Nice review. I received the update 3 days ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I have a Subaru Outback Touring XT with the 12.9" screen and the layout works well for me. I had not explored it fully yet so your demo was enlightening. I am very pleased with the new version of android auto 👍
Nice change, but it really needs to allow the user to put anything they want in the smaller right window instead of it being just for music. I want to have the weather, calendar or any other app there instead.
Thank you so much for this video. I am enjoying the coolwalk feature in my Q5 too. Finally Google done it in a best way. But because mine is not a touch screen it's a little confusing to navigate the features but that ok as it is new and we are still learning.
I didn't do anything, and 3 days ago I noticed the screen in the car was different. I don't want a nav screen on if I don't NEED IT. I was able to get it removed, and the music playing screen back to full screen.
Great video, but one suggestion. When demonstrating google search or navigation, please silence that part in your video as you command "hey google" etc. My kitchen google home unit was quick to respond to your inquiry. Otherwise, great work!
Version 8.8.x is what I have, and it also looks like this. Couldn't really tell what 8.9 changed, if any. Probably just performance. I think it works a lot more smoothly than before in my Stinger. I wish that the timer count for music and audiobooks still displayed when the car is smaller on the right. There's clearly enough space for such information.
I have a 2023 X5 xDrive40i and normally use the BMW navigation system because I couldn't figure out how to get rid of Reuters News from the second screen of Google Maps. I didn't know it was as simple as tapping the Google Maps icon again. This video was worth it just for that tip. I still don't know why I'd use Google Maps through Android Auto instead of BMW navigation.
Very frustrating update. Can't resize anything. Swipe something away and have no idea how to get it back. The weather is now missing from the Google map. Can't figure out how to put anything else in the windows. Nothing in the settings helps. How do I choose what I want in the windows?
While Maps is a superior app, I find Waze's traffic and road warnings invaluable, particularly the road hazards. Maybe since they are now one team they can incorporate this feature.
Challenge for me is that i want to hear my USB songs while using Android Auto. Somehow while using Android Auto, i only see Android playlist of my mobile. Any way to access Car usb drive within Android Auto?
Great video and it's mation what I want to know is somebody text you usually you reply right then in case it's busy what happens you're driving and you have to be in park to use the text message that's not going to help when you have an emergency just wondering that's what you were saying I could be wrong but I never update any of my applications until I completely have to their work just fine the way they are until they tell me
On the small screen next to the map, it used to show the radio station I was listening to .... then it showed news stations and also You Tube .... how do I get my radio stations back in this space??
My connection is with Motorola Dongle, Samsung Galaxy S22, and 2018 Honda CRV head unit. The problem is that using Google Assistant keeps resetting the app.
How do I get the outside air temperature to display, like it used to? I have a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado with 8" screen and the OEM displays outside air temp, when I don't use Android Auto.
Hang on a second... How did you get the heart button on the main screen without having to push the dot buttons at 8:38????? Also you don't have the 3 dots you have some kind of weird broadcast button.
I am now pretty sure I have it. I turned "widgets" on .. no idea what that does, but I will try a few things as right now it look pretty much like it did before .. but the icons did move to the bottom a couple weeks ago.

I have a mercedes class b with 10.25 inch display and unfortunately the AA coolwalk interface is not displayed in full screen ... do you think it could be an update? Thank you
In some vehicles, you may have to change the system settings to allow for full screen. Not sure about Mercedes specifically but we had to do that for our Hyundai.
Question, using a windows computer, how do I turn off the ALT key behavior from enabling any of top bar menu selections? I would like to utilize the ALT key for more shortcuts but it's hard cause for example if u do a ALT+E the Effects drop down Menu will active and open every single time n it's annoying to use n very productive when ur trying to edit fast.

I just got a 2023 Accord Touring. How do I figure out what version of Android Auto I have? If it’s not the latest, how do I initiate the latest download? Is the software versions different for each auto manufacturer?
Congrats on your new Accord! Android Auto actually has nothing to do with your car. Just update to the latest version of the app on your phone, and you should see the new version on any vehicle you're in 👍
Is andrioid auto able to use google map when there is no reciption? For example, when I driving into a national park and there is no receiption, is google map still working? If not, is there a way to use the google map when there is no reciption? Please let me know, thank you.
Just got it on my 2015 Q5. I noticed similar 'lag' like yours when scrolling thru android auto list of apps in there, was it due to wireless transmission?
I'm old school, so I don't like change for its own sake. I'm a big believer in the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Like any rational person should, I only turn on my location service when I actually need it (which is not often), so the maps tile on the new main screen just shows a blank box with exclamation point in the center and that tile is always showing. Why can't I change the default apps, so I don't have to look at the blank maps tile? There are a couple little things I like in this update, but it's pretty annoying overall.
Well it was broke and yes it was missing a ton of settings. Cool walk has many needed features especially when calls come in not taking over the map is huge benefit. Yet which is very cool you can still make it look like the old version just need to understand some of the buttons.
I don't understand why you wouldn't keep it on. That's not Google's fault lol that's on you. You have the option to only leave it on when you're using the app and not all the time.

Have you noticed it now asks you to confirm "is that blah blah blah mobile?" Whereas it used to make the call no matter what. It's asking me for people I only have one number in my contacts and it's annoying.
My Mercedes e class 2019, with the same long screen, cuts 1/3rd of the screen with a fixed android logo. Is there a way i canvdo something to make it full screen?
Mercedes has to update the software to add support for full screen AA. I would suggest making sure you have the latest Mercedes software update because they might have added it. Our Hyundai added it 6 months ago, for example.
I lost the ability to use voice commands to send a text or phone call with this new update. Tried checking all different settings but I can't seem to get it back.
Any feature needs time to fix the issues and up to the competition. It just came right? With few updates everything will be set right. We are enjoying Coolwalk. No issues so far. Apple too inspired lot of things from Google if that is your point 🙂
I hate it. I have a 10 inch screen. Non touch, wired on a galaxy 22 ultra. It always says my Google maps isn't working and to retry. Well I click retry and it just doesn't work. Also if I'm listening to music, since I can't use maps, the screen stays small and the rest of my screen is all black. It doesnt open to a full screen. It's trash so far for my car and I spend 15 mins everytime I get in the car just to try and make it work. So disappointed, wish I just had the regular one back. That one never failed to load the maps and I would get full screens.
One thing to add here. If u have the latest version of AA on your phone but still unable to get full screen in car, check if you need to update the car infotainment firmware...which is usually the case
Yeah, but you have to use their choices ONLY. How is it that Android, the king of custom, is stupid enough to lag behind in such things. They should be way out in front of CRapple on this. We should be able to customize the shape of our icons, use ANY pic we want for backgrounds and put any accepted app into the smaller screen, not just music. Google NEEDS to get off their lazy asses, and take the reins on these things. AA could be ten times better than ACP, especially with Google Asst being ten times better than Siri. But they seem to drag their feet on everything these days.
I hope Genesis will now update their infotainment system to allow Coolwalk to use the whole screen. Genesis has an even wider screen than the BMW here and it uses that last 1/4 of it to display Genesis widgets. We need a way to remove that to get to full screen.
