Breakdown of all my gear and equipment to climb everest. Let me know in the comments if you want more details on anything specifically Instagram: ryanmitchellyt
After everest now, just wanted to throw out there this video is very inaccurate / poorly done. I was getting 20 views when i posted this and was really just doing whatever without really thinking about it - maybe will make an updated version one day with better information haha
I enjoy this level of video to show everyone has to start somewhere. If you do another version, please don't remove this one. Seeing the growth is great and shows that we all were noobs at some point and that shouldn't stop anyone from setting big goals.
Hey bro, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you making these videos. I am paralyzed from the waist down due to a mining work related injury. Since then I have spent years in and out of hospitals and nursing facilities after various surgeries and in that time I became fascinated by mountain climbing vids and documentaries (especially Everest ones). So cool to see all the gear, the costs, and even small explanations of the workings of all the equipment used to climb the world’s highest peaks. I will be tuning into all of your updates and I want you to know you have somebody rooting for you back in AZ, USA! You got this bro!
Your humility throughout this journey, even in this video when you say "not really sure what this does yet" is encouraging to many as it reminds us that everyone is a beginner at some point. Well done and thanks for being humble in your approach to everything
It’s not humility, not to be disrespectful but it’s ignorance. People who are that inexperienced should not climb Everest. Said that, I wish him good luck and i’ll watch his journey with interest
Thanks so much for the videos of your successful climb and the gear review. Because I’ve always been fascinated by Everest (its history, etc., ) but too “chicken and old” to do it, you’re coverage actually made me feel like I was up there too. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Take care up there. Good luck.
Amazing how fast that stuff adds up. Not a mountaineer, and will never need 99% of that stuff. I will say even investing in quality gear makes a huge difference. In this case more important when you consider you are putting your life on the line. For me, I used to by the cheapest stuff. "Oh that will do" Until I started developing issues with my shoulders and base of my neck. (partly due to age, and partly due to using crappy gear for so long) I finally invested in a good Osprey pack. It's been a Godsend. It fits like a glove, and totally takes the weight off my shoulders. The hip belt actually supports my back as well.
Very interesting watch, Thanks. Just down to earth "this is what I bought" Love it. Alot of great simple info of what to start looking for for any type of mountaineering adventure.
Coming here to watch the beginning, since I've watched your Everest videos. I would be extremely interested in hearing about your other climbing experiences, especially Denali because that mountain has a super tough reputation.
Lol I wish I could go back in time to tell you to bring another hat. Your 4 hour video was absolutely superb. Thank you for sharing the view. Congratulations
I saw you in Alan's youtube video last year. And probably didn't realize that you would make your own RU-vid series about your trip. (probably because English is not my native language) I'm sorry I missed your videos. I'll have to look at them now in retrospect. big CONGRATULATIONS for making it.💪🏼🥇
This is super interesting! Very excited to watch your progress, and hopefully your success of standing on the roof of the world. Subscribed and wishing you safety on your adventures.
I hope that you get the chance to show us "what's in my pack" at the various stages - especially what you carry at the high camps. Something I've always wondered about😊.
Almost time to start your adventure! Can’t wait to watch your progress 😊 Oh you should wash the cat scent off your clothes I hear there are Yeti’s up there!
I just watched your descent from Everest, rappelling with that figure eight thingie. Super scary. Extra scary to hear you say in this video: “I don’t really know how this works.” Yikes! I’m glad you learnt about it between this video & the descent!
That cat bit you to get you ready for the comments. No worries this is an interesting series and you showed some stuff that most people don't - the climbing videos are great. Ignore the negative ninnies.
I definitely couldve done more but Everest isnt that technical of a climb so i didnt worry about it too much - But yeah that is a great spot! my guide took me there when i initially was learning crampons ice axe etc. new hampshire is underrated
I must say you are a beast! I was following your climbing. Best footage I've ever seen. You definitely made it look easy. I know it's definitely not easy. What is your next climb..K2??
Not trying to be morbid or anything here but I've always wondered... so say you're on like Hillary Step or something, and all of a sudden your gut rumbles and you get 'the runs'. What do you do? What can you do?
A black cat laying on your Everest climbing gear may be a terrible omen to start the trip my guy, especially one that bites you! But I’m rooting for you and thank u for showing us what gear it actually takes to make the climb!
I've been curious why you climbed the summit with mittens instead of gloves. I realize the mittens are cold rated but it seems like you would need the dexterity. Can you speak about that at some point? I'm a detail person so I'm curious about the details that got you there. This info about the food and gear and packing explained a lot! Thanks.
I always love a good gear video.... you seem to be well trained, researched and well kitted out..... be careful on the way down with the belay kit if not used before.... but overall go for it and make some memories 💪👊
Cool to see all the gear and depressing at the cost of it all🤣🤣. You didn’t seem super sure about a lot of the gear or what you had actually bought/ the use for a lot of it. I assume whoever you booked with sent you a list of stuff to get? Did they send you specific brands and models of stuff to get? Don’t think I’ll ever do Everest nor be able to afford it but besides the mega high altitude clothing I actually seem to own it all besides the figure of 8 descender. Also just want to add it’s not great to store your expensive sleeping bags compressed like that. You only want to compress down sleeping bags when you need to pack them etc. keeping them compressed when stored for long periods of time can result in them not lofting as good when used meaning they don’t work as well as they should.
Dude it amazes me that these people don’t know how to use a belay device or which type of belay/rap device is what and yet they are climbing 8k peaks 😂☠️
I like how you recorded the trip. Puts you right with you. But this video you should have been a little more serious and to the point. Otherwise. A great adventure thanks and good luck in all your travels
You obviously put no effort into making this video. The whole first 3 min that I was able to watch is “I don’t know what any of this stuff actually costs” and “I don’t even know what some of this stuff is called”
interesting to see the gear but the video would have profited from you thinking about what you wanted to say/do and what the things were called before turning on the camera. this way it is kind of hard to listen to.
Thanks for the feedback! Definitely couldve made it more essay like - my goal with these videos is to be as authentic as possible so no script cuts etc. (unless needed) but on a video like this which people may actually be wanting to get info from it couldve been useful
I’m 55, retired and I think it’s great that you are doing something awesome with your money. There is no guarantee in life except death. You have plenty of time to plan your retirement after you have a little fun. Even the wealthy old people I live around are one bad day in the stock market exchange from poverty. I’ve always been intrigued by Mt Everest documentaries and movies and bumped into your channel recently. I pray for a safe journey and that you are proud of your accomplishments no matter how many feet you make on your climb.
If I bought the boots , when they get home I would open them and look at them and then say, “ now I just have to climb Everest “. I wouldn’t do it cuz I’m lazy. The end.
lol so many butt hurt people complaining that Ryan is a rich privileged white kid blah blah, not crediting the sherpas etc. 1. He made his own money. 2. The sherpas get paid and do it for a living. Ryan was really appreciative of them the entire summit and pointed out how amazing they are at what they do. Do ya’ll post videos every time you fly in a plane thanking the pilot for being “the true hero”? 😂don’t think so
To bad the clothes etc are made in China. Its a total rip off paying 1000 for a snow suit. Similar to Starbucks selling thermal cups for $30 Thanks for the video.
I watched every video you put up the past few weeks about your Ascent on everest. But bro damn do you live in an old lady's house? Lol. Tacky. I bet there's plastic on the couch lol
This is what Himalayan climbing and especially Everest has devolved into. Someone with little to no climbing experience, with obviously close to no technical knowledge of the gear that their life depends on, but has the funds can literally buy their way up the mountain. Not trying to take anything away from Ryan, seemed to have no trouble on the mountain, but... when did high altitude Himalayan mountaineering on Everest become the mountain to cut your teeth on? I dont understand the allure or sense of accomplishment achieved by walking up a mountain with a Sherpa clipping and unclipping your fixed lines for you. I wonder if he has any technical climbing experience or has just been a client on non technical guided expeditions.
You've just pointed out the major problems with everest. You don't even know what half your kit is for which means you'll have no idea how to use it. Gobsmacked that you've gone up everest and you don't even know what a figure 8 is
I'm wondering if during the trek time the expedition holds classes on gear and when and how it will be used specifically for the more technical parts of the climb?
@marywardcoaching everest isn't the place to learn how to use basic climbing equipment. Experienced climbers die up there every Yr. Every inexperienced person that has a few quid that goes up there puts other people, especially the sherpas at risk
@@stevewomble2337 I was thinking of my now retired US Army husband who probably never used a belay before rappelling down what he always called bottomless crevasses during the 3 week Northern Warfare Training at Ft. Greely. Even at Air Assault he rappelled out of a helicopter after a short training. The whole course is only 2 weeks. I'll have to ask him how much he knew prior. Definitely see your point though. I'm curious how much training and prep followed what I think was this early video. And I'm curious if you have to rappel during a Denali climb. The whole process is well above my pay grade! I just got interested after seeing a few climbing reels on FB and reading Krakauer. Yikes! I'll stick to snorkeling in calm waters.
Hopefully you have a lot of money saved to tip your porters and sherpas way more than the usual it’s not enough for these people to support their families my friend in college with me is on full scholarship here and is of sherpa ethnicity from Nepal and his family could have never afforded to give him an education and he lost his father in a mountaineering accident when he was young.
Absolutely! Im climbing with Madison Mountaineering whose definitely on the higher price range - they pay their sherpas and porters super well and I’ll also be tipping them as such
@@RyanMitchellYT great to hear! I’m sure these comments must be tiring but that the same Time I’m sure you must also understand them as well especially with how much Everest and its overcrowding (yes it has recently gotten slightly better) have been I. The news and then also when people see films like K2 which is about the k2 disaster and it fails to mention and give recognition the most important people to getting anyone off that mountain especially Pemba Sherpa and the two other Sherpa that climbing back up and lost their lives trying to save the Korean climbers (they did not want to because of dangerous but felt obligated because of culture and constants berating from the Korean leader). All in all tho good luck dude as my friend bibatshu says those mountain have no mercy for no man
They way you talk about this guy without knowing him is really disgusting. Go leave society and live with your cute little animals in the wilderness if you hate humans so much.
I definitely didn’t forget them. I have another video explaining all my costs and how that ties in - this was simply my physical gear. I dont look at my sherpa as an object i buy and to be included in my “gear list” I appreciate your concern though! Im very excited to meet my sherpa and will give lots of credit to on this channel and as i make videos about the climb
@@RyanMitchellYTthat would be wild if you listed Sherpa people in your gear list 😂😢 Def would be cool to have a video dedicated to interviewing your Sherpa when you get there (if he feels comfortable of course) and also I think it would be cool if you mentioned in a video how Sherpa is actually an ethic group while many people just associate it with the job of a mountain guide
Yea, not accurate at all. Ryan had another very successful RU-vid channel playing Minecraft - 1.8m subs. He paid for all of this himself, including the actual expedition
@@RyanMitchellYTdon’t worry about these toddlers commenting stuff like this. Unfortunately you’ll probably get more people like this as you progress, but I think what you’re doing is very cool and ambitious. You’re a sharp dude and I’m looking forward to following your journey. Good luck!
The difference is if you even bothered to mention the sherpas in your video. by saying nothing you're not neutral, you're erasing them, unfortunately. RU-vid comment world aside, I hope you take this to heart for next time.
@@mattjax16 You were just talking nice to him in other comments no your talking smack. lol hell be fine and were all gonna watch his progress. If you cant make a living guiding then dont do it just like every other career choice in life. whinnig about other people decions on the internet is the most toddler thing you could do. Being upset a younger man has nicer gear then you and pocket watching him is crazy. of course you throw climate change in their is that ryans fualt too lol
