The interior is proof that practical controls can be integrated in a minimalist way, I saw the press pics originally and thought oh no they've gotten rid of climate controls like Golf 8, but no! They're just styled well. Good job Opel. Also agree, the base interior looks fantastic.
yep i saw the photo that i thought get rid of it physical buttons for this car fortunately none of them of this car they are kept the physical buttons i saw in a few seconds
@@dragospahontu Ceed feels like a small car inside. Cheap plastic everywhere. Go for it if you like it, but I'd rather take a Golf. And like I said, under the hood is still outdated as hell on the Korean cars. Fuel consumption is pretty high for the performance it offers.
The Astra H for me is the most beautiful in term of design, it was ahead of its time when it was lunched, and I think opel are doing the same thing again with this latest generation.
The Visor was a good decision, it reminds the old days 70's and 80's - the classical Opel cars.👍 Even to build this car again in Rüsselsheim with the new DS4 gives the brand a bit of strength again. It's seems that Opel is an a good way after a very difficult decade.
I totally agree. It remembers me a lot of the old 1204/Kadett C my dad had in the goldish yellow. The car looked amazing, was were built but a bit problematic and not at all comfortable. Later models where even worst. The comfort was so bad that when I decided to buy my first car, my mother who has never driven, told me "buy whatever you want but please don't buy a BMW and absolutely no Opel!"
It is looking so damn good! The only thing I hate is the glossy interior plastics which indeed, they look good brand new, but in a week or so they gonna be full of scratches and fingerprints!
It's strange, I have a Canon printer with just such a surface and it is still in new condition after 10 years despite frequent use as a table to put things on?
I am a peugeot fan, but I must say... this new Astra looks way better than new 308. And especially love the retro feel. Also... Kadett C is just great!
There is definitely something of Vauxhall’s ‘of old’ in this new ‘Visor’ front design… I personally love it, and I think it’s a long overdue design asset to give the brand some ‘stand out’ and differentiation from the competition. 👍🏻
I really like that opel whenever they launch a new model they display all the older generations! They did that at the launch of the new corsa and it was really nice 👌🏼. What is also very nice, is your work guys at this channel 😀 😄👏🏻👏🏻
I've heard every reviewer say that the centre crease on the bonnet is a new design feature... Are all the reviewers forgetting the centre crease that ran down the front and rear on the Astra H, I remember that's one of the things that made it stand out at the time for me.
That line, centre crease, is from the Kapitän 1956, and has been on all models since then with the exception between 1983 - 1999, the rear was introduced on the Speedster. The problem is that they repeat what Opel has said to them, and Opel's argument is only incompetence, they think that if they tell you that it's something Opel had in '65 years, it's not as exciting as saying it's something completely new, they think that Opel's history is a negative burden to hide, they do not listen to people who say it is history they admire while new things are just copies without value. Those who write Opel's commercials are simply idiots who do not know what they are doing.
Yeah, they've even gotten roasted by EURONCAP for electing not to care about safety. That's harsh since everyone roasts Stellantis for their rubbish build quality already. Topping the most recalled car in Europe together with the least reliable brand in both EU and Jesus land.
@@Ce0ammer I was shocked when I first saw the front crush test photos of the Peugeot 2008. The motor bay was completely devastated at 60 km\h crush. Sure thing PSA uses poor and cheap structure parts...Nice design though:)
I remember my mom having a Kadett E when I was a kid, she keeps telling me the story how I would always say "mom's car" when I saw any Kadett regardless of the color.
Amazing looking car. PSA is doing a good job with the Opel and Peugeot designs. I love the Peugeot 208 design especially. It’s a great car for young people.
Noooo... shiny, black plastic. Why does Opel always put it in the places that are most likely to be scratched, like around the cupholders where phones, coins and keys will scratch it. Even in the current version, the plastic was scratched so badly in the showroom. Car manufacturers really need to move away from this. The rest of the car is spectacular. Beautifully styled and wonderful colours, especially the gold. Great review, as always.
Love this version. I currently have an Astra H which still looks really nice even these days I think. But soon if I have to change this new model could be a potencial next car for me. Nicely done Opel!
Astra g and h were the best with good build quality and still I see too much of them in the roads. New model is too much peugeot so I prefer to buy the new 308 instead. But let's wait to see it live in low trim versions.
You get Opel parts in Peugeot... And the Astra is a little better than the Peugeot, because Opel has changed some of the technology, the 308 is not a wise choice.
Love the new look but for Opel/vauxhall to say the new car has more legroom than the Astra K just isn’t true. The Astra K was huge in the back for its size, more spacious than this new one looks to be
Of course, Opel built the car around... the passengers, Peugeot builds the car and picks in the passengers in the space left over... PSA simply builds cramped cars because they follow a bad method. Opel was not allowed to build the bodies because PSA considered that Opel was far too careful with the details and then the body became expensive to manufacture.
Love it!That visor front end will look good on the Corsa when the time comes. The dash sweep reminds me of the mk2 Astra/Kadett.And those alloy wheels?Pure Manta GT/E!!I wish Vauxhall/Opel much success with this car, looks really up to date now.
They still use a torsion beam... it wasn't always like that. The watts linkage used to be one of the defining features in the Astra. Unfortunately now no watts linkage on the Astra anymore, that's a shame. They quietly dropped it for the last generation too to cut costs and it looks like it won't be coming back. Sporty looks all well and good but sporty handling would be better. btw the reason there was no Astra I as far as I know is that "I" looks like a Roman number 1, not that it's a creepy sound...
As usual a great review of the golf beater from Vauxhall which we have on order for June 23 delivery of the 1.2 litre 130bhp engine which I am a big fan of. 😊
I am not an Opel fan definitely but these latest models look really good indeed inside out, especially their grills and headlights. This particular model reminds golf a lot but that’s not a bad. Unfortunately rear seats are cramped like Corolla and the dark roof lining, Corolla still is the best in class due to its unique drivetrain but short left as lack of leg room on the back. Anyway I like this new Astra a lot. 👍 Thanks for sharing.
The rear of the vehicle looks absolutely stunning with the horizontally drawn rear lights... silhouette from the side looks nice too, it looks like its much lower than the VW Golf VIII. However I am not a friend of the design of the front lights. To me they look blunt and boring, but I guess this comes down to personal taste. Interior looks much more premium and cleaner than I would have expected and the steering wheel looks way better than the steering wheel of the newest Opel Corsa. I am eagerly waiting for the full review with the driving part!
This is the absolute best, most cohesively designed Astra they've made! I wouldn't have considered a new Astra (despite the fact I own an Astra TwinTop!) compared to rivals, but this looks superb and finally has the technology it needs and that people want. The interior is really smart and looks like it would be easy to live with and nice and modern. (I'm glad the volume knob doesn't turn the whole knob! I've had cars where they rotate and my OCD won't let me use it unless it's perfectly centred, then I just use the steering wheel buttons. My air vents are also perfectly set and can't be adjusted by passengers)
Thank you for this review, been looking forward to it for a long time! One question, what kind of sound system does the new Astra have and is it any good?
Damn... This compared to golf... I like the styling better... Never thought i'd say not a big fan of opel in general but this is a very good looking car... They nailed it with this one.
Excellent review as usual and very interesting to see the previous generations as well :) In my early childhood, we had a 1971 Opel Kadett B, 2-door sedan in beige and later, my parents first new car was 1988 Opel Kadett E sedan, which was our car for 7 years. After I got driver's license in 1992, sometimes drove that Kadett too. After that, we've had other car brands, but of course always interesting to see what's the newest incarnation of the car we once, or twice had :D
Well, ID.2 just got out of luck and Renault 5 got into serious trouble.... I just love that golden Astra and I am finding it very hard to resist. The interior is better than previous cars, with some nice touches but still a bit too dark for me.
Would get this over the Golf any day of the week. Golf was always a boring looking car but not ugly, with the new one the front is ugly and boring at the same time. The interior is nice but eliminating all the buttons is so stupid. The Astra's interior looks modern while having buttons for all essential function. Also the kinda retro modern exterior is much more beautiful in my opinion.
I'm too young to remember Opel and Ford's Heydays, but I've always liked these car brands. I have had a Ford Fiesta mrk.II which was a really nice small car (a much better car than for example the slightly more modern Peugeot 106 which I have also had) and I have driven Granada, Scorpio and Mondeo (different generations). I have a more distant relationship with Opel, but friends have had Opel and various models have clearly impressed me in relation to being relatively cheap, but still offering everything you really need in terms of comfort, space and performance. It's nice that Opel is now being revitalized with PSA/Stellantis ownership. I think Opel will eventually be marketed as an alternative to the Seat, but more emphasis on an interesting design. Exactly how PSA/Stellantis will place the individual car brands in the group in relation to VAG will be very interesting to see. I think it will be too cramped and that for example Fiat will suffer and maybe end up as a slightly more sensible alternative to Dacia.
the pure panel feels rather awkward to operate and then the display feels large but narrow in height. the physical keys almost seem to hinder the use of the display. can you confirm me?
In the middle between the two rows of buttons there is also a sunken line that is illuminated, this is intended to support the thumb when you press the screen so that the hand gets stable support while driving the car and does not move uncontrolled across the screen. This detail designed in this way is unique, it was introduced as an idea at Astra 2016. If you place your thumb there, you have the perfect distance to the screen.
As i saw in video, the car will have some soundproof problems. For example, I didn’t see a rubber for lower sill part of car. It will take tire noises to inside.
Disappointing package with the rear legroom and high boot floor but otherwise I’d have this over the Golf. Nice they’ve kept some physical controls and you can clearly see the Corsa in the side profile so the family resemblance is there. Be interesting to see the driving review.
Looks pretty good. I like that sharp nose. The dashboard is rather ugly though. That angular display section is bad, especially the small piece on the left with the air vent. And I think the MBUX looks way better than Tesla and Polestar, especially the latest version from the S class.
If this Astra would have normal regular 1.6 turbo (no hybrid) , I would be the first customer becuase this car looks great. Classic and agressive. Otherwise we have only 1.2-3cyl no hybrid engines and i dont like it.
