Honda is straight up selling the best stock setup in a motorcycle period! The thing is a blank slate for modders and tuners, a well rounded commuter for those wanting to keep it stock as well as a nice and even better beginner/intermediate bike for riders wanting to refine their skills and have fun ! All in all an excellent investment!
Neet You didn't mention a huge improvement, the replaceable oil filter. I considered that and the 5th gear the two most compelling reasons to buy this new model. 1
This grom looks actually sick. I never had a motorbike, but I always wanted a grom. Could treat this so good and I love how it looks. Nice small and fast when you need it to be
@Arturo Altamirano Oh it ain't quick even when you need it to be, but it is nimble and easy to ride. Yes, it's great for in town short commutes. Could even be good for 55mph roads to and from school/work.
Honda for 2022: The CRF300L looses the removable subframe and the Grom gets a removable subframe. Interesting. Really cool that Honda has been taking some of our feed back!
I have to say I like the previous gen better. If I was the designer of that bike I was just took a previous generation and put a 5 speed transmission And give it a bigger bore to a 150cc from the factory.
I love the look but hot damn its so annoying how many people don't give it a chance, I think it looks great! I adore the looks of the SF but I like how they gave it a slight throwback to the OG's clean look
Looks wise i liked the old seat better but I’ve never sat on one so whichever is more comfortable is what I’d want. I just think the old style looks better. The digital dash, 5th gear, and replaceable oil filter I think are the biggest improvements
Prefer the “sporty” look of the last gen Grom. New one has an “ADV” look. What’s with the giant body bolts?? I think they should have made an “ADV” style as well as a “sport” style. Give the ADV version some knobbies, less body work, and a little more suspension, give the sport model some grippy rubber and more fairings.
The giant body bolts are there so it’s super easy and super accessible to take the panels off to change them out or customize them. They made it super easy for people to customize it, as that’s one of the huge things that the grom is known for.
@@rocket5551 I think I’m going to have to disagree with you there, I personally really like the new look. Im huge into modding the grom and the new grom just takes it and puts it on to a whole new level. But alas it just depends on what people like or don’t like, I happen to like the new grom because of how different and how much better it is this time around. I wasn’t a huge fan of last gen so I’m glad they changed it up a bit, especially the headlight, I hated the last gen ones.
New one does not have the "ADV" look - it has the "fugly" look instead. The designer of that new look shoot be shoot in the head - that's how bad he done his job.
Honda has always followed the aftermarket closely and responds well. That is quite evident in the new seat, clutch cover, and 5 speed. Of course, those are the easiest and most cost effective to make to a production unit. It's not like we're going to see Ohlins level quality suspension any time soon, but then, that would be a major price jump.
@@TSTindustries Fender deletes are nothing more than a cosmetic thing and a waste of money. Now, you’ll have mud and/or muddy water splashing up onto your back/neck.
@@TSTindustries Yeah, and idiots will continue to do idiotic things. 🤷♂️ Just because you sell "thousands of them” doesn’t mean that they are a great aftermarket accessory to buy for your bike. Thousands of people buy Toyota Priuses to car camp 🏕 in, but that doesn’t mean it’s not idiotic to do so.
@@travelinman482 I think the important thing to remember is that it's your opinion. No one is forcing you to get rid of your OEM fender. We're simply providing options for people who want them.
So close. So so close. I bought a 2016 new and ended up selling it and always regretted doing that. But what I can not fathom is this whole HEAP of 125cc Honda's. Like whyyyyyyyy couldn't ALL of those models been a 4 valve 150cc 5 speed and been able to hold an honest 60 MPH even up slight hills. It just boggles my mind! Kymco Spade 150 still has my vote.
Bart rides his in the dirt with knobbies on. It really is a versatile bike, and all the replacement parts are super cheap so you just go nuts and not worry about anything.
My daily is a 1290 SAR and my weekend/track bike is an XR650R supermotard, and I want one of these more than any other bike currently for sale. I live in a dense urban environment, so scooter size machines are like go carts around the city. The stuff you can do downtown on one is borderline bicycle.
Nice video! Close to having one to fab some parts for it. I would like some blinkers for handle bar ends , but maybe with different attachments (rubber plug style expanders some use to keep them in bars like the universal freeze plugs have ) so buyers can add to stock or fat bars. Reason I want blinkers some where else is because I want to mount some extra l.e.d head lamps where the blinkers usually mount, but mainly to have something different. Thx.
What tires do you have on that older model and, will they work on the 2022? Do you have to do any modifications to fit those tires on a grom? New rider here.
We love our OG's glad to see Honda going back to the flat seat and nice to see the engine evolve with a proper filter and 5th gear. Hope this finds its way into the monkeys as well.
I would like a comparison of the transmission, such how much toque it has to put up wheelie stock (preferably with out the clutch) and top speed (also maybe how much of balance of the bike has change from the new wheel base length)
my local dealer has a 20 sitting on the floor ready to go and it is so tempting to ride it out the door but I like the look of the 22. I also like the 5th gear and replaceable oil filter. I'm first in line for ABS version which to my dismay is not projected to ship till May 28th. Only thing to do is contemplate all the changes I want. Just getting back into riding after 10 Year layoff.
6'4" might or might not have been too large for the SF, but you'll have to go to a dealer to really find out for the 2022 model; almost no one has ridden one in the US yet.
If I can get it to cruise at 60 with minor mods, I’ll be happy. I’m second in line for the white one at my dealer and it’ll be here in July. Other colors and the first white one their getting will be here in May
I'm sorry but the new one is ugly. Not a fan at all of going back to the big bulky looking headlight. SF is so much cleaner and modern. New 2022 looks old but not in a good way and those different colors on the body that highlight the frame... Just, why?... Only good thing is the updated dash and 5 speed (I guess?)
I'd like to think once you see one in person, you may change your mind but either way, to each their own! We remember when the SF grom released a lot of OG owners hated it so it will be interesting to see how this one grows onto people, if at all.
@@TSTindustries very true, and I don't knock anyone for liking it! Everyone has different tastes. I'm just happy Honda is still supporting the platform and we have a newer, overall I'm sure better, Grom
Since you have both bikes in front of you... Can you tell if the fork and shock are unchanged? I have my 2022 ordered and I want to order suspension parts ahead of time. Would be great to have parts waiting for the bike to arrive. I haven't even seen fiche available out there yet on the 22 to compare part numbers.
DOOOOOOO ITTTTYT! Holy cow, the front is still a pogo stick for a 7 year old. I barely hand bounced the front from below on a lift almost to the bottom stop. Shock seems a bit better but yhe front has no spring or damping.
@@TSTindustries Any chance you have a link where i might be able to buy a red fairing kit? i know its a long shot. I've been looking for hours and am having no luck at all. at this point im just thinking of having the fairing painted lol
I love these lil bikes seen a few on the streets here in Miami I always thought about getting one but these non drivers here got me thinking twice tho 😒
There are a few big Grom groups in South Florida so be sure to check them out. There are power in numbers and I'm sure you will feel a lot more comfortable riding with a handful of other minibikes. We're in Central Florida so we totally get it!
The city streets? Absolutely. It gets a little sketchy on bigger roads but it can handle anything else with ease. Check out a bike night at Steady Garage or Drowsports and see the mobs of minbikes they have riding around.
I wonder if this has the same cylinder head as the old model? For intake purposes.. Trying to go ahead and get a parts list together and might order an intake so I'll have it once this baby arrives in my living room!
I just don’t get why, when overhauling the engine they didn’t make it a 150cc for the rest of the world and a 125 for Europe like they do with all manner of small bikes
From a mass manufacturing standpoint, they probably wanted to repurpose the same motor as much as possible. Sure, they have a 150 motor that they can put in the Grom but I think they want to reuse the 125cc motor as much as possible. It's fairly bulletproof and a perfect size to avoid needing different motors for different regions of the world.
@@TSTindustries it’s really common though. Even Honda do it with the PCX. All they do is use the same bottom end and use a different top end for Europe and the rest of the world. It’s financially viable as so many bikes already do it, largely thanks to the popularity of 150’s in Asia and the legal requirements for 125’s In Europe. Unfortunately I think the reason is as simple as it sells well enough, so why bother making something better? It’s kinda the same as the pricing on the ct125 here in Australia: ‘people will probably pay that because it’s cute’ rather than their being any logical reason a ct125 should share a price bracket with the crf250l lol
125cc and below requires a different kind of license in many countries. I think they are staying true to certain market demographics to have the broadest available audience.
Looks awful what was Honda thinking what a mess I have a 2018 and absolutely love it. I would upgrade if they didn’t totally mess up the look. I’m sure they will update this mess and everyone will then come out and say what a disaster it really is.
Eh, I think it will grow on many people once they release. The same was said about the SF Grom when it initially released and the 2015+ R1 when it was announced. Only time will tell.
Dose not look good, the minute I saw this I asked the dealer to supply me with the previous model! Thank god he did, a removable oil filter won’t make this bike any more reliable, its a Honda end of and a fifth gear that will take you all day to get into pointless! If you want 5,6 or more gears take my advice 600cc minimum.
