They actually designed tandem-engine bombers like that one in Dino Research Compound and still do, but they were short-lived. The Island Hopper was modled off the Grumman Goose. These look like many real-life planes of the early 1900s.
I have both the number 1 and the number 2 spot and I have to say DESERVED spots ! They are so great. The island hopper always made it in my city too because it actually aged well. It still does not look that old
That tandem plane is actually kind of plausible. There are a few planes with twin cockpits, my favorite being the twin mustang. And the seats aren’t inside the engines, you can see the radial engines behind the propellers and in front of where the cockpit starts. As for the tail, I assume the slanted “chair” looking pieces are simply for structural integrity but some big bombers have dual stabilizers like it. I actually quite like this build after giving it a look over
And...cockpits inside the engines...? The engines are rotary. The twin fuselage airplane is actually kind of a breath of fresh air. I didn't like it a kid as it was too different, but I love the idea and execution now! This could have a been a fantastic stand alone set, with the proper care of course!
Heck yeah! That Desert theme plane was legit! It was my favorite growing up. I always added extra guns to the zeppelin and it would fight with the barons plane. Adventurers was all about violence
Those last two totally deserved their places. The details on all these planes are insanely accurate given the simple builds these things were. The blue twin engine is totally plausible, theres some planes with twin cockpits. The details of the radial cylinders are so on point. The folding wings are used for storage planes in a hangar. The last one is ashtonising, building actual cylinders inside the plane, covering them and putting the propellor lower instead of upper on the frontal, for there is where, by cylinder disposition, it would go. It's clear that designers used real planes as reference (gloster gladiator, fokker albatros, tiger moth, grumman goose,...). I'm considering getting that island hopper and "moc"ing it to give it more storage space and some wheels to land on airfield too. Great review! :D
Great video! It would be great to update it with the new set 60425 Jungle Explorer Water Plane and the 60437 Jungle Explorer Helicopter. I think they did a fantastic job modernizing the Adventurers theme, shifting from the tomb raiders that were popular in the '90s to scientific missions. Personally, my all-time favorite set is still the 5756 Expedition Balloon, which I got for my 10th birthday.
I can actually answer the licensed figures going flesh tone; it's because of Lando Calrissian from Star Wars. They made him brown, while everyone else remained yellow. It kinda squicked some people out because beforehad (barring a few themes' exceptions) lego figures were just people. They were yellow to be all inclusive. And probably making Lando yellow would have made things worse than making licensed characters "flesh tone."
