I forgot to tell you about my crayfish Safi! I still have her, but in the house, so that's why I forgot about her aquarium :p You didn't miss anything though, since she chops all plants I put in her tank, it's not a pretty tank to look at I will admit, it's just sand and a few decorations :( My weakness is non planted tanks, so things are really not optimal and maintenance is a chore, I will need to think of something else for her.. or maybe I'm just not made for keeping bare tanks :(
Your tutorial gave me the confidence to transition my bedroom tank into a crystal shrimp tank. I’ve seen plenty of baby shrimp (my neos are very busy) but I still did a happy dance when I saw my first caridina baby. And now I have more than I can count and I’m still thrilled.
HI Danny - OK WOW - all this time I've been watching your orchid channel and somehow missed each video that indicated you had a single fish let alone were a fishy person like me. Plants and fish - my 2 indoor joys along with sewing and any cats and dogs that might live with me from time to time. LOVED seeing all of your tanks and look forward to looking into your videos on this channel. I do appreciate the way you think about orchids and optimize your conditions and plant needs, so I'm sure to enjoy your way of thinking about your tanks too. Especially appreciate your comment about understanding your water chemistry. I've never had discus and looking forward to learning more about your set up someday. it has been a very long, hot and dry summer here in southwestern New Mexico (USA) and it looks like it is going to continue at least a few more weeks. I love your big shallow tank and your shrimp tank. I am glad you are feeling better and that the summer is starting to mellow out. Thank you for sharing...take good care of yourself.
I loved this video and seeing all your aquariums and fish and hearing your stories. oh, so sorry about your betta experience. I have experienced jumping bettas and it isn't fun to discover them out. So since then I have lids but there's always little spaces. So I tape the with invisible strong duct tape. No not pretty but I don't mind it because it's invisible tape. I guess some fish are not for everyone. I found that to be the experience with sparkling gouramis. You are SO lucky to be able to have them. They are so calming, the way they swim and they look like swimming spirits to me, their color sparkles and their shape. Mine all passed away. Not sure if it was a problem with how they came to me or if they got out competed for food. The fish I had them with were fast aggressive eaters and they are, or mine were slow eaters. I love your tanks and choices of fish. I love how you are so compassionate with your wet pets. Your tanks are decorated so nice...the shallow looks like a peaceful underwater garden, your own style. So many aquarists/aquascapers strive to make designs that seem so similar to me. The materials to use are all the same, wood, rocks, substrate...so it always stands out to me when someone can make an aquarium that is original. Then it represents something more than just another controlled aquascape design. Incidentally, I have a pair of Foerschi bettas....after 3 yrs...they mated and I didn't know it. However, there are 7 fry that made it without any special care. I want to find them homes but so many people don't know how to care for them and I feel so close to them I am picky about who may get them. So, I get it about breeding fish if a person has attachment to them. So ow I am getting another large aquarium for the growing fry as they can be together if the tank is large. Adventures in fishkeeping! I hope you continue your aquarium channel. I sure enjoy your videos. I first discovered your orchid channel which I love too. Congratulations on your success on youtube. I wish there were more women successful on youtube, in particular when it comes to fish keeping.
Hey nice video! Same for your tanks. Liking the black ram feature, surprised to hear your story about the male; I've not been able to keep a pair successfully as the males were always out-competed for food (up against widow tetras and / or mollies or his ram girl). Both electric blues and black "devils". I did get them to spawn once in my black water tank and they were always chasing the mollies off but the kuhli loaches got away with eating ALL the eggs. Based on that, I'd recommend against the combo. Same goes for plecos I guess. If and when my black mollies ... expire ... (I can't get rid of any fish neither) I'll get another male to keep just the pair of black rams together.
love this update! i love shallow tanks for sure. i'm currenlty setting up a 3 foot shallow tank aquascape with some emersed plants. The black rams look really pretty but too bad about it's aggressiveness. a local breeder said they are genetically weak though, i'm not 100% too sure about that. the sulawesi tank looks amazing! like your other video, i find they do better in smaller tanks, i had 100s in a 3.5 gallon tank before. i love discus, especially the wild brown colour type over the designer patterns. it's great you're rescuing some of those sick discus, keep up the great work and can't wait to watch your next video!
I'm so excited to see your experience with discus! I'm getting really close to being able to set up my big tank, and I've been trying to decide what to put in it. I keep going back to discus. I'm just so hesitant about it because of all the crazy care requirements people say they have. I wasn't aware that there are issues with keeping them in planted tanks. I'm going to have to look that up, because I too suck at not planted tanks. But ya know, I figured out how to keep my convict cichlid with plants, and most people say you can't do that. On a funny sidenote, I have a glass lid on one of my tanks that I use the same adhesive wall hook thing as a handle that you have on that one lid. Lol!
I think you are copying me. Obviously orchids but I started shrimp about a month before you and then discus about 9 months ago. As long as your water is not too hard you can keep discus. I do keep mine in high level of RO water. They become quite hardy once they get a bit bigger and feeding well
Separate your Sulawesi into several tanks. Most of us including me ignoring the fact that inbreeding causing infertility issue. You can't recover your shrimp population when it's already too late.
