Hmmmm... wonder what the purchase price of this parts bin speical will be .... producing bodywork present day is CHEAP ... and easy ... the rest is just parts picked off the shelf... Put fairings on the Duke 1390, 1290 whatever the CCs are today and sell it out KTM...
I ride a 1290 and couldn’t agree more, torque is what makes me love the bike. Rode bikes with 200hp but the torque makes me smile so much, nothing can keep up out of a corner (road riding)
So refreshing to see one of these KTM people involved in the development speak freely about how they made this and their thoughts behind (instead of all that corporate bs talk you can sometimes get) Well done KTM!
4:55 what a down to earth guy totally in tune with the target audience, not so much marketing BS, I hate when triumph do their bits and they just come up with the stupidest comparisons sometimes and ignore glaring things people might be interesting in.
Actually kept me from buying a brand new 2022 Panigale V4S. Found a used 2018 Winglet free V4 instead. Shame that the manufacturers aren't smart enough to know that we all hate them and if they need to homologate for racing that they should make them easily removable and include some type of good looking block off plate.
Why the fuck are people complaining g about the cams eating themselves, I know multiple owners that haven’t had an issue since the day they bought their bikes two of them own a 790 for track use only not an issue there. I owned a 2020 Duke 790 and put 23000km on it. No issue what so ever, do you people just love to complain about KTM all the time?
Buy one, find out. Sick of non-KTM owners knocking them. Honda on the VTR1000 had a problem with cam chain tensioners, would it stop you buying an Africa Twin? Let it go FFS
We'll likely see a RC790 in the future to go against the RS660 and R7. But I've heard talks of CFMOTO having plans on releasing a V4 Superbike. CFMOTO owns KTM, obviously the engineering R & D has to be done in Austria. I think KTM might be supplying that motor and working on one of their own. Once it's finished they'll put it in a V4 superbike and CFMOTO will use that engine to develop a bike of their own. Just speculation tho.
@@thepsychicpeach8425 KTM is not owned by CF Moto, the Chinese factory that builds the parallel twin KTM bikes is owned by the same group that owns CF Moto. KTM itself is co-owned by Pierer Group and Bajaj Auto Limited.
There's something refreshingly honest about this engineers review of his project. He really gets it - and I wish I was lucky enough to own one! It looks fantastic!
If they bring this to the US I'm definitely interested. The rc8 always catches my eye when i see one out, this isn't quite that but will probably be more liveable
They won't. He specifically said they're not going to chase high horsepower AND that they don't want to risk making the engine unreliable. How can you hear that and say "wow let's hope for 2,000 more rpm and huge power !"
@@noblaw7595 You didn’t pay much attention to this did you as the rev limiter has been increased by 1,500 rpm and still safe and reliable. As an ex Australian Superbike Racer, these engines get pushed way further as you’re not chasing 10’s of 1,000’s in engine reliability, just max performance. So as a road bike come race bike it’s safe. When converted to a track only weapon the max revs will be lifted further which is basically what has been happening for 100 years. OMG.
I need it. Any idea of price? This is the first new bike in years that I am already planning to get. I love the new cbr600rr, but i can't justify swapping my 2014 cbr600rr for the new one, when the old one is already so good, and i already have it. Having had a Ducati 749s and 748r, i love my middleweight twins, but I'm not keen on the panigale v2. And I live for sportsbikes but don't see the point of 1000cc nuclear hand grenades that are too powerful to ever use. Price is the bit I'm scared of. Knowing me I'll be forced into a second hand one if its much more than the cbr But i like what i see so far.
@@TheInfantry98ive been getting old since the day i was born. Kids called me the old man at school. But, i can handle a thou, i just don't see the point. Riding it like a big girls blouse but still doing an absurd speed isn't my idea of fun. I'd rather feel like a hero ragging it at a much lower speed.
This is the bike I've been waiting for. I own an sv650s and an sv1000s so it's pretty evident I love the twins lol. The sv650s is perfect for throwing around in twisties but I just wish it had a little bit more power so I got the sv1000s but the handling on that bike is sub par. With so many middle-weight twins in the market I've been waiting for a modern big twin sportbike that actually handles well and this is looking like my dream bike. The torque of a 1000 supersport but the gearing and power of a 600 is the perfect road bike in my opinion. Here in New Zealand most of our twisty roads are tight, sharp, blind corners so very technical riding as opposed to long open sweepers with lots of vision, an I4 superbike just doesn't make sense here.
Yes this is the sweet spot for a fast road / track bike. But it seems like it’s just come full circle really. It’s a litre bike with a power output of about 130 bhp (im Guessing??) That’s like superbikes at the end of the 90s! Now the top bikes have all gone mental in capacity and power output. They’re awesome, but stupidly quick and expensive, and now we’re talking about these ones as “super-sports”bikes. Which is what we called 600s back in the day. So yes - looks ace. A fast 1000c V twin race-inspired bike. They were good back then and still are!
KTMs are very right about the focus on torque and comfort. As much as I love my new M1000XR and its top end, and even considering its shiftcam tech, the benchmark of a street bike performance in terms of engine for me remains gen3 1290 SDR. Once experienced that torque changes your perception forever.
At the local level I find the mix of next gen supersport bikes to make for interesting racing. *REALLY* hoping Yamaha addresses that bottom of the class torque with an R9 ASAP, I am damn near ready to buy one today.
Yeah wish Yamaha would hurry up. I'm gonna end up buying a mt09 just because that engine is so good. But imo they're kinda ugly I would buy the R9 today if they would release it.
I told myself I would only upgrade if Ktm released a large displacement street legal sport bike. I didn’t expect this so early or at all so cheers guys. Way to make my dreams come true! :)
I want this bike soooooo bad! I'll have to probably sell all my other bikes to afford one but i think it's gonna be worth it. I don't need a 200+hp monster. And the supersport class has been lacking any innovation for years now. This ktm is exactly what I need in life. A cutting edge track weapon with usable power figures and hopefully a usable budget.
I had hoped that the there will be two exhausts. One by the "seat unit" and one shot by the swing arm...I always had a weakness for this sort of exhaust placement since the 500cc era. However it never made it into the road legal versions. Possibly due to heat / noise issues?
Dam nice looking bike Al. If my sportbike days weren’t over because of my old age and lack of flexibility I would be all over that. Its going to make a big impact if they keep the price in the mid teens. Street bike track bike hell yeah GoGo Ktm.
This, RS660, CBR600RR, V2, 675SR, ZX-6R, R9, or F3? The usability focus for the road & a decent level of supersport performance does make this an attractive option if KTM can pull it off. Pricing, quality fit & finish plus reliability will be critical. On top of the calibration of electronic systems working for the bike where handling will be expected to be sharp. We will be spoilt for choice in a year's time.
I have to admit that the wrap is pretty effective, it's really difficult to see what the lines of this bike look like. Looks like it will be a good looking bike.
It make sens actually on the road you do not feel HP but torque when you ride. With Yamaha R9 on the cards KTM 990 RC will be nice option vs expensive V2 Panigale.
Seeing this begs the question could a v4 be close behind as they're already admitting to running ssp in wsbk could they give us a panigale-esque v2 and v4 variation for wsbk with everything they've learned from the gp v4
World War 1 Dazzle Camo 👌. Looking forward to the end product. I agree with your sign off. Superbikes have become Hyperbikes and nobody much is buying them. It'll be interesting to see if there is a market for this. I hope there is.
