Both stunning bikes, I'd be happy with either, but having an emtb already I struggle to see how I'd ever go back to an analogue bike. Like most people I told myself I'd still ride my analogue after getting my emtb .... you just won't touch it. 🤷🏻♂️ Emtb every time.
As a bigger rider with 25 yrs experience , I researched the heck out of the ebikes for the last 8-9 months....I knew it would be a good choice for me and my very hilly local trails. I was fortunate to find a Trek Rail at a nearby shop and love it.! I had a very nice Santa Cruz Hightower trail bike that did everything well, however the Rail not only does everything well, it’s opened up my local trails to where I’m able to ride way more of the fun techy climbs and descents in a much shorter amount of time and also do some exploring without the concern of making a steep climb or conserving energy for the return trip home. So I can do nice big 20 mile ride with 4K of climbing and come home after and be able to take my daughter out for a ride on the trails as well. I can even help give her a boost up some of the steeper trails which improves the fun factor for her as well. So for capabilities, fun factor and time savings it’s no contest. The EMTB wins out !! Climbing and Smiling....what a Concept!
Great have a bunch of solid camaraderie - Neil and Steve are impressive riders and seem like all around great guys. though - I would surely like to hear Neil singing on 'Hacks and Bodges."
@@TheMeta6 oh thanks. I did wonder as it had the FoD "look" .. I only know the official and downhill trails. Guessing there's a lot more throughout the forest.
I've ridden a Giant Fathom 1 for the last year, other hardtails prior to this. Really struggle to keep anywhere near my riding mates on their Levo Expert and Cube Stereo hybrid. Deposit down on a Trek trail 7. Only 5 weeks until it arrives and I cannot wait. I'm 47 and feel like an 8 year old at Christmas 😁
I just went for the META TR and I absolutely love it. It's such a fun bike to ride. In a few years, when I will need that hip replacement, I might as well switch to the E-Bike version. Looks like just as much fun.
It would be interesting to see an energy or calorie consumption comparison for the riders. I know you still get a workout, elevated heart rate, breathing hard etc on the emtb, but it would be interesting to see what the difference in the actual workout is.
Same as anything like this. You can go as hard as you want on either. MtB you can totally shuttle up and just ride down or ride up and down and ebikes you can do the same or put in turbo and take it easy or keep in eco and still ride as hard up steeper more technical climbs. It totally depends what you want. Many pro CXMtB riders use ebikes to train because of this very thing. They get to practice more technical skills get just as hard a work out or on the days they are going for a easy ride they find it even easier to keep their heart rate low and, at a stead state which is apparently very handy and important. It means when they do come to a climb on the easy ride day they can turn up the power to get up it keeping the heart rate level. Let's face it its hard to find a long enough ride that's totally flat so you can ride it totally at same watts so the ebikes solve this issue.
Yes you can put the same effort in on an ebike, but the sustained effort on regular bike would be longer if it takes you longer to climb the same hill - for what that's worth
@@Will99x yhea it's just quicker if you work as hard as you would on a traditional MtB or yes you can be lazy if you want. The pros seem to love the fact that it's far easier to sustain a level Wattage or heart rate no matter the terrain. Obviously you can still work as hard otherwise the CX riders wouldn't use them other than on easy days. Their biggest benefit though is obviously to DH riders who now ride back up, get more runs and to practise their bike handling and are probably not having to go out on a road bike or some other exercise to get the fitness as much as they are riding back up the trails.
I'm looking for a mountain bike now to do trail riding, moving from road bike. For me it's now almost certainly going to be an e mountain bike because you can do and see so much more in a day without having pro rider fitness.
Watch the descents...I've seen riders get up to trail heads that have left them out of Thier depth... you won't regret it.. mine was the best cycle I've bought. And the list is long...have fun..how could you not
Just moved over to an e bike and I'm doing so many different types of riding now I have just done the w2 at afan which I would never have attempted on a normal mtb completed it in eco mode so still getting a workout Would be good to know where the trails are that are in some of the videos
finally some commencal love! did you find the compression damping on the emtb spec fox 38 woefully inadequate for drops? & rebound adjustment range way too slow?
My Meta Power SX Race arrived today and I've already put 34km and 600m of climbing on it. I plan on doing a whole lot more over the weekend. Stoked with it. I still have my full carbon Stumjumper for those days when I want a nimble, playful bike and now I have a monster truck Ebike for when I want to go fast, do crazy climbs or just squeeze in a few more laps. That 25km/h limit must be annoying as heck. In NZ it's 32km/h and even that feels restricting sometimes. I can understand that you wouldn't want a novice riding at 40km/h but for an experienced mountain biker, it's easy. Hopefully they change the law to 40km/h at some point in the future.
I'm sticking with the ebike/etc. With a huge battery and bigger rear tire. The huge battery will come in handy. I used my ebike battery to charge my smartphone. When the electricity went off here in Texas. Brrrrrr. Probably would have lasted a couple weeks. Cheers
I just got an E bike and think well after 33 years on the trails with an MTB I can still ride and explore places easier and still keep cycling rather than sit home sulking because it all became too hard for me. Yes that is right I got my first MTB in 1988, WoW before the internet ancient .
Many people seem to be put off Emtb because of a fear they may enjoy it more. Well, spoiler alert, you will! I spent many years racing bmx and mtb and I’m not going back to acoustic. Emtb for life. They’re amazing.
Pointless comparison. E Bike is faster uphill - what a surprise, who would have expected this? Maybe the next comparison should be E-Bike vs KTM300EXC.
Cool that's my local woods!! Those are some rowdy descents well above my skill level. Don't want to be a hater but on climb 1 you should not of been riding as it is a historic tramway did you not see the no cycling signs?
The take away ebike puts old fella smiles ahead of fit young lad in denial ;-) The argument is kind of mute if you want to ride all day everywhere your heart fancies emtb. If you want to go home early spend half the time recovering and pushing you bike up then MTB. I still ride a MTB (emtb on order) lets face it you probably spend more time MTB'ing in the same time frame with an emtb than mtb. My less fit mate might even make a full afternoon riding without looking like he's been water boarded. I think a 30day elevation change emtb vs mtb would be interesting. Each day having to complete X distance with X elevation something moderately challenging, with a blog style insight before/after each ride. Maybe a sports scientist to give you a data on rider fittness/heath/immunity progression.
I just purchased an Aspen+ NCM after riding a $400 mainstream MTB for the past 15 years. I will need to ride it more, but so far would say that regular bikes are a thing of the past.
For the price of one ultra premium carbon "dentist bike" I've slowly collected 3 alloy bikes. Trail bike for riding with friends, an eMTB for personal adventures where a motor could help me have more fun with less effort and a DH bike for park stuff.
@@TheMeta6 Thats because you are ignorant. I can’t help you with that I’m afraid. Aluminium is heavier, not as stiff and has a much shorter fatigue life. Aluminium work hardens and cracks. It also oxidises when the lacquer flakes off. If you want to advocate for a heavier and weaker material then fair enough!
@@turbolevo8703 you've really been sucking in the marketing bs haven't you! Most aluminium frame fatigue is caused by poor welding process or poor frame design not the fault if the material itself. Saying it's heavier and not as stiff is kind of a pointless statement. If you're taking about a single bar of the two materials you have a point but if your talking frame it's more down to design and application. Why do you think you need a stiffer lighter bike?... does it improve your ability?... make you faster?... make it more fun to ride?.... or does it just make you feel better because it's "superior"!
Thank you for all your great videos. I have kind of a weird question. I have a heart condition and I used to ride bike occasionally, but was semi active in other things as well. But it's been quite a few years now and I have a heart condition that makes things more difficult. I keep wanting to find something physical that I actually want to do, and riding bike is something that I keep thinking of. the problem that I run into is that the less expensive bikes which seem to be kind of cheap and junkie have a throttle that allows me to not have to pedal if I get too tired. While the good quality bikes all seem to use pedal input which I worry could be a problem if I hit a hill that was a little too hard, although the steepest hills that I try and climb would not be that steep. So my question is, do you know of a high quality bike from a reputable brand that also has a throttle separate from the pedal input? There are so many brands out there and it's so confusing because many of the components seem to be in-house brands or odd brands, so I just don't know if any of them are decent or not. Most of my riding would be packed gravel roads and Street with an occasional trail. The trails would be fairly easy but may have a fairly steep Short Hill or something of that nature. I don't plan on catching big air or running down the side of a mountain at 100 miles an hour. Anyway sorry about the long question, but you guys seem to really know your stuff and I enjoy watching so I value your input. Thanks again in advance and blessings...
Hiya mate I'm not a presenter but do ride an e bike haibike Bosch motor no throttle but would suggest you try a specialized levo or any other good quality e bike. I'm 58 and ride in eco setting most of the time however in your situation just turn the power up when you need to. I have friends that ride in the higher modes it's really easy especially on the levo because you can tune it via an app on your phone. Hope that helps .
🤦♂️ you are joking ??? To get the best out of Emtb's ride with fellow " EXPERIENCED " Emtb's You will have all the exercise you'll need & more but mainly have way more fun than any vintage days.
I can see next to no reason to go MTB except cost, and a very slight edge in agility. A decent MTB is expensive anyhow, and is now obsolete so might as well just go EMTB.
Just got my specialized turbo kenevo today and also the 1st time I've been on an ebike in all honesty I was blown away strait away the adventure becomes so big for me I was a bit no no for years but these things are the future!! I know it's a lot of coin to own one but this is the next generation of mtb!!
Just got myself a new MTB after EMTB. Reason is simle - you can get a way better bike for your money. It is not even possible to get an EMTB for a price of a great trail mtb
@@sergeikulichkov7748 Same, if not better spec. The difference is it is not from an established brand, and I ordered it warehouse direct so I had to build it myself. No skin off my teeth. I actually prefer it like that. NCM Aspen+
Sometimes I feel it just be easier if you say that you do reviews as opposed to saying that you don't? Absolutely, not a criticism, just think it would be easier especially as it's a paid promotion? Love the channel and the team, keep up the great work! 🏴❤️🏴
This isn't a review, just an overview of the features of each bike. With a few challenges to see how they fare against each other! Thanks for the kind words, more great content to come! 🤘
I would love a ebike but I'm kind of an eco warrior.....I'm sure how environmentally friendly the batteries are to recycle or the precious metals needed to make them ie some of the metals can only be found in some parts of Africa and the mining industry is pretty destructive. I go to the Alps and use Gondolas and uplifts in the UK so I'm not totally innocent myself.
Antique..hmmm ..one of the best fitting bikes I ever owned was a 19 inch tange prestige muddy fox..I think it was the first company to import into the UK ...funny old world isn't it.....all this time later and sizing has become so complicated to the layman it's a joke...I ride a haibike and with their unconventional sizing I was lucky to get as close a fit as I did... and it's a large outlay so I'd say don't leave it to chance but it still doesn't fit like that old muddy 🦊..they were good old bikes.. it's not the age of the bike it's the fit of the bike that makes it fast imo
The biggest difference is that you don't have to be a well trained ciclist to enjoy challenging rides, mainly because you never get to the point where you can't do more, the only limit is the battery, is less anaerobic so you can ride and enjoy more!!
BOOOOOO, I've decided i really dont like this channel anymore. Won't be watching it again. Its one thing promoting ebikes its another just insulting everything else, promoting devision. I reckon Jones would struggle on an antique
I, as an owner of Levo 2021 can tell You what a MTB can do that EMTB cannot... Bikepacking. I am sorry but for long rides and in number of days without civilization an EMTB is as useful as a bat shit when trying to make a dinner. 🤟🏻😅
One thing I noticed. When you have the power off. And are pedaling. Why isn't there a option to charge the battery ? With a small generator. It's not rocket science.
It would add drag and cost. All for the 3 people, who would use it it once every 6 months. Plus it would take so long to put a meaningful charge in .............
