Imagine transcending your ordinary life and becoming more like God. This isn’t just a lofty idea but the heart of an ancient Catholic concept called Theosis, or deification. This video explores the profound journey of divine transformation, deeply rooted in Christian theology and philosophy.
Start with the story of Adam and Eve, whose fall stemmed from seeking godliness through their own means, highlighting the fundamental human error of mistrusting God's plan. Uncover how true divinization isn't about claiming divine power but aligning with God's will and receiving His grace.
Dive into the insights of revered Church Fathers like Blessed John Duns Scotus, Cyril of Alexandria, and St. Irenaeus, who illuminate the path to Theosis. Discover their teachings on living a life that mirrors God's holiness and goodness, and how participating in sacraments and spiritual practices like fasting and prayer fosters this transformation.
Learn how Theosis begins with baptism, marking the initial step toward becoming divine through Christ. The journey involves a continuous effort to purify passions and model one's life after Christ. The Eucharist plays a crucial role in this process, offering not just physical nourishment but profound spiritual transformation. As St. Augustine beautifully explains, the Eucharist changes us into a divine likeness.
Explore the concept of the absolute primacy of Christ, proposed by Blessed John Duns Scotus, which suggests that Christ's incarnation was intended regardless of human sin. This idea redefines the purpose of creation, emphasizing that everything is meant to unite with Christ.
Understand Cyril of Alexandria's view that Christ's humanity bridges the gap, allowing humans to share in divine nature and become God's children. St. Irenaeus emphasizes living a life that mirrors God's holiness to attain immortality by sharing in the divine nature, while Hilary of Poitiers and St. Ambrose of Milan highlight the transformative power of Christ's incarnation and grace.
St. Basil's teachings on fasting reveal how spiritual disciplines help conquer passions, aligning actions with God's will. St. Maximus the Confessor explains how Christ, by uniting with human flesh, unites all creation to Himself, bridging the gap between the material and divine.
Theosis is more than a theological concept; it's a lived reality that brings the story of salvation to life. Through constant striving towards Christ, purification, and participation in the sacraments, Theosis transforms believers, allowing them to partake in the divine nature and participate in the cosmic symphony of salvation orchestrated by Christ.
This exploration invites you to delve into the profound teachings of Catholicism, revealing how Theosis offers a path to divine transformation, uniting humanity and creation with God’s ultimate plan. Discover the fullness of life and the divine potential within, as you journey towards becoming more like God.

This is for all the commenters who were wondering if this was blasphemous or where scripture supports this! Edit: 5:27 is supposed to read “anthrotheopany” 1. 2 Peter 1:4: “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” 2. John 10:34-35: Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came-and Scripture cannot be set aside.” 3. Psalm 82:6: “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’” 4. 1 John 3:2: “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” 5. Romans 8:29-30: “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” 6. 2 Corinthians 3:18: “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 7. Ephesians 4:13: “Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

IN the LDS faith this is the doctrine of exaltation. The greatest promise made to man is that he literally the offspring of God...created in the image of God and that our purpose for being here is to see if we will pursue the course that allows Him to exalt us (God will not do so against our will) The primary difference is that terms like essence, nature, created vs uncreated etc were added later to prevent this doctrine from being taken to its logical conclusion - which is that we will literally become like God - as you've demonstrated above in the scriptures. The ambiguous language came in the later centuries and the entire doctrine is essentially rejected by modern christianity.

It’s different in a few ways however, Catholics do not believe we will become Gods by essence, nor do they believe we will become Gods of our own planets. We will become gods emphasis on the little g because we will be joined up in Gods eternal action.

@@Esch-a-ton3 Interesting. This brings up a couple more questions: 1) do you acknowledge that the scriptures you cited don't make any distinctions related to essence or Big/little g? 2) Were they the result of too much faith and knowledge or too little? 3) If you weren't Catholic would you still accept them?

Great video. So it sounds like to sum everything up is that Theosis is the process of godliness, where one imitates Christ, not in essence, but in will & piety, where God grants divine grace through faith (which is defined as living a faithful sacramental life, where one continually denies himself & natural desires, generally done by fasting & penance, and participants in the sacraments, generally baptism & Holy Communion).

Show me where Jesus fasted, outside of His own spiritual journey, in the desert? His life was about feasting and sharing the feast. I do prefer the fish, as a symbol, to the cross. I know that I am not saved by "works", but working at a soup kitchen still seems like one of the most accessible and practical expressions of His ideas. Even John The Baptist ate locusts and honey, likely, to prove that he didn't require dependence on the city.

What if, instead of arguing about school lunches and UBI, we simply had free food, for everyone under 18 and over 90? We could literally afford to do that for American citizens. If families don't want the free food, that's just more for everyone who does need it. No one in America should be in a nutritional lack, if they cannot work. That is not their fault. The only problem that I could foresee is the immediate vultures who would attempt to sell cheap junk, but the entire idea would be to have HEALTHIER food, than simple canned, fried, or microwaved meals. It would be cheaper than universal healthcare and probably make a bigger impact, honestly. (How did we even get to a point of allowing mega-corps to convince people that Lunchables was healthy, lead, or no lead!?)

@@TwisterTornado Jesus indicated we were to fast *after* his Ascension into heaven. Fasting is an integral part of the Christian life, it is just something that Jesus did more privately: “ *When* you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to others to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.” (Matthew 6:16-18) AND Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.” (Matthew 9:15) The Christian life is about suffering, which centers around the Cross. The Cross is non-negotiable to be a Christian: Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:24)

We won’t be God in the sense that you all think, we won’t be equal to God in power and in knowledge but I think we will be with Jesus and can pray for our brothers and sisters there. We will be “married” to God in a way. That’s why Jesus calls us His bride.
@Esch-a-ton3
@Esch-a-ton3 3 месяца назад
I totally agree with the part on being the bride of Christ! However, there a couple Scripture verses that come to mind. 1 Corinthians 13:12, where Paul writes: “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” This seems like he's saying that we will know God completely and to know God completely is to know everything completely because God is the source of everything. And also, 1 John 3:2, which states: “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” But to be married to God is to be completely United to Him, and to be completely United to Him is to want exactly what he wants. That being said, if we are like him, we will have his power but with his power we will do exactly what he does because there's no separation between what He wants and what we want. So, we will have his power, not on our own but as a gift and we will do with it exactly what he does because we unified with Him.

This is the Way that Christ talks about. The world is collapsing into a pre-hellish state because of man’s pursuit to become God through human fallen means, building a technological Tower of Babel that spires higher and higher into the soaring sky. The apple of God’s eye, that is us, in Christ, are able to become gods by grace. Rather than taking painkillers, God’s grace strengthens us to tolerate any pain and suffering that He sends our way, instead of creating a virtual reality through technology and screens, we grow closer and closer to reality, truth beyond the 2/3/ or 4D. We try to become gods with a small g through limited concepts that we perceive to be supreme, but in actuality these things are lacking what we truly need, that’s Christ, through the sacraments, through the One, Holy, Apostolic Church of Eastern Orthodoxy. God bless our triumphant, glorified Orthodox Christians, and us, the Church Militant, still warring on earth! Lord have mercy on us all!

In the context of Christian mysticism, absolutely theosis (or divinization in the Western churches) is of paramount importance. Many Christians definitely don't see it that way, however. Then again, mysticism has always been part of the inner dimension of Christianity (and religion in general), and that's something the vast majority of Christians frankly are ignorant of or simply don't concern themselves with. Which is fine, I feel-I see no reason to insist upon a person viewing their relationship to God in a specific way. You don't have to be a mystic to find meaning in your faith.

The word mysticism has been ruined by other religions.
@StClare_

@allycatnaranjo8960 I don't necessarily agree with that. While the English word itself was probably originally applied to Christian practices, and perhaps Jewish and Gnostic ones, the fundamental basis of Christian mysticism in a direct experience of and spiritual transformation by the Absolute Reality is essentially something shared by a number of religious traditions in their own unique expressions of consciousness-transforming spirituality.

Theosis means, to become Gods by grace through union with God. Exactly like Saint Efrai of Arizona said, exactly like steel and fire that they are not the same but inside the forge they become one and you cannot separate where is the fire and where is the steel, as if they became one, this is exactly what will happen to the Furure Kingdom, mankind and God will unite in perfect union and will become one. This 'man' Jesus was an ethical genius at a time we're nobody was teaching such pure words. He became such a relevant person that even we today are speaking about him because he is in fact God in human form. No human could have done such an impact around the globe and even making the crucifixion cross from the Romans, which was a symbol of fear and death into a symbol of hope and his word. No human could have forgiven those people who killed him even though he lived a perfect life.. The feeling of anger and vengeance would overcome anybody, especially at that time. But he said: "Forgive them father" Did you know that within our DNA we have a certain structure that repeats.. That holds the DNA together.. This structure only appears after 10 nucleic acids have been laid down.. Then every 5, then every 6 and then every 5 again. So the repeating numbers are 10,5,6,5 and they never ever change in anybody. The name for God YHWH has the same numerical value. Yud - 10 Hei - 5 Vav - 6 Hei - 5 Every artist signs his creation. Mat 23:12 - But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who *humble themselves* will be exalted. Psa 8:1-9 - [[To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.]] O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; *What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?* *For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.* *Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:* *All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;* *The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.* O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Gen 1:1-31 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And *God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.* *So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;* male and female created he them. And *God blessed them,* and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and *have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.* And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Gen 24:11 And he made his camels to *kneel down* without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water. "Blessed, to kneel down"- barak www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/h1288/kjv/wlc/0-1/ 2Ch 33:12 - And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and *humbled himself* greatly before the God of his fathers, Phl 2:2 - Fulfil ye *my joy,* that ye *be likeminded,* having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Phl 2:5 - Let *this mind* be in you, *which was also in Christ Jesus:* Phl 2:6 - Who, being in the *form of God,* thought it *not robbery to be equal with God:* Phl 2:8 - And being found in fashion as a man, he *humbled himself,* and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Christianity is not about Man becoming God. It is about Man repenting from trying to be God and, instead, giving all glory to the true God Himself. God became Man as Jesus by His Blessed Virgin Mother Mary in order for Him to save us from our own self-deification. He died our death so He could raise us again to eternal life in Him.

This tells me you didn’t watch the video. They make great pains to define and distinguish what they mean by man becoming God. It’s not in the New Age sense or man attaining some actual equality with God. It’s about being transformed through faith and obedience to Christ in reflecting the image of God as newly created humans, which is the essence of the gospel.

God became a man to reveal God to men. To allow Himself to be sinned against by men to reveal the nature of men. To forgive those who recognize their sins against God and who desire to be changed to love God and others, asking to be in the Kingdom of God where this is the manner citizens relate to others. Once confessing their need and desire Christ gives these believing confessors the right to be citizens in His Kingdom.

But wouldn't that be a denial of what christ did for us on the cross by taking away the sins of the world. We are told that faith in the son is what saves by paul, jesus and every one of Jesus's followers. If the Trinitarian position is wrong then it is wrong because of scriptural misinterpretation. And therefore those who revere and imitate Christ but interpret the scriptures as lacking sufficient evidence for the trinitarian position are more accurately claiming to be Christian. the doctrine of putting your fingers in your ears and going LALALLALAALLALALALAA when somebody provides evidence that might come into conflict with dogma? That's the doctrine I see put into practice most often anyway

Only in the Orthodox Church, the True Original Church of Christ from 2000 years ago, can Theosis be found. I remind you that the term Theosis was conceived by the Holy Fathers of the Orthodox Church, and explained by them, as they are the ones who inherited the Apostles' Holy Spirit and teachings. Salvation outside the Orthodox Church is impossible.

That sounds like Gnosticism, not a belief in Jesus and by His grace alone.

@Hedgehogz856 Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, that is the Eastern Orthodox Church. Papists are not the real Catholics. Let us remember that Catholicism came with doctrines not present in the first 1000 years of Church history, including: - Papal Infallibility - Papal Supremacy - Absolute Divine Simplicity - Purgatory - Filipque and its present catechism suggesting a form of Arianism against the Holy Spirit, reducing the Holy Spirit to "a divine will" - Doctrine of created grace, on top of the Uncreated Grace - Immaculate Conception (this is blasphemy against the Mother of God!!) where you make the Theotokos' birth as free from the original sin, because you misunderstand the Concept of the Original Sin itself; the Theotokos was without sin, wholly innocent and Eternal Virgin, this still remains true, don't misunderstand - The wrong Concept of the Original Sin: people do not partake in the blame of the sin of Adam and Eve, but on its consequence, that is Death; the Theotokos was freed from this natural curse of humanity not at the time of her birth, but at the time she became pregnant with God the Word; at that time her womb became more glorified than the Heavens - your pseudo-church changed its doctrine of salvation outside the Catholic "Church" at the Second Vatican Council, and you came up with different levels of communion with the other churches; if you follow Church history, you should know an Ecumenical Council is supposed to be free from error.., so you not believing the teachings of your Council makes you a heretic not only for the Orthodox Church, but for your "Catholic Church" as well

By what standard? I’m gonna take a guess you're an evangelical protestant with no way of actually classifying heresy other than your own opinion, which presents a bigger problem than heresy. Could be wrong tho. Anyways, thanks for watching.

Do you think the Trinity is heresy too? Because the beginning quote originates from one of the biggest defenders of the Trinity way back when Arianism, a heresy denying that Christ shared the same divine essence with God the Father was running rampant.
