I saw Myrtle Fargate standing waiting for a bus on Madison Ave back in the Spring of 1982 when I was 18 years old. I said "Hi Myrtle" and she COMPLETELY acted like I didn't exist...
Perhaps it was not Myrtle Fargate but a lookalike? I once saw a guy that looked exactly like a guy I worked with and I said hi and his name and he ignored me. I said "Aren't you Joe Blankenship?" He said "No...I'm not." I always wondered if he just didn't want to admit to it, but they say we all have a double and I believe it!
I love seeing this clip because it has Myrtle on it and I still miss her, despite how she died almost a year ago in real life (and of course on the show). Myrtle was a Saint (along the lines of Stuart and Grandma Kate) and represented the best part of humankind (same with Kate and Stuart)
One of the main reasons why Dorothy Lyman didn’t return for Jenny’s wedding and funeral in 1984 was because the producers didn’t want her back. “Mama’s Family” was over and she was not wanted back. When Jill Larson was brought in to play Opal, Dorothy Lyman was pissed that they didn’t ask her back (“Mama’s Family” had been cancelled a second time and she was available). Rumor has it no one wanted to ever work with her again. It’s also said that the actress that played Jenny and Amanda were fired because of offset bad behavior.
AMC's younger set had its share of issues - but Kim Delaney definitely was not fired. The show even dragged out Jenny's time in a coma while ABC was negotiating to keep her. During ABC's Olympic coverage, when Hugh Downs cut back to the soaps (AMC, OLTL, GH reduced to 40 mins each, RH & Loving pre-empted), he delivered the teaser "will Jenny survive?" and then ad-libbed on-air "will Kim Delaney re-sign her contract?"
@@romanseano Kim was a hot acting commodity at that time. Later Jenny was fired from NYPD Blue supposedly for alcohol issues... She still looks pretty attractive...
Dorothy was great as Opal and was not replaceable by anyone (no offence to the actress who eventually did replace her)... How did she piss AMC off? She probably lied to them that she was going to renew her contract...
@@dquinn8344So…..what did she do after AMC in 1984? That’s not what Agnes Nixon said. Cocaine was so rampant on the set that she was asked to return to clean it up. The actor that played Greg was nearly fired, too, for booze probs. Bearse was fired immediately. According to the actor that played Cliff, Delaney was so high on cocaine one time she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Lyman was said to have constantly adlib lines and throw off her costars and everyone was very glad when she left. When “Mama’sFamily” was canceled from 1984 to 1986, she asked to rerun and was told NO.
