Amazing. I've been reading Star Trek books for 30 years. Most of them are now in storage (there's a good few hundred) but this made me want to go and look at them all!
Love this! I just finished a rewatch of Voyager...not my fav ST but I'm excited to read Voyager Homecoming per your 'recommendation'. I felt somehow cheated at the final of the show so looking forward to both books (looks like a duology maybe?) Perfect timing to find out about this book. Thanks Jonathan!!
That's quite the impressive collection you got there, very cool. I'm personally not super interested in Star Trek books at the moment, but I do wish to get into it in the far future. Especially interested stuff by Christie Golden or Jackson Miller atleast.
I wanted to add something to what you said about one of the books. "Basically a western in Star Trek form." At least in the film world -- where I come from -- we never lump sci fi and fantasy together. Sci fi has far more in common with westerns than it does fantasy. A group of renegades set out to chivalrously defeat a quirky villain with an epic romantic arc between two of the characters, if you trade the horses for spaceships and the aliens for Indians and starfleet for cowboys the story wouldn't change at all.
I get the sense that you might like Star Trek a little… I never really got into it but I have seen the three modern films and played a couple of the video games. I also saw Wrath of Khan when I was a kid but I don’t remember anything other than I didn’t like it that much I’d like to check out some of the shows and older movies sometime but I haven’t gotten around to it. Do you think one can still enjoy the books even if they haven’t seen the shows and such, and if so where would be a good place to begin? I do have a pretty basic knowledge of the franchise, so I guess that’s a start
You might enjoy the books. I only had nominal knowledge when I started reading the books. That said you might be lost at the beginning though. So I would maybe focus on other original series instead and read Trek after you’ve watched the movies and some of the shows.
@@jonathankoan I’ll have to check it out, reading it currently. Quite liking it so far, the stuff in the jungle wasn’t something I expected from a Star Trek book 😂
My man, stop what you're doing and read Imzadi. That book has serious heart. (Part II is a giant letdown). Then after that, pick up Q-Squared, also by Peter David. I can't believe you don't have that one. I guess I'm old school.
