I'm an avid oasis user, but the oasis isn't the greatest device to use for travel. So I caved, and I bought the new basic. It's a very great device. The matcha color is gorgeous! It's definitely more comfortable to hold for longer periods of time vs the oasis, and I love the portability aspect. I really do wish it was waterproof and offered the warm light setting. Other than that, I think it's a great device, especially for those who have busy lives. It fits perfectly in any bag, and I don't fear it breaking or getting lost nearly as much as I would with my precious oasis 😂 Another great review!!
This is just what I needed to see!! I’m obsessed with my oasis but it’s not super convenient travel wise so my wife and I were thinking of getting matching basics! I was just trying to justify that it’s okay to have two kindles lol
I had to return it and stay with my 10th gen sage colored paperwhite it’s also small but it’s waterproof….. this basic is beautiful though the green is EVERYTHING!
I'm a Kindle nerd so I bought the new matcha basic Kindle and it's not really worth the upgrade. The screen does look a little crisper but it's not very noticeable and the color is nice, the denim seems a little harsh compared to the softer matcha but I regret my purchase a little. My denim Kindle will go to a family member who will hopefully be able to enjoy it for several years.
Another great review as always. I have the Paperwhite 5, Paperwhite 4, Paperwhite 3 and the 2022 Kindle Basic in the Denim Blue color. I love all of them and they are all in excellent like New condition. I will most likely purchase this 2024 Basic Kindle during the Black Friday sale on Amazon because I love the color.
Great review, Dylan. :) I think you make a great case for getting a kindle Basic if you don't have an e-reader at all. I think the case for *upgrading* the Kindle Basic is a lot harder to make, though. I just don't see a lot of significant updates here. If I had a Basic from 2022, I would probably move up to the Paperwhite instead of getting the Basic.
I've always wanted the "basic" because of its size. I also like that the bezels aren't flush. However the fact it doesn't have warm light is a deal breaker for me. The main reason I upgraded from my 2019 kindle pw to the 2022 kindle pw was for the warm light setting. I wish they could give the basic the warm light feature.. Every other "basic" ereader offers it. Not to mention the price point on the color had me reeling. Kobo's line is only a $10 difference between their bw and color models...
Wanting the form factor of the kindle basic with warm light was why I switched to Kobo’s Clara models a few years ago and I’ve never looked back. Nothing beats the portability and comfort of a 6 inch device with warm light.
@@thebaldconvict I guess that is true. What happened to giving the people what they want? I'll be looking at Kobo once my kindle gives up the ghost.. Also, you can look up how to download your Kindle books to Kobo through Calibre
I love 6 inch e-readers because they are easy for me to hold. Even the Kindle paperwhite is a bit too big for my hands. I have a Kobo Clara 2E and I really like it, but it can be a bit slow at times, especially in the menus. I would definitely consider switching to a Kindle basic if something happens to my Kobo.
Last year I bought previous Kindke Basic model with the type c usb. I went with refurbished, which is supposed to have few scratches and the ads on the lock screen. It turns out I got the Kindle in almost mint condition. Not a single scratch nor there are ads on the lock screen, which I miss somehow from my previous Kindle, and I paid around 50$ for it. I'd agree with you, only if you have money to spend and you want to upgrade to the newer model, go for it. Otherwise it's a money waste.
I traded my 2022 one in for this one and love it. I know both are 300ppi, but the display on this one seems crisper to me. And the matcha color is beautiful.
I think 'full refresh on very page turn' option is on in your Kindle 2022. My kindle does a full refresh after every 20 pages or so. Otherwise normal page turn works similar to Kindle 2024.
i just wish the paperwhite or signature was the one that came in the all matte matcha colour because they have better features but damn this aesthetic is unmatched! i love the matcha green front so much 🥹
im really thinking of getting this one as my first ereader, does anyone knows if the cases for the old kindle basic will fit this one? because still cant find any meant specifically for the 2024 ver
Can you update the kindle basic 2022 to the new software update and then do a side by side speed comparison? They aren’t pushing the update out over WiFi right now from what I can see you have to physically connect to a computer and update.
Oasis forever. lol. I'm really like smaller kindles and I have a basic but I do miss the warm light option on it. But it's my go to outdoor or camping kindle.
Hi Dylan! I have a question can you transfer your Kindle bought books to your Kobo Libra Colour ereader? I am hearing conflicting rumors that it won’t work with any of the new 12th generation Kindles. I also head it is a kink that Amazon is working on to get fixed. This is why I am only trading in my 9 month old Signature Paperwhite 11th generation model. I am holding onto my Kindle Oasis 10th generation for this reason, plus I love my OASIS page turning buttons…lol I know you have a Kobo Libra thought you could give it a go and let me know if your new serial number works to transfer bought books on calibre to transfer Kindle books to your Kobo Libra Colour ereader. Got mine a few days ago love it love this size the 7 is too big for me.notice the screen brightness too sadly they havent put yha animated page turn on it loved that always had mine on with other kindles faster page turn is vool but at times which is annoying the page turns twice.
I have had the paper white for years but am considering getting this for the smaller screen. I sometimes get hand fatigue holding the paper white for long periods. Wondering how much I would miss the warm light feature… 😅
I have kindle paper white 2019, I like the size and weight but don’t like the page turn speed. Do you think kindle 2024 page turn speed faster than kindle paper white 2019? I love the matcha color and don’t care about waterproof or warm light, so I can’t decide either go for this one or new paper white which page turn speed seems faster. But then it’s big and doesn’t have matcha color…😢Does this plastic frame in front require more cleaning than paper white flat screen?
That’s tough. I’d say it depends on the type of content you read. If you read stuff that has a lot of color I’d definitely go with the kobo color. If you primarily read novels I’d go with the kindle. There’s something about the kobo screen that seems to strain my eyes so the overall experience isn’t quite as nice as reading on a kindle, in my opinion
Nope at this price point it should have warm light I don’t think it’s good value it’s been priced and made this way to upsell customers into purchasing the paperwhite.
