🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

Thank you DG for editing and posting this video. After a very long and tiring summer, long week and long day, watching the babies we raised and released was soothing to my soul. Comforted my heart reflecting that even though we can't save them all, we can save some of them. Thank you for sharing your incredible talents and valuable time to share this with others. We really appreciate you and everything you to do help the critters!

Hi Martin, my name is Cynthea. My parents moved toSimi Valley in 1964. I grew up there. As a young child, I, too, realize the importance of wildlife rehabilitation. I devoted my childhood to it. What I used to feed hummingbirds right out of the shell was an IV catheter. I partnered up with another lady whose entire property was devoted to them. As challenging as it was i know my time was well spent. At the age of 70 now I still educate people on the importance of the eco system and who lives in it. I have also educated my neighbors about pesticides. They are no longer using them. There are ways to secure your homes so that you don't have to use them.👩‍🚒

You're absolutely correct when you say it's super fun to see the hummingbird babies. I had the pleasure of having I believe two nest of fledgings in my yard. I'd close to 8 to 10:00 birds. I've never before had this many birds in my yard. Of course! I have lots and lots of flowers in my yard for them to enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing. It's good to see you.

I LOVE Humming Birds. I used to get them out at my Uncle and Aunt's House every Summer and they were fearless of me when I was a child. They would fly right up to me and one landed on my shoulder for s short moment all while I would hold the hummingbird feeder. the ruby throated humming bird males are my Favorite! Although there are lots of different colors of Humming Birds we would only get two species where my Aunt and Uncle lived.

Just checking in on your website, Martin and Susan. You both continue to amaze me…for the love, tenderness and compassion you have for all critters big and small! You should be blessed for all the help and care you continue to give them so they can survive. And then releasing them back to their wild, natural habitat. Anything with fur and feathers are well taken care of in your gentle hands! So glad you both are doing well too. I think of you both often and pray for your continue good health so you can keep doing your good work to help these critters. -Val C.

Goodness i melt every time i see a baby pigeon or dove, just friendly charismatic squeaky little food black holes XD i raised a few babies when i was abroad that were found by random folks in the city. One bonded too much to a friend of mine and decided she liked the house lifestyle and a few were rescues post surgeries but i miss every one.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this before but both myself and my husband really enjoyed your book, Healer of Angels, which we read when it first became available. When I lived in Tucson I saw so many beautiful hummingbirds. We have ruby throats up here in Delaware and I love watching them buzz around…they can be quite aggressive! Years ago I was at the Sonoran Desert Museum and must have come to close to a nest as one dive bombed me for my most of my visit to the hummingbird enclosure…followed me around diving periodically until I left. It was both funny and very touching to see such a tiny little being ferociously protect its young.
