Actually have one with the touchbuttons on the steering wheel and while it’s not as good as a normal button it is definitely usable. Took me like 2 days to get used to it…
You are one of the best car reviewer out there. You are not just giving pure information you are educating and explaining as well, like drag coefficient and air in the back of the car which is pulling car, amazing info.
I waited 2 months for this video test! I ordered a new Tiguan in December (without a test drive) and wanted to know how the DCC Pro would react. Apparently it was a good choice to include this in the options list. Thanks for this clear test Thomas!
Worldwide Tiguan future sales logic is as follows, it is complicated: Tiguan for EU (5-seater), built in Wolfsburg, Germany. Tayron for EU (7-seater), built in Wolfsburg. Tayron for China (5-seater), built in China. Tiguan for US (5-seater) is basically a modified Tayron without additional seats and built in Mexico. We are keeping u updated and will also present the US Tiguan as soon as possible.
I am a bit irritated when only gully spec cars are given to review. When most people can only afford the lower or middle spec cars. What we see here is a dream.
Hopefully we will see this in future...Mr. Blume changed the Designer and ID2 is the first car/EV again looking like a VW...and Golf 9 will be a pure electric car, too.
Thomas is absolutely the best car reviewer out there. This is the absolute best review of the new Tiguan. Super informative. We were scheduled to replace wifey’s 2014 BMW X3 in late summer when the 2025’s come out. We were looking only at the Honda CRV, but now the 2025 VW Tiguan looks most promising. Design and engineering of the new Tiguan looks awesome. I had a VW ID4 on order. But when it arrived the design and software was awful so I rejected it after waiting 6 months. I am glad that VW returned to its traditional , well executed design rather than rounded lumpy awful aesthetic of the ID4. Kudos to VW. Is the new Passat coming back to the US? I hope so.
I super happy that they are bringing the normal buttons back! That’s a good sign, it might set a trend in a good way. As for the rest of the interior, I find that huge screen way too big and in your face, kind of unnecessary tbh. Thank you for the review!
Does it still come with the neat USB at the rear view mirror for a dashcam plug? I found that a really useful touch. We all need dashcams for manufactures that don't offer them from the factory. One in the rear would be even better. While I'm at it, a clip and port for an iPad on the rear of the front seats. I'd happily pay for those options, just to keep the kids entertained on those long road trip without having to hold the cell phone for hours. Lighted emblem is a gimmick but I wouldn't mind it if there was an on/off toggle. I like it better with the name to the side rear panel rather than the middle. I glad to hear the larger infotainment screen is an option. The 15" is way too big and not esthetic at all. Other than that. the interior is greatly improved. Save the hard plastic at the rear sill. @2:26 A portmanteau.
What do you prefer, smooth plastic over hard plastic, thats great🤔 no! Only more garbage! High quality materials make sense in the area where you touch! The tiguan is considered one of the most durable and reliable SUV in Europe, that is quality!
Tbh miles more expensive Mercedes and BMW vehicles have the same. No one even cares about that, you never touch that part. Only see it in a review and forget about it.
@@ptingz9307 tell me you didn’t drive Japanese car in last 3 years without telling me. Toyota and Lexus infotainment is awesome. Mazda has the best infotainment in cars, period.
I personally don't agree. I like this way more. But maybe its because the mk2 is driven by old man or woman alot here in germany. And this looks really different, so it does not remind me that much of old people.
As the owner of MK2 pre facelift, I have ordered MK3. The interior is much better than MK2 material and option wise, also the physical buttons on the steering wheel are back. The mk2 facelifted climate controls are more or less the same, easy to access touch buttons with backlight. The only questionable thing for me is the gear selector placement and less control over the wipers because of this. I like the exterior of new R-line with black style package, looks fresh and distinct enough from the other car brands.
PHEVs could be a good solution for some people, but automakers view them only as “compliance” vehicles, which means they perform poorly, have lot of defects, have high consumption both in electric mode and in combustion mode at highway speeds (when you’d need the engine). A good PHEV which consumes less than 16Wh/km in EV mode and can do more than 15 km/l at highway speeds (130km/h) would be an excellent car. But no one makes it. All PHEVs are shit.
@@vadimsportactually it’s perfect. Much Better than searching through different menus just for climate while driving. Turning a knob is always easier and safer.
Good review, but I'm a little tired of hearing about the animal free interiors. I have a 2017 Passat with about 65k miles and the leatherette seats are coming apart.
happy to see vw go back to buttons on the steering wheel, now if only they ditched the crappy shinny plastic it would be amazing, and seeing the latest id7 center console they sure know how to use other materials rather than shinny plastic

I have the same car as you and like the design better.. wish it had a little more horsepower though. I do like the inside a little better of the 2024 except for the giant TV .. lol.. why it can't be integrated into the dash!?
Looks very nice and modern. Love the physical buttons. One thing I don't like is that climatronic is not present, and you have to go through the central screen. IDK why so many manufactures do this. That only leaves dirty screens and it is a pain.
@japanwatchconnection i mess with the temperature and inner circulation button quite a lot in my car, depending on what roads im driving, how heavy is the traffic, if my car is doing a cold start and how i am dressed.
Thanks for your reply. Theres , natch , elegance , r line. I want the pan roof as well. Also there is another contender the cx 5 homura. Just want a comfortable car for my family. Something I can look at and say yes that’s a good car. 🫢
Hey, it's really good review with lots of details! Can I ask you to include more details on the PHEV driving. You did good including the information on driving EV only. But can you tell us about the sport mode. Can you drive in manual? Can you rev the engine hard and then change to the next gear? Can you down shift manually and accelerate? Basically can you drive it like a petrol car on the track? A PHEV is a good car for someone home charging and mostly short drives, but it is important that 1 it can drive in EV only without jumping to ICE. 2 it can drive relatively efficiently on longer drives, with regen etc.. 3 it can be driven hard, preferably with manual gear control when you want to and have some fun roads. Many thanks 👍
Thank you Autogefujl for your best videos! I followed you a long time. I like to see new Tiguan stay close to ID.4! This will be interesting in details. About Plug-in Hybrid version my dealer Moller auto said that need to service oil change more often in 15000km. Thanks to you ! Wish you new best videos like always
31:35 high battery buffer keeps the battery degradation lower. I don’t know any PHEV which allows user to choose the level of charging so most of cars are charged to 100%. Which degrades the battery significantly. So it’s clever idea to use 80% of the battery and keep it healthy for years.
I have not found very good information on the PHEV powertrain specs, but it looks like power outputs are (petrol+electric=total) 150+54=204hp and 177+95=272hp. I would expect the difference in electric power (54 vs. 95) to have a significant impact on pure electric use. Then again, some source say the difference is only the electric motor power, but that seems unlikely. Are you able to clarify, or at least tell which you tested?
Let’s be honest, they also made it $3500 to be a status symbol. They did the same with the AirPod max when compared to other headphones in their class.
I've been waiting this from quite some time, thanks Thomas for an excellent review ) For me being an owner of previous Tiguan 2023, I would say that I like the front of the previous generation more than this one )
There are a few things I want to point out that I would really like to see in cars again but first idk what vw is doing with theirs designs right now. The id2all looks again really classic vw but they seem now to go more and more in this ev look directions with a design that was clearly only made for the id3. And it is kinda sad that we need to point out felt in the doors with cars at these prices (looking at you 5er bmw). A thing that also made me curious after your materials video I would really want to see more higher trim premium fabric seats. Like cord and such. Like the Japanese used to do. Microfiber is cool and all but why not more options? 😅😅 nevertheless enjoyable video as always👍
I hate the fact that manufactures are adding unnecessary gimmicks and tech and making the cars unnecessarily more complicated and super expensive! That volume knob being a round screen can cost a lot when broken !
Looking forward to the upcoming PHEV Tiguan with the 50 mile ev range. Hopefully Volkswagen will allow a "camping mode" for owners to be able to use the climate controls (air conditioning/heat) while car camping in the Tiguan-- so that we enjoy battery powered AC/heat while camping! Please do this VW🎉🎉🎉
i need the TIGUAN R released yesterday..i dont understand why the new model comes along yet the halo model isnt even revealed or shown to be even in development.
Hi! Love the video. is it certain or confirmed that this Tiguan will have an illuminated VW emblem? I don't think that will happen anymore. It would be cool! 01:36
Great video! I always get excited when I see a new upload. Has there ever been a car door closing sound that has been amazing (apart from G-wagon). Because you said ‘good’ but not amazing so I’m curious what cars have a super premium door closing sound

The interior design is OK I guess. But it seems like they are trying too hard to look high tech, comes across as cheesey not well thought out. That 15 inch screen is flat out ridiculous…hard stop for me. I’d also rather see a traditional gear changing mechanism. The centre rear seat cup mechanism is horrible and will be hugely unpopular. Overall, I fail the interior design of this car. R-Line? I hate the way it looks: The high gloss black and the gaping maw of a front grill looks bad. On the other hand, the Elegant looks great. My main issue? It looks like a Toyota or Kia. This doesn’t look like a VW.
Not sure about the gloss black wheel arches. I own a 2018 Tiguan R-line and I honesty wouldn’t change a thing on the exterior. I almost like the elegance over the R-line in the new model.
Interesting...it runs over 200km/h...only interesting for me as german. I am indeed suprised why anyone in other countries buys big engines, since limited to 120km/h on Autobahn anyway. Even 100hp would be too much for most countries on the planet.
I am glad that vw reverting back from path golf8 went but it is still not as user friendly as usually vws were. At the moment I got a feeling that korean brands are more like vw clients like it to be.
Hi Thomas, how it's 1.5eTSI comparable with 1.5TSI from the previous generation? Is it the same engine? Is it enough for new Tiguan? I am considering whether ordering now or wait for 2.0 TSI.
This engine has been out for the Golf for ages, the mhev system can save some fuel. Engine is fine for the car unless u dont expect much performance. For quicker autobahn driving the 2.0 is better
I have to replace my Golf 8 later this year and want to go for a 320i then. But this car seems awesome for long distance driving and looks great also. So I might stick with VW 👀 really excited for the 2.0 TSI tho
VW needs to start selling PHEV models in North America. Until battery technology greatly improves the PHEV solution is the best solution for going electric for many people. I do cross country travel, but around town up to 50 miles on electric would be plenty.
Thanks for the excellent review, Thomas, however I must say I am disappointed with the roundish design of the recent VW models that follows the Japanese and Korean competition and doesn't feel typical VW any more... I personally prefer the straight lines of the previous model.
it's really expensive unfortunately for what's offering.. In my country(Romania), a mild hybrid it's sold for 42k euro which it's really a huge price... I think the PHEV will be way over 55k which it's a shame, with this money you can go for a GLC. Also, the waiting time of 9months+ it's really a shame.
Can someone explain to me why you can only get electric front seats for driver and passenger in the New Tiguan by opting for the leather seats package. I don’t mind VW’s long standing options policy but why can’t there be an ‘electric seats’ option which is free-standing and not linked to leather. I have test driven an ID3 and it had electric seats and microfibre seat upholstery. Please can this inconsistency be fed back to VW.
Do you know what cruising speed the engine cut in taking over from the electric motor? I had a Lexus and in theory it was limited to less than 30 mph but in reality over 17 mph it switched to engine. This was virtually useless for mixed town and highway driving.
Are the capacitive buttons for the infotainment illuminated or are they still not? The reason I ask is becasue in Canada, the buttons on the 2024 Atlas are not and I was hoping to see if the 2025 tiguan changed that. Thanks. Love the videos
@@japanwatchconnection thanks, makes sense all you said. I was just sitting in new X1 in a showroom. The steering wheel has the worst "leather" (or whtever it was) material I ever touched. It feels like some kind of rubber, just awful. These (small) things can easily turn me off from that choice. I will wait to see Tiguan definitively.
Hey @autogefuehl. Thank you for the great review. I'd like to ask for your personal opinion about how does this new generation Tiguan compares to XC40 which I'd say was class above until now. Did VW manage to catch-up on comfort and luxury level with Volvo?
I don't understand why VW uses hard plastics in the backseats at this price point, especially considering the CX5 and RAV4 are cheaper and use soft touch and even stitching.
