As always, thank you for your wonderful videos! I would love to see tutorials on the sketchbook paintings like others have mentioned. M my mother died two years ago, and we recently sold the family home. I have always used videos to paint, but through your instruction, I was able to paint a picture of the house to send to my sister who is unable to be here recently. That way she couldn’t keep the house with her always

Loved your video, Ellen. So interesting to see what supplies an artist uses. I love the Baohong 100% cotton paper, too - so rough it gives some nice dry-brush effects. I love your paintings in your sketchbook (though I only caught a glimpse of them). Can we have some tutorials of some of them?That would be lovely. I love how you keep it so simple. I've been using Windsor/Newton watercolor and I really would like to try the Holbein to compare -- just the 4 basic tubes! Thanks for sharing your true-to-you supplies. Happy New Year!

Ellen, I very often use Bahong --the acadamy is the student grade and the artist it the Professional grade--Personally, I cannot tell much of a difference between the the two so I usually buy the acadamy. Great paper! I also love Arches and Saunders but they are so expensive to use every day. Love your videos. Thanks, Tina

A simple swatch sheet that fits inside the pallette lid is really useful, I do that, its fast and I do that for palettes I buy and the ones i make. I like colours in a certain order so it works for me, I cant cope with colours scattered around, so I have to group blues together, yellows together, browns etc 😅 as they look so similar, my little swatch strip is essential for me.

I was lucky and received some lovely quality paints and brushes last year for Christmas… this year I requested some Daniel smith paints and a couple of blocks of really nice paper. I’m happy!

Thank you Ellen. I think I get overwhelmed because I have so many tubes and pans of water colors. I have a lot of pallets also. I dont throw my paints away until they look muddy. As a result I have so many around the house!

Arches is my very favorite paper, gives me time to work as the paint doesn't soak in too fast. Works great for wet on wet! My favorite brushes are the Neptune series, they soak up and hold on to paint so well that I'm not wasting time going back to get more paint. And they keep their nice pointy tips.

Thank you, Ellen. I use many of the supplies you show. I have some of the Liquitex inks and just got the Hydrus but haven't tried them yet. You've maybe done a video on this already but I'd love to know the differences and pros/cons of using acrylic inks vs. watercolor inks in watercolor pieces. I wonder if Princeton changed their Aqua Elite travel brush set? I bought a travel set a few months ago and the brushes in mine are 4 / 6 / 8 / 10. The 8 is my “go to”! Princeton are my favourite brushes, but I do like the Escoda synthetic brushes, the Prado line has the firmness I like. That large palette is gorgeous! ❤

Great to hear your favourites list - thank you for sharing - I already have a Holbein watercolour set after watching you use it some time ago. I have checked out Amazon for the Tumarta sketchbook and there are several available so I would be grateful if you could clarify if yours is the 100% cotton sketchbook or the square 25% cotton version? You are a shining example of how one person can make a positive difference to the life of so many! Hahnemühle (the Collection) is really excellent paper. I got it as part of a sample pack and it rivals Arches. QUESTION - Many artists, like you and Paul Clark, use Cadmium Yellow. Tradition watercolor discourages the use of opaque colors. Have you tried Hansa or Aureolin and preferred Cadmium? The cadmiums seems to lift easily, so I find it difficult to layer and glaze, although I tend to overwork.

I appreciate this video! Especially the list of minimum paints you need to accomplish good work. Those colors that you recommend for watercolor, would you recommend the same colors for gouache? I have recently started gouache and do seem to prefer Holbein brand paint. I bought a couple of colors from Maimeri but I think Holbein is much better. I think I'm going to keep my gouache paints to a minimum. I bought way to many convenience colors for watercolor and never really learned to mix colors well.

@@ShannonLeighh1 yes, I have a swatch sheet. I will definately need another one because it is the one that was in the box with colour numbers/order on proper watercolour paper, but if you rotate it then you cannot find which direction are the greens in the paint box and where blues start. LOL.

I don’t like them personally and if u watch world wide award winning artists they really don’t use them either like Joesph zubrick , eudes corriea , Michael solovyev etc maybe if you do calligraphy they make sense?

Ellen, here’s my Question: have you heard complaints about Arches paper ? I have heard that the original company was sold to another and that there are complaints about the sizing on the paper or other quality concerns that are popping up since the sale?

Quick question: I have painted many of your online tutorials and have quite a collection. I want to DONATE them to my local "Assistance League" store. This store only takes donated items and then sells them at a very discounted price. All the proceeds from any sales from this store go to worthy charities in my community. Is it okay to donate a painting that I made from one of your tutorials? I would write on the back of it "Painted by Jean/Original Artist Design by Ellen Crimi Trent." I finally took the plunge and bought some Arches. The stink! Smells of seaweed or wee or something. Can’t use the stuff. Is that all 100% cotton papers or just Arches do you know?

Why don’t you make a little swatch sheet so you don’t have to guess the colors in your palette? Or at least recommend it to beginners since it is extremely helpful to know exactly what is what and to see how they look dry on paper until they get used to it?
