I feel that this is just about the best performance Robert Smith Simon Gallup & LoL Tolhurst ever gave... It near the top of my list anyway. I've been a fan since 1984. My favorite era is 1978-1982. This was recorded live at the L'OLYMPIA in Paris, France 7June1982... I LOVE THIS PIECE!!8^)>
I heard, or rather saw them first (MTV) in 1984 too. Changed my whole world. I'm 48 now. A straight man, but still am in love with Robert Smith like I were a 13 year boy
I love this song. Amazes me that this recorded live. The layers, the effects, the way everything just came together. So perfect that this was recorded. Amazing.
Different titles, different lyrics, different tempos, but always the same unreleased mystery Cure song - a deep cut of a deep cut, unleashed once in a while on an unsuspecting audience to send them into an immersive rock trance like some alternative long pink floyd track.
Oh the G word. We were new wavers and punks. I remember the term goth, but it was mostly in U.K. publications. We had it hard. The Hot Topic kids have no idea and think MM and NIN, slipknot are the beginning. It's sad and not in a good way!
Nope, Goth was around a good three years before this performance, notably Bauhaus, UK Decay and Virgin Prunes. By 1982 there was also the second wave of bands such as Sex Gang Children, Southern Death Cult, Brigandage, Blood And Roses, etc.
Nah. This is 1982. The “goth” tag had already been in fairly heavy use since at least the beginning of the decade. Even back in the 70’s I would occasionally see it being used in certain magazines. It hadn’t quite yet become a ‘household’ term, but in ‘82 it was not uncommon vernacular at all, in the context of music.
