Geoff," How do we break the reactors?" Layne, "Toss in a violin?" (Voiceplay literally tosses in a violin, and breaks all the reactors, should be a Guiness record)
Geoff wanted it to look like the violin came out of thin air. I'd say they accomplished that very well. Amazing how they did that though. Layne's idea. A reverse in the video. He's actually throwing it instead of catching it.
@@AndieO I'm on their Patreon and watched the behind the scenes video. Geoff and Pattycake Productions as well. Those are my favorite part of being a patron. Learn alot about how the videos and about the guys and whoever they collaborate with.
So apparently that super high note was Eli. Iirc, Geoff didn't write it in, but when they recorded it, Eli decided to opt up on a take. The fact that that was basically done in a whim blows my mind!
@morganring8385I thought it was Eli too. It sounds like a note Eli could/would hit. However, it very well could be Cesar. For the longest time, I thought Eli hit the super high note in Dream On until I watched him and realized that, when he sings high, he moves his hands and/or arms up and he doesn't do that in Dream On. I personally think it's Eli but I'll concede if I'm wrong and it turns out to be Cesar.
‘I didn’t even sleep that well last night’ ‘this song is more effective than, like, a shot of espresso’ …while you are jogging. My face hurts from grinning
I watched it break Jennifer Glatzhofer, and they are normally on a similar wave for what gets them excited... although Mortius' reactions are normally a little more extreme....
I know everyone says vioLayne broke everyone, but for me it was the massive rock shout that did it. Eli knows his stuff--it's Metallica, it needs a shout.
This! Eli's shout gave me absolute chills and literally had me jumping around crowing, "ELI!!!" My husband now thinks I'm insane. 😂🤣 The violin had me in happy tears, but Eli had me jumping and shivering first so he gets the credit for the break! 🤣
Mason: Layne has played violin since grade school. That particular violin, not so much. It’s a cheap one for looks, not for sound. You can see him play more on their Warriors video, but again, the electric violin he used was for video. He did the actual recordings on his own personal instrument. You can see him playing that in some videos he made with his family on his personal channel. Or even better - see if you can find his video One Dance! Mortius: Maybe next time you’ll pay more attention to your comments. Sometimes they’re for your own protection!
As so many times before VoicePlay broke Mortius, but with a masterpiece of a cover like this it is really no surprise, and actually acceptable - even The Charismatic Voice was in awe over this one 😃 I actually loved the hearing you talk about the technical stuff and thereby bringing a deeper level of analysis into this ❤️
There are not many R & A videos I'll go back and rewatch in full, but everything about this from the buildup to the death by Violayne to the never ending conclusion is supremely enjoyable every single time!
After watching this a few times I pulled up Metallica and played them back to back. It was awesome! This is a huge homage to the original. I hope Metallica sees it! Geoff and Layne are superb arrangers, prodigies, geniuses! Their instincts for the arranging are phenomenal.
Eli hit the high note. He asked to do it. Layne is a classically trained violinist. I think over 10 years. J None also plays it. And of course Eli spent 2 years on the road with a rock band.
Voiceplay... listen... this is not allowed... you cannot take one of my favourite songs.. and make a better version of it.... not allowed! Also.... did you have to break Mortius? I guess you did at that.. well done. Love the analysis Mortius
Ha ha you're broken. I love your reactions, your laughter, your enthusiasm when something unexpected happens. Keep doing what you do. You make me smile :D
My family of neurodivergents and I always look forward to seeing your reaction videos because of how we can so closely relate to your experiences. THANK YOU for just being so authentic. We really, truly appreciate it. This song broke us, too!
I’m there too. I love Mortius partially because he reacts much like I do. (Only he understands a lot more about music construction than I do) Except I’ve learned to be laying down for VP releases. Or at least in a chair with my feet up. That way when something is so good I forget to breathe I don’t have to worry about lightheadedness. ☺️
I swear Geoff is part saltwater Crocodile 🐊 with some of those low sounds/growls and the way he just casually burps the note during VioLayne in NEM, it’s funny seeing the reactions because VioLayne already breaks them then Geoff just casually burps his note midway through, but Mortius this has been the BEST reaction I’ve seen to NEM, hopefully you recover ok because they broke BROKE you(never seen you this broken before in a reaction video)
Another epic masterpiece by VoicePlay! They are the best!! I believe that high right before VioLayne is Cesar. Yes, Layne plays the violin, and so des JNone, you can see them both in Warriors. Yep, I was pretty sure this one was gonna break you! 🔥
actually I think during the premier Geoff said the super high note is Eli, he just doesn't normally like doing those highs because they hurt his voice. Apparently Geoff didn't even ask him for that, he just thought the song needed it!
An excellent and thoroughly enjoyable reaction! I’m glad you picked up on the Geoff “foom!” I caught those just after I finished rendering my video and decided not to go back. Hope that floor was padded at least with a rug! ;-)
Thank you Mortius! Your reaction is awesome and perfect as always. This is my favourite Metallica track and VoicePlay did it so darn well. The original can make me cry but VP had me crying from a minute in all the way to the end...
Yeap mortius are broken 😂😂 Very very good reaction I loooove this cover. J none come back, Eli the rock beast, Layne become Violayne, Cesar are fabulous and Geoff .... Doing Geoff things
When they released Warriors nearly 3 years ago vioLayne broke me. I've been waiting ever since for another taste... and finally... could NOT be better. So, so happy.
Yes, Mason, Layne, aka VioLayne, really does play the violin and has done so for years. He also plays it on VoicePlay's cover of Warriors (showing J the proper technique for him to "play "in the video).
I have been waiting for this reaction!! Wonder how long it will take to break him?? You are the first reactor to bring up that note that Ceasar hits when the vioLayne comes in, Thank you!! HAHA YOU BROKEN
24:21-25:21 As I predicted from watching a multitude of reactions before watching this reaction. Classically trained "VioLayne" would undoubtedly be the source in the breaking of Mortius
Haha, you broke mortise again, but please react to home free sea shanty medley. I don't know if you've ever heard of that song, but also, you are my favorite reactor besides Kaz Brock. Still, whenever you fall to the ground, I am with you on that because Geoff and Tim Foust, and Avi Kaplan have that on me, and also I need to know how long you have been a fan of voice play and home-free but also who is your favorite basses singer.
VoicePlay: saving Mortius (and us) all the gym fees in musical adrenaline (Editor: I was enjoying this so much I forgot your name AGAIN but well done, this must have taken a lot of work and hard decisions) One of the reasons I love your reactions is all I can say is "holy shite they play so well with timing and rhythm, but you can actually explain why it works
This broke me too when I first watched it last week it feels like they get better every time they post something it is insanity. I have had this on repeat since it came out, I always start my day by listening to this song because it just pumps me up for the day. They did such a phenomenal job on this and I am literally so proud of them. And your reaction to it was amazing, I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the whole video. Thanks for the amazing reaction!!💜
My jaw dropped and I had tears actively streaming down my face when I first saw this. I was so excited to see your reaction to it. Several parts made me think "Mortius is going to LOVE this". Ha ha, you broken! Loved your reaction to this, and your break down of the piece. Always so fun to hear your input (as well as your explanations). Hope you're doing better now, and thank you for a fun video/reaction!
I hope you have recovered meanwhile. I watch all your VoicePlay reactions from the first to the last second and I love them. 🥰 They are all so refreshing and charming, but this one today was a highlight for me. I really enjoy how you discover and feel their music. All the best.
I think that, because we haven’t seen anything from Kaz in a few days, Voiceplay broke her completely and she’s sitting in a chair rocking back and forth with her arms around her knees.
ha ha, you broken (but not really, I'd never laugh at you for that). Oh, and @Magicmason1000 -- Yes, Layne actually plays violin -- according to comments I've seen on other reactors' videos, he's had 11 years classical training. Also, he (and J. None, for a bit) plays violin in their cover of Imagine Dragons's "Warriors" (to which "Dream On" is 'part two').
Haha, you broken. 😉 But seriously, don't feel bad. This one is breaking reactors in much the same way that Hoist the Colours did. Remember that old ditty? Remember when we couldn't imagine VoicePlay ever topping it? Yeah. Crazy, isn't it? These guys just aren't real.
I am not sure if it is a good thing to say that i do love it when the groups break you :D There is something adorable in your enthusiasm , plus I love Masons editing as well. I watched a few other reactors before your one and i knew they would break you :D Maybe invest in a crash pad on the floor for voice play reactions :D I always liked this song from Metallica and I was very excited to see it being covered.
And VioLayne breaks another reactor. As does Voiceplay. This is their best by far. Awesome reaction to an amazingly awesome song Mortius. Been waiting patiently impatiently for your reaction. This is my absolute favorite. Can't get enough of it. Listen to it as much as I can. Metallicapella😊 Love ya ❤
I've been waiting for your reaction. It was exactly what I thought it would be. I am so glad you caught and mentioned the "Yeah". I feel like so many reactors missed it. And ha ha you broken (which I knew you would be).
Mortius, please take care of yourself! As someone with bad knees myself...I feel your pain. I believe Geoff hits E1 on his low notes in this and love how he kinda cues you in to it with his hand. I watched the original video by Metallica after their cover and Layne is doing the violin part based off the guitar solo in the original.
I LOVE your reaction! I learned so much from your analysis, and your enthusiasm was amazing and infectious! I loved that you just needed to let it all sit with you at the end. With something so life-changing, you just need to process... ❤
Happy 2023 Mortius,.....you haven't been 'broken' ALREADY, have you? ALL reactors had their OWN 'jaw dropping' moment in this cover......Pace yourself, it is goin to be a 'bumpy' year, if VoicePlay is starting off the year THIS 'hard'......>^^
Its 1am and i am falling asleep as I’m writing but as a vp patreon, we tried to warn you! And now it broke you, a bit too hard hahaha. Amazing reaction and I hope you are doing fine after all this ^^ (and yess we watch outros! There have been Ella content there at times hehe
I was paying special attention to the "instruments" which are crucial for a rock song. Layne was great percussion, of course, and Geoff was both rhythm and bass guitars. They had it all covered. Oh, and I was anxiously waiting for VioLayne to play...and you did not disappoint. This one is one of many (most?) the almost Require repeated watchings. There is just so much to take in. Sorry they broke you but it was worth it, right? 😉
Great job! You are right on many accounts. It is emotionally satisfying. Just listening can wear a person out! The build ups and fades were like riding a rollercoaster. The vocals were outstanding all the way around. They brought their best to the table. Thanks to Goeff, who knew this needed a baseline. Layne^ s violin was a thing of beauty. Caesar stood out by backing and entering the fray beautifully. J None was perfect soloing and dueting. Eli was amazing and threw himself all in. Mortius, an outstanding analysis!
I think we were all expecting the rock tenor from Eli, but I thought J.None really shone on this one. The range was totally in his vocal sweet spot and love the resonance in his voice throughout!
Haha, *we all* broken ❤ as a spicy neurodivergent who frequently struggles with communicating how I'm feeling and why (especially with music, doubly so for a capella), thank you for both reacting as your truest self and vocalizing both the feelings I'm feeling when I listen to this and songs like it and why I'm feeling those feelings. You're a wonderful reactor, a fantastic human, and a true blessing upon the world, thank you for all you do and all you are 💗🎻🎶
I love watching your reactions. You have such visceral reactions to music! And to top it off, you're quite informative. Pure joy 😊 I watched your Premiere and came back to watch again. I don't often give it multiple watches. Thank you for this one.
Yo, someone needs to check on Mortius. I think VoicePlay broke him... again! Also, did y'all see Geoff's arrangement after the violin solo? He doesn't let us come crashing down after the solo. It feels like they're floating us down gently back down to earth. More than hearing it, it feels that way.
I’ve heard from people that have access to the VP patreon chat that it was Eli on the top note during the scream and that Geoff had actually not asked him to sing it that way, he just did it.
I feel kind of guilty about the anticipation with which I waited for your reaction.. Almost like waiting for the result of a lab experiment 🙈 Hopefully you won't stay broken for too long. It's exhilarating, I agree ❤️
Haha, you broken! But yeah. This one has been breaking reactors left, right and center. Which is fine, because I think a few of us regular folks were a bit broken, too. That was a lot of everything we love about Voiceplay, after all! Though, hopefully next time you'll listen when we tell you to start your reaction on the floor! (Hope your knees are doing better now.)
Thank you Mortius for yet another wonderful, informative, and very entertaining reaction. I just love how in to these productions you get. Also, you brought to my attention quite a few things I never heard the first time I heard this. Keep up the good work...This is my favorite Metallica song, and nailed it, and one upped it with Voiceplay flair, like none other.
Your reactions are the best and most wholesome thing in my day. I was waiting SO excitedly for your video on this one. It blows me away every time. (Also, haha you broken)
