'All hell broke loose': Controversy over Tasmania's Queen Mary tribute 

Flag etiquette within Australian officialdom is almost unknown. The most blatant example is the government giving equal prominence with the Australian national flag with those of the aboriginal and Torres Straight Islands. This is an affront to all Australians.

They should not be called local government councillors. They're just councillors and nothing more. The flag change was for 1 day, people really need to start getting a grip. For the record national and state flags are more important than the aboriginal one.

Australia, a first world nation, economically and culturally so sucessful. There is a reason behind that and it has nothing to do with ancient beliefs.

The only flag that has to be displayed prominently by law is the Australian flag. I don't recognise any other flag, fuck them.

The Palestinian flag I would understand the outrage but what threat is Denmark to Australia ? It was just a symbol of respect to the new Queen who just happens to be Tasmanian

There is only one flag and that is the Australian Flag. Showing support occasionally for others by showing their flag should be no more than a short term tribute. We are all Australians and I only acknowledge the Australian Flag and the divisive use of minorities flags should cease. Get rid of these flags and the senseless acknowledgment to county bleating. My father and grand father fought and suffered under the Australian Flag and any attempt to divide or belittle its status is disrespectful and bordering on treason.

For what it is worth we are delighted The Denmark Flag was flown. We are very proud of Queen Mary.

The Australian flag should be in the middle, and whatever other flag/s is/are flown at a lower position, that includes the newly discovered aboriginal flag. For a " nation" that claims to be 1000s of years old, how come their flag is only a couple of decades old??????

The Aboriginals of English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh heritage need to chill, it was only for one day in celebration of the connection between Tasmania and Denmark, they get the other 364 days of the year.

The Aboriginal flag was designed in 1970 and ever since it has been used as a constant gag to all non aboriginal Australians. I AM Australian I filled in my paperwork in 1994 and became Australian and no I did not do it on Australia Day I did it around my birthday I did not want to be in a room full of other people when declaring my allegiance to Australia I had a private ceremony with my family present. Put all the old flags back and stop this campaign of whitewashing our history. What is done is past if everyone keeps this up we will start on the history before that and one before that and it will never stop How many times do people have to pay for something THEY NEVER DID

I think the oldest surviving culture on earth should show some respect for one of the oldest surviving monarchys on earth. Not only that, but they seemed to have achieved slightly more in their few hundred years than the oldest surviving culture did in their several tens of thousands of years.

The Aboriginal flag and Torres Strait Island flag are not recognised by the rest of the world that is why you do not see them at international events The correct positioning of the flags is meant to be the union jack in the centre at full mast signalling the united Kingdoms overall governing body over the nation the Australian flag on the right just below it signal the federal control over the state and the state on the left just below it. If another nation flag is been flowing it is to be flown on the centre flag as the same height as the Australian fla.
