I had one, too. Mine had the 2.0 liter with the 4-speed manual. Shifter came off while shifting one day on my way home from work. Luckily I had a pair of vise grips in the trunk. There was just enough shaft left to attach the vise grips to and was able to shift for a couple of days until I got it fixed.

Mine was a '71 2.0 engine/auto. One of the first 10% of the first year, so it had drum brakes all around. Gave it away with 188k on it.

Yeah, sounds like an April Fool's thing. Someone at Ford would have to be on heavy drugs to resurrect the Pinto name. The way the exhaust exists suggests mid-engine. So, a mid-engine sports car that starts at 20K. Right. For 2026, a perpetual motion powered econo box is in the works and it will be called the Edsel.

@@user-ee8uy3dd5u I used to own a 1977 Pinto wagon. Not safe whatsoever. Gas tank was directly behind the bumper. A rear end collision on my car would have been fatal. Luckily that didn't happen to me, and I sold the car in in 1993. I have seen documentaries on the Ford Pinto. I know it's not the only car to have that problem, but it was well documented. That is why Ford discontinued making them. As for a number... call Ford and ask them.

Real or not I would take that Pinto design over the Mustang. Believe me I haven't had a true Ford since the 1963 Ford Falcon I owned in 1991. Now if I could get me a snappy little redhead who can twirl with one of those Pintos I would be back in high school again.

I had a 74 Pinto while living in Germany. It was considered a midsize car. Thing was bigger than a lot of other cars on the road, but could not keep up with them.

My first car was a 73 pinto with W German made 2.0L and England made 4 Spd manual transmission. Fun car. I raced a chevette with it chevette was losing parts I backed off before they blew it up. Speedometer said 125mph on it I was pushing the needle up 95mph. LoL Pinto held up don't know about the chevette? Surprised Pinto know wonder drag cars made out of them. Engine bay cavernous some pintos came with a V6 could hold a V8. Pinto a underated car. I put a RPM gauge on it one time working at a auto parts store coworker asked me to rev the engine didn't go far over 2000 rpms he laughed but it got approach 95mph+. German made engine Ford.

Geese! Sure as hell hope the didn’t install the gas tank in the rear. I was working in Winamac, Indiana during the infamous Pinto trial. That being said THAT is one hell of a good looking car!

Ford is actually thinking of building this, I am just afraid that they are going to muck it up by the time it reaches production. It will a much tamer version of this concept, will also be offered as a 4 door and not offer a gas version.

Pinto was a economical car both in price and use. Turning it into a high price muscle car won't work, Ford has the Mustang for that. They should stick with building a car the masses can afford (cheap) with options instead of having all the bells and whistles. Leave out the if hit in rear the car will explode option. I was around when the Pinto came out and liked the car and was ready to buy one when the rear thing happened, just didn't want to burn to death.

Why not, they put the Maverick name on a compact 4 door truck, and look at what they did with our beloved Bronco. But that concept wouldn't be able to come in under 40K, if not more. But I will tell you that the original Pinto was one of the best handling cars Ford ever came out with and the engine was easy to modify, fun car as long as you didn't get rear ended.

A Pinto Super Car in a Ford GT Supercars body. Please tell me why Ford would build this car. Why not reintroduce the recently discontinued Ford GT Supercar. Their current development sports car are the regular Dark Horse Mustang. The Dark Horse R used in their new IMSA Dark Horse Mustang challenge series. The Dark Horse IMSA GT3, and the upcoming Dark Horse GTD Supercar. I don't recall a Ford Pinto Super being talked about

It is a beautiful car, but Ford and turbos don't go together. I owned a Ford with a turbo and it was pure junk, I had the turbo replaced 9 times in a 13 month period of time and then they canceled the warranty and said that I have to pay for the next turbo, it was a piece of trash. Besides it looks like a Ford GT with a Porsche front nose.

It looks like an affordable GT40, so what they need to do is to go back to the drawing board and make a vehicle that's more practical, because this design isn't the pinto that I knew
