I own a Honda 1000-5. I truly love the machine and shaft drive was the main reason I went with Honda. HOWEVER! the doors rattle, They are not close to sealed. If winter riding like myself at -40. you need heat! I installed a heater but to seal this machine up was a lot of trial and error. I did add the heat kit to reduce cab heat for summer but I certainly would appreciate that heat in winter. I added dual batteries, light bar, winch, 3 in lift, 30 " wheels and a heater. I have friends with CAN AM and their cab is amazing! The dash is like a car and digital GPS etc. Honda needs to add better cab system, GPS and keep up with Can Am in those areas.
The Pioneer 1000-5 is a great machine, mainly because it is the only UTV to my knowledge that has both front and rear differentials, so it doesn't tear up my trails. I also like the efficient use of rear space, and that it does not scream high RPM when moving slowly like the cheap belt models do (belt models set ratio based on road speed, but should set it based on throttle position). And the suspension and steering are very nice. That said, it is not without its downfalls. The front seats are slightly uncomfortable and the rear seats are very uncomfortable (compared to say, the Kawasaki Teryx4). The heat from the engine is unbearable on hot days. There is no open front+open rear diff setting (like a conventional 4WD pickup truck has). If you want open rear on this machine, you are forced to have free front. Not having this option is strange since the front and rear diffs are already there. I also have a love/hate relationship with the automatic downshifting in manual mode. With my true manual ATV's, sometimes I'd want a higher gear when not asking for power just to quiet the thing down. But overall, as an engineer I must say that the Pioneer 1000-5 is one of the best machines out there. A few simple design tweaks and it would be THE best!
+Ted's Motorcylcle i think honda should make a (Honda Frontieer 1000 - sport SxS) with about 110 hp, fox shocks and 13-14" of clearance. Also having a 6-7 speed transmission. Hit about 75 mph would b reasonable. Honda really has to make a move fast because their head is underwater but i have a feeling if they make a new and improved sxs and even a 1000 cc atv that looks really good and is on the same level of the outlander 1000 and sportsman 1000 but twice as relyable
Why does every one hate on the pioneer 1000? Honda just started making utv's a few years ago so you cant compare it to a polaris since they have been making them for long time. Same with can-am
I have a 2017 700 deluxe and with a 3 sp trans and its so noisy I am trading it, it should have a 6 speed trans. Single cylinder and 3 speeds make it uncomfortable with over reving.
I work for the company that makes a ton of the parts on this SXS. Mayville Engineering Company. We make the roll cage, suspension, frame components to name a few.
If DCT or HST was better than CVT, the others would be using it. Honda says CVT is no good for their recreational vehicles but they are turning to it for their road vehicles.
Does anyone make a UTV with simultaneous front & rear differential, like a conventional 4WD? I can't find anything, and I'm tired of trail erosion, especially at every corner.
My question is how much weed did this dude smoke in the back of his vw van before he shot his video with his arms flailing like a gangsta! Excuse my French!!!
Every time someone starts talking bad about CVT, especially around reliability, I immediately tune them out because they clearly don't know wtf they are talking about. Polaris owns this market, and is flat out the most reliable and powerful brand...and they're CVT.
My Manx dune buggy beats the crap out of that Honda. What is the top speed my boss got 2 of them for the construction site. I drove one and it doesn't seem to go over 25 to 30 mph ????
And polaris brings out the general. A better looking, more powerful, and faster model to make the Pioneer irrelevant. Not a huge polaris fan but they respond every time someone tries to compete. They don't sit on their hands and they are pushing everyone to do better. Honda had to do better in the looks department. these things are hideous
Stop calling it manu al people, it's semi automatic but in NY that word would probably make people concerned and cry like little bitches, especially if you have an AR-15 painted on the side. lol
