I don't think I have ever seen a broken Enviro400 at the roadside. And with the state of the roads in Merseyside, that's quite a compliment

Leicester has seen broken Enviro 400s. The 72 plate batch at Arriva has broken down countless times and some of them are held together with duct tape 😂

MMC = Major Model Change :) A lot of manufacturers use acronyms that can throw you, for instance BMW call an updated model LCI or Life Cycle Impulse. But this looks like an all-new bus and very smart :) Hoping Abellio London should buy these for the E1 :)

Dennis have always made the best buses ever since the Plaxton President which I miss and I hope ADL go back for a Euro7 version.

We use CNG Scania enviro 400s here in Nottingham they are bodied by Alexander Dennis they are lovely buses to drive.

Very interesting video, thanks for posting! The Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 is a fantastic bus. I love it! By the way: why not for Barcelona (at least for the "Barcelona City Tour" double-deckers fleet)? I would like it so much. I drive them on the 47, and the route is made almost at 90 of these new buses, there are a few volvo hybrid too

ADL has not addressed the age old problem for night drivers; internal lights reflecting off the front windscreen making it difficult to see your nearside kerb area.

we have two versions of the adl 300 not to bad to drive but break down after break down and resetting problem is to much hassle .

Why hasn't Alexander Dennis been sued for false advertising yet? This video goes on about how "rattle-proof" the buses have been made, and how many rattles they have removed, but yet these buses actually turned out to have even more body noise than the old ones! In fact, some of the worst buses for body noise I have ridden have been Enviro400 MMCs.

Its nice to see that ADL have made a great effort to produce to a decent looking bus that is NOT ugly for a change. The front end resembles the ALX400 in a way but more futuristic looking as where the first gen Enviro 400's are just bland and ugly! Which is why I was swayed towards German and Swedish buses from MAN, Volvo and Mercedes as well as the Wrightbus Gemini and Borismaster as the Gemini Phase II looked better than the first gen ugly Enviro 400. But now that Alexander-Dennis have finally woken up and have made a nice looking bus. The tide may change and I hope that they will offer this carbody on the Volvo, VDL, MAN and Scania chassis. The cab looks miles better and also the way they have integrated the FOB shield into the seamless dynamics makes it look part of the design rather than just stuck on like a sore thumb. So welcome back ADL and I hope that you can sell your range of these buses into countries like Japan as well as I think some Japanese companies might be interested too. Although the FOB shield probably wouldn't be needed there.

***** Hello Michael, I think to be honest the first gen E400's was a design that was quickly knocked up on the fly without much thought put into it, same with the Enviro 200's and I hope that there will be a similar designed E200-MMC that will come very soon. I am certain that this new bus design will be offered on the Scania and the Volvo Chassis as well. I see what you mean about the D-shaped windows as it looks horrible to be honest and that is what I dislike about the design the most. But its now gone thankfully :). To answer your question. F.O.B is short for "Foreign Object Barrier" and that is the official name for the driver shield/screen around the cab area that protects the drivers from melee attacks from thugs and junkies that would attempt to rob their takings. Personally I support the cash hopper no change given system as it makes their job safer. I am surprised that this was never implemented in London. But they have off-bus ticketing there anyway now as well as the oystercard system :). The reason that the FOB shields are not needed in Japan as of yet is because the people there are very civilised and also the drivers do not handle the cash as it all goes into a hopper with no change given. Also you can pay the fare with a smart phone as well via a contact strip inside the phone. Same with using the trains in most parts of Japan :). Optare makes me scratch my head at times, because they come up with some very nice vehicle designs that are successful then pull the plug on them which limits the choice for operators that are loyal to Optare. Its a shame really although I hope the MetroDecker will be a true alternative for operators that want variation in their fleet. Also from a transport enthusiast point of view, it is something different to see and photograph/film as well. Ash.

james payne It might be a nice design in your opinion and I don't have a problem with that at all, I actually like the Hong Kong style Enviro 400 bus better because for starters it doesn't have those ugly D-shaped windows at the front sides on the upper like the UK version has. Also the HK version doesn't have those ugly-looking plastic rock hard seats in the lower deck at the back like the UK version does (Urban 90 influence perhaps?). The UK version of the Enviro 400 looks very cheap inside and the design was rushed through to replace the ALX400 asap. Which ironically the ALX400 is and always will be a better bus design over the Mk1 Enviro 400 not to mention that the interior on both decks is more welcoming and doesn't feel "cheap" unlike the E400. I am pleased that ADL have finally got round to making a decent looking bus and I actually like the style of the Enviro 400MMC more over the original Enviro 400. Most of the bus drivers I know actually prefer the ALX400 over the Enviro 400 as apparently the pillars on the Mk1 version block their view in some places as the "wrap-round" screen on the ALX400 and the E400MMC does not.

YR52 VFL is that because they still have Cummins ISCe8.3-260 engines rather than the ISBe6.7-250 in newer Enviro400s?

I actually think the original E400's looks better at the front, this one tries to look like the original at the front I feel since the top deck window doesn't wrap round as much and the lower window has to protrude to the sides. However this one looks better at the side and is more functionally designed. I also wonder why the interior of Enviro 400 MMC has different colour plastic panels that don't match perfectly like grey and blue.

Extended Bodies for Most of the Buses Much as I am not comfortable asking the depot why they stopped running the London Suburban Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW’s on routes 30, 121, 230, 313, 271, 349, N279 And 158 why can’t we make the same make of the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Buses but Modernise the insides of these Buses. Also, make it low floor up and down and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more so there will be more space for the wheelchair users. By the way, if you could remake and Modernise these vehicles could they also make them into a Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Version that if it will be possible to Modernise the insides of these Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW’s make it low floor up and down and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more so there will be more space and even a London Suburban 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMCs and 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX Diesel engine Enviro 400 MMC’s and also extend the middle the body part of these vehicles a little bit more. Why couldn’t we have those London Suburban Buse's Pale red on the top roof Pale red again on the top middle Milk Chocolate brown on the middle Creamy white on the Bottom Middle and Milk Chocolate Brown again on the Bottom on most of those kinds of Particular Double Decker Vehicles? Could you put the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox in the Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMCs and also put the Loud 3-Speed Voith Diwa Gearbox in the Volvo TD102KF Engine East Lancs Olympus and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more and also turn most of them to London Suburban Buses. By the way, could you also make the routes 313, 349, 230, 121, N279 and 271 into London Suburban Buses and have a mixture of a Loud 4-speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMC and Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Versions. There used to be two companies, ALX and Transbus. alx bought Transbus and then became ALX Dennis (as Transbus had Dennis in the same of it's buses)
