most cases. If you really MUST have one then Scars can add the webbing. If it's a 210D lined bag then I strongly recommend a sternum strap because that 210D is SLICK
Question for you JB. I’m needing a larger pack for airline travel. Looking at the chart the 26L M23 is larger than the GR2 34 or 40. My question is for a travel bag is that extra space actually as useful compared to the double clamshell opening of the GR2 line? With my height and from other videos you’ve done it seems like I’d be fine with a 34L since it seemed to pack out the same when you compared those to the 35L GR3. So which is a more useful bag for air travel the M23 or GR2?
Great question and the answer kinda depends on how you like to pack and more also about personal preference. They obviously pack differently because of the layout so if you're more clamshell, gotta see it all then GR2. The advantage to the M23 is the expansion of that top lid. It will pack down nice for lighter loads and expand if you need to overload it.
That is definitely the draw for me in looking at that M23 simply for those times when I leave with a certain amount of things, but come home with extras like gifts for the family. Considering it would be a bag that would be used as a travel bag, and not something I plan on accessing outside of packing and unpacking. It might be worth the compromise of no clamshell. That could only work if I could still fit a small pack like a bullet ruck sized bag when I get to my destination. I’m having trouble figuring out how I would be able to toss one in through that top access versus how much easier it is to put it into a clamshell.
I can see that. But the video I'm working on now is how I used the 35L GR3 all week. Used it to transport all my stuff and then cinched the sides down and used it all week. Worked well. The M23 would work very similarly I think and you wouldn't need the other bag. @@ShoelessPoimen
@@JBOutside1 I was wondering about that because it seems like that Robic nylon tends to flatten out pretty well where it’s not already packed. Size wise I am guessing the M23 is still actually larger capacity than any of the GR series?
I just started watching your channel, I'm fairly new to rucking and I get a lot from your videos. Thank you for your content. ❤One thing I wondered about is the intro music to the videos. Is it part of a particular song?
Thanks from Germany JB. Having a GR1 21L Heritage and traveling seven days with just one bag and no problems. Just some Merino Stuff and no additional shoes or jackets. But I always asked myself if it is really 21L because it felt so small. No I have the truth because of your comparison and it seems right that 21 isn’t actual 21. As an EDC Ruck perfect size and if I travel more oder longer therms in the future I would take/buy the 26L GR2
Great content JB. Watched this video twice already. I’m with you, the DC Bullet 16 hits the sweet spot. How do you feel about ripstop though? Would love to see an XPAC version or even a waxed canvas Heritage.
Great video. I love the comparison chart and I'm not an anylatical person. I'm debating 26L GR1 vs 26L M23. I like both bags, but I'd love to have just one bag.
Man, that's a tough call. Very different organization styles so it'll be which one makes more sense to you. And then there's the fact that the M23 is BIG
I’m looking for a durable bag that I can carry as an edc bag that I can also pack some extra stuff to double as a get home bag (if you’re familiar with the term) i would include some extra stuff that could come in handy in case of an emergency to help me get home safely. I was considering the GR2 34L for this. Do you think that would be a good option for this use? Thank you, love your in depth reviews and comparisons!
Thanks! This is super useful. Too bad though that you didn't briefly recap on the GR2 with the same packing cube calc or just mentioned what it fitted. Goruck should pay you for this one. It will save them a lot of bags being sent back.
Question. Will the 21L M23 fit inside a 45L GR3? The dimensions on the website make it seem like it’s too wide for that but I don’t know if the measurement is for the harder back panel or how wide the fabric can expand to the sides.
at 5'11 im trying to decide between the GR1 21L or 26L. i travel a few times a year and plan on giving rucking a go with the bag along with edc etc. If i had to only choose 1, which would you point me toward in your opinion?
Great question. At 5’9” the 21L fits me best but the 26L is ok for travel. I travel with the 26L and prefer the 21L for EDC and rucking. The 26L may be a perfect fit for you. Consider also your torso length. Mine is 20.5”. Hope this helps
Hey JB, thank you for your comparison video, especially before the launch of Kaidan 3.0. I already have many different types of Goruck backpacks, so I might only buy the Kaidan 3.0 version of either the Bullet 18L or GR2 26L. From your video, I feel like the storage space in the Bullet18 L double compartment seems to be between the GR1 21L and GR2 26L, right? So, besides the shape, do you think the two are very similar?
LOL. Wish I looked up more videos before buying. I went with a GR2 34L. Definitely could’ve went smaller 😂😂 Great video hope others see it first before ordering. Guess I need a 2nd bag now 😂😂
Ty for this Video. 😎👍🏻 I would like to buy the M23 but the Material (420 Nylon) well….what do you think is it strong enough for Travel and for Ruckung? What is here your recommendation? I just have an M22 waxed canvas. So i don‘t have a comparison.
Good question. I have been traveling with my M23 for the last two weeks or so and it's showing no signs of wear. I think the material is good, feels slick, and will hold up. I haven't done an extreme durability test...yet...but I think it will hold up. Plus there's Scars Warranty. If the design speaks to you I think it's a great one!
I have the Robic Nylon Belt bag, and I tried to cut a hole in it to do some modifications and I couldn't puncture it easily. I had to actually use a heated up knife to pierce it. I think the Robic Nylon material will be plenty durable. Also like JB said the Scars Warranty. Just don't try to pierce it with a hot knife because that will void the warranty lol.
