Long time Fiat 500 owner and fan... its not a 500. The 500 has always been a compact vehicle for the people with a primary focus on economy. The current MSRP in Italy is equal to a base Corvette in the United States. It offers absolutely no value anymore, and I'm really surprised that he likes this because for this price it doesn't even have leather. I think he's a Gruene, and so is merely praising this because its electric and environmentally friendly, not because its an objectively good car for the money.

Because its not cheap, before incentives it costs $42,000 in Italy with a miserable 0-60mph time of 9 seconds and a range of under 200 miles and full charge time of 6-hours. They could have used the 1.3T from the 500X and sold it for half the price.

@@huskydinosaur2860 That’s the launch model with all the accessories. The price for the base model in Italy at least is 19.000€ right now, and if you bring an old car back it’s 15.000€. And if you pay for the bigger battery the range is 468km (292 miles) in the urban cycle(the one which will be used most for this kind of car) according to the WLTP. And don’t forget about the fast charging capability, able to charge 50km in 5 minutes. Enough for the daily commute for most people I believe.

@@spacelobster6205 You're confusing the actual price of the vehicle versus the subsidized price. 19K€ is AFTER forcing your neighbors to pay 6K€ for part of the vehicle in taxes, because its not bad enough that the gasoline taxes are already so insanely high in Europe, they even make you pay for rich people's electric cars.

@@huskydinosaur2860 “forcing your neighbours to pay” is such an american view of government subsidies. The standard price for the base model is 26.150€, and with the discount of 6k that’s offered by literally every single automaker for ANY new car (below a certain pollution bracket), ICE, hybrid or electric, it goes down to 19.930€. It also goes even lower if you bring back an old car, putting the price at around 15.000€. Now, count the exemption to the annual road tax (bollo), the free parking on blue parking spots, the lower cost of electricity compared to gasoline, and the lower maintenance cost, and you have a very compelling vehicle. AND if you take the option to renovate your home on the government’s dime, by improving you house’s energy efficiency with insulation and solar panels they will actually refund you 100% of the renovation cost, and you get free charging for you cheap electric car.

@@reenachauriya4931 Yes, the European government is destroying the auto industry, and its on purpose. They want the plebs to all ride mass transit like sardines, and only the upper class will be able to afford personal mobility. This never should have been an electric vehicle, and it should have used the inexpensive brand new 1.3T engine that FCA just spent money creating and putting in other vehicles. With 177hp and 200ftlbs it would be much faster than this electric one, have nearly a 400 mile range, tank up in under 5 minutes anywhere, no worry and expense of having a charger installed everywhere you move, and would be much lighter weight improving handling and with those power levels would be very sporty.

This is the small EV I'm most excited about. I wonder if they can electrify the Abarth 124 as well. Bringing Italian style back to the future as it was in the 50s and 60s. What we feel nostalgic about Italian style was actually a super futuristic style back then.

Bravissimo, Thomas!! 👏🏻👏🏻 What a huge improvement they've made. Impressionante! If only it was rear motor/RWD (for my taste). I'd go for the 3+1. I like that extra side access to the rear seats. Love your videos, but to be 100% transparent, no one is completely free from editorial influence, as TFL learned. They got blacklisted by both Subaru and Ford recently for being too honest. They showed problems with the CVT in the new Outback that hampered its offroad performance and released info about the Bronco, and now they are banned from getting any early press vehicles from both companies. This is how manufacturers can control the press as they can and do restrict invites to those that they think will help them sell more vehicles. Those that don't get invites, like Consumer Reports, have to wait looong after the release of a vehicle to rent or buy one themselves to review it, meaning they'll never trend as a result on new vehicle launches.

@@NiwatiX I think the issue is that even between Canada and the US there are significant differences in sales. The compact segment is just dying as families (and people) here get bigger. I love this car too and have wanted one since I was little but all we can do is hope.

I would love to see this for sale in the US 🇺🇸, a huge mistake for Fiat. Sales have plummeted because of terrible quality, since the 500 was manufactured in Mexico 🇲🇽. I believe the 🇮🇹 Italian version is better built. I like the three door because of versatility, like the Ion coupe three door from Saturn. Not everyone wants a $70,000+ truck!

The italian Fiat500s were all right, not top qulity cars but well built for a small city runabout car (some engines should be avoided though). But im not sure if these new EVs could succesfully compete in the US as the base versions are from 30K dollars in Italy (20% sales tax included), the tested one easily 40K. And Fiat also doesnt have a sales network in the US which makes it more difficult.

Wie Gehts Thomas, great review! I own a 2017 gen 1 Fiat 500e, and my only complaint is the limited range. I use it mostly for local errands, but living in San Francisco, its the perfect urban car. It looks as if Fiat has addressed all of the previous gen issues with the increased range and fit and finish. Pity we can't buy it here.

If price is not an issue, its really a looker, and i think even with the 100 miles range of the small battery pack its perfectly usable for what it is, in Europe 90% of the ppl are commuting less than 60 miles there and back on a daily basis. Petrol/diesel cars are still cheaper to run IMO but it may change slowly as the production numbers of the EVs go up.

Great and detailed Review as always, Team. Fun shape, with a smiley face. Great as a second car for the well off. As per the Smart ED Cabrio, I'd take the 500 Convertible. If Fiat can keep the price down for the higher trim and higher spec models, it may do well - but is it any better than the old Golf e-Golf Mk 7.5 full spec, which had a nice interior and much better ride! I drove the 500 gas version, feels premium inside with a fixed glass roof! Lots of leather but this 500e seems to be cheaper looking inside! Please use a large touchscreen like tesla model 3, very clear and high tech! Also can a dual motor makes all wheel drive? Its very important in Canada or snow country.

Tesla model 3 is double the price and, apart form that screen (that's the only one, so you must look sideways to see any info) its interiors look quite cheap.

Nice car. I really like small cars. The big battery version is quite nice, although i really do like the extra room my e-Golf has. But perhaps with a bicycle rack on the back of the 500e it could work? 🤔 The "eco leather" is a real fail though.

Great video; you cover a LOT of the features which is really helpful for perspective buyers. Does anyone know if you can change the rather bizarre safety noise (33:30ish) that occurs when the car is driving at slow speeds? This would probably be a deal breaker for me! What I mean to say is, I love Ice Cream vans but I really don't want to sound like one when driving around town ; )

Hopefully we will in coming years. I noticed how the 2018 electric Fiat was selling on some used car website for around $8,000 but it only had an 85 mile range. I'm hoping that the price on this particular 2021 electric Fiat will drop significantly in price in four years when I plan on buying one

The min did not sell with xtra door because the out side looked odd . The should do both sides or at least do a crease line on the fixed side instead of a door to make it look the same

Very good review. It looks a great fun small car for town and city, but not on faster autobahn as it's still not adequate compared to conventional petrol/diesel engines but I guess this is a problem for all e cars not just this little Fiat.

Sorry, i don't think this 3thd door should be called a "suicide door". It cannot be opened without opening the front door. Therefore no suicide option ! The name "suicide door" is more relevant in the case of a car with a B pillar e.g. like the Opel Meriva B.

@Stanislav Jaracz As per the review - even though it does not have a fast 0-100km time, its 0-50 time is pretty good so it will get away at traffic lights very well. Just saying if you are going to use an acceleration figure in a review I would always use the 0-50 kmh figure for city cars.

As always great review 👍🏽 I’m really undecided between the 500e cabrio or the Mazda MX-30, two very different cars but both really nice. The 200kms range on the MX are really a minus tho...

My small hatchback rating. 1st. Honda E 2nd. Fiat 500 EV 3rd. Mini Electric 4th. Renault Zoe I would like to see ahead to head to see witch best.

The Honda E range is abysmal and offers poor rear legroom and boot space. However it does look good.

Honda has very limited range, not comparable car, Hondas range is around 150 km in combined drive, Fiat is much better car. If you drive that Honda in motorway only the range would be 100? or in the nordic cold climates, not suitable at all-.

The hatch looks the best. nice front facia, rear lights could have been more revolutionary. A 5 door version would be the perfect city car.

Wow this car looks awesome! - Despite the infotainment looks a bit slow at times I think the graphics is miles better looking than in my A4. The mat grey exterior looks borderline aggressive.
