Hey, Algebra 1 and Honors Algebra teacher here. There’s a lot that’s correct about this video, but in Algebra 1, we teach a lot more! Here is a breakdown of the highlights of the curriculum, in order: - Equations - Inequalities - Graphing Linear Equations: slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard form - Systems Of Equations: graphing, solve by elimination and by substitution - Functions: notation, function tables, evaluating inputs to find outputs, identifying functions - Monomials/Polynomials: identifications and degrees, adding/subtracting/multiplying/diving - Quadratic Equations: graphing, solving with factoring, quadratic formula, and completing the square. - Exponential equations: growth and decay For my honor’s course, we’ll also hit a little bit of absolute value functions and piecewise functions. I just wanted to leave this comment so students know exactly what they’re in for if they are going into Algebra 1. It’s a very involved course, but very essential.
This is great timing! I realized that I missed a lot of content looking back. I know that in quite a lot of circumstances, there are topics that must be covered and topics that can be left for a future class for specific subjects. In my case with middle and high school, I missed out on a lot of extra math content because we "didn't get to it" and there was much more that was review for the next class because "we may not have maintained it." For this reason, I plan on making a video of "The Rest of Algebra 1 Explained in 5 Minutes" to fill in the gaps. That's on the way, but in the meantime, thank you very much for your exhaustive subject list! This will help out quite a lot to that end.
@@vampric I’m glad to hear that! Algebraic knowledge is an incredibly useful thing to have. There’s a bunch of great channels on RU-vid that can help you get started.
@@LesMaga-te6gx and you are dumb as a rock. This was sarcasm. Its called exaggeration in English class. By saying that he thought me more in one year I'm literally saying that I understand him more than my own teacher. Not everyone learns in the same way....
Excellent work, terrific communication skills. I learned a few things I did not know. I wish I had you in high school mathematics. Thanks again for making your math videos I've watched a few of them.
Going into Algebra 2 after summer break and I've forgotten mostly everything. I'm terrified of not knowing something simple during class that I should be able to solve easily and that I'll just end up making a fool out of myself. So thank you for this, it was very well explained and a good refresher.
I'm in algebra 2 but I had a horrible teacher last year and didn't learn anything in algebra 1. One of my friends sent me this video to try and help me understand
Damn. I’m 26, with a firm grasp on multi-variable calculus and linear algebra, and I couldn’t do a better job of explaining Algebra I to 6th graders in 5 minutes than this video does. A+ educational material
I already took Algebra I and I must say this is impressive for five minutes. Quite bare bones so I wouldn't rely on this to prepare for an EOC. Maybe if you uploaded a part two, you should include quadratic equations and graphing since those are important parts of Algebra I. Also, love the System of a Down reference!
Im in 7th grade taking Algebra and just getting prepared for my eoc and this was definitely a pretty easy topic but complex Update I took my EOC and it definitely has tricky questions some people get more equations and others get more word problems and graphs but I feel confident in getting 5 UPDATE: I got my score back and I got a 5
@@princesslavender9007 good luck just don't stress when I talked to people you either hey the first session is kinda hard and the second is easy or the first is easy and the second is a bit hard
I took Honors algebra 1 in 8th grade and it still was pretty easy (at least for me). Algebra 1 is more of a middle school level math class than a high school math class. Just take notes/pay attention, read the textbook, do the homework, seek help from your teacher and you will get an A in that class assuming you ace the exams.
Bro I needed this I have my regents tomorrow and my teacher although she really does try she can't teach me in a way understand so I've suffered this whole year this video just made any thing I barely understood perfectly clear
Trying to formalise what Highschool algebra is using undergraduate mathematics is an interesting exercise…so far I don’t think I can say it’s anything beyond solving systems or equations over totally ordered fields.
System of a Down 😂 Thank you so much for this video. I’m in 10th grade but I have no confidence in my math skills so I chose to take algebra 1 again. Seeing as it was too easy I was given the choice to take the algebra 1 regents (I live in NY). This video has helped regain my confidence in myself, wish me luck 🤞
Starting college after years since high school. Taking precalc before calc to refresh, but making sure I have a good basis of algebra first. Hoping I can make it through alive haha
Did you really just say it was the easiest? Because I couldn't even complete Algebra 1 in highschool (either my school was behind other schools or it was a different time in the early 2000s). I always loved the idea of being able to workout equations but, I struggled so badly with being able to wrap my head around math in general. I tried going to college and needed to do an Algebra 1 course and I ended up with panic attacks. I want, so badly, to be able to go all the way up to physics. I want to understand the universe. I want to be able to contribute to SOMETHING in a field that focus on getting mankind to the stars.
I struggled with math as well for the longest time. I don't think there was any one thing that helped me finally wrap my head around it, but I watched a lot of different videos explaining the concepts and solving problems, like from khan academy and organic chemistry tutor, and even jumped the gun by getting pre-calc for dummies, which also helped introduce me to more advanced versions of functions and graphing. When I got into community college, I got placed into intermediate algebra (which I suppose would be algebra 2 in this case), and I was thankfully able to pass pretty well. I can definitely emphasize with your last statement. I'm looking to go into aerospace so I can work in the spaceflight industry myself, since its been a dream of mine for the longest time. If I had any advice, try to get into a study group, tutoring session, or go to office hours with people/professors willing to help walk you through algebra concepts, and as it starts to make sense, do plenty of practice problems to get those to stick. Watching videos on your own can also help explain things if it doesn't click the first time,.I'll admit, while channels like mathantics are geared for middle/high schoolers, the simpler examples and explanations really helped me before I got into college. Good luck though, I hope it works out for you!
Me watching this less than a month before transferring to a new college. Haven’t taken math in almost 3 years and I’m hoping it all comes back to me 😂👍🏼
Haha! To be fair, the usage of the letter x as a variable in mathematics is said to have originated with Rene Descartes, an 18th century French philosopher. Although ancient Greek mathematicians used the letter x to denote location in geometry, Rene Descartes used the letter x to symbolize a constant number in his mathematics. As a result, the letter x was accepted as a variable in many fields of mathematics and has since been in use.
Math is so interesting to me but I simply don't have enough knowledge to understand it. Highschool and my younger self failed at providing the push to try and actually understand it. Such simple math and yet I still have some fallacies. So now I am on Khan Academy filling the holes in my algebra and arithmetic before I take calculus and what not, pretty pretty cooool
this actually helped me alot, im a homeschooler, who's transferring to public school this year, and pretty much know very little about algebra so this helped alot! very well-spoken, didn't get me in a trance or distracted ( i have adhd so this happens aLOT) i find algebra very interesting considering most of the population hates it but i will somewhat be excited to learn about it some more in the long run.
I'm in middle school and got into Algebra class and have been having a lot of troubles and this video helped me especially since I have ADHD! Thank you!!
Currently studying for my GED and honestly this helped a good bit! Had lots of trouble with algebra as a kid so thank god you made somethin my dumbass can understand
IF my algebra teacher wrote this on the board instead of just speaking about it, I would have passed Algebra. Alas, she just sat talking about it and I barely passed the course. Basically, I hit a brick wall when I got to algebra.
Taking AP calc. I will not stress enough guys that this is just as important as the calculus. 90% of problems you face the in calc really only use calc about 30 % of the problem the rest is usually algebra. So if you plan on doing that later on please don't let go of your algebra.
This is the way. Why over-complicate it? I've noticed a lot of mathematicians say that higher math teaches you logic and higher reasoning skills, but logic like Occam's Razor (the simplest answer is often the correct one) is thrown out the window.
Taking the algebra 1 njsla test tmr so im glad this video helped at least a little (i havent watched it yet but i will in a minute) Im also taking it as a 7th grade honors student early so i gotta prepare as much as possible. I wish everyone else here the best of luck on any test you may be studying for :)
Hey, you explained it very well! It was clear and understandable. But can you do another video about more complex algebra stuff? I have a test tomorrow and I think I am cooked because people who took the test said it was really hard. I am absolutely cooked....
I'm about to do the ASVAB test for the air force in 2 weeks. I gotta refresh my brain because I grad in 2024 with my math class being AP stats and boy that was hell. Anyhow this has been very helpful
I knew all of this stuff in 6th grade. 8th grade curriculum, what are you doing?! You are teaching 6th graders and 8th graders the same things!!! Great video, just wish my school system made sense.
I only have to take algebra 1 state test this year and biology, American history, geometry, and English 2 in my sophomore year next year but if I fail algebra 1 this year then I’ll have to study for 5 topics next year
0:16 wait what would the first thing after learning Arothmetic be then.? Just realized I do not know if I have ever heard of anythign between taking algebra and arithmetic/long division or whatever it was called.
