The finals didn’t die. And if it did, it certainly wasn’t because of cosmetics. People left because of bad decisions on game modes and ranked play. It’s still getting ~15k players
Simple math. Those games make money out of skins, the more characters a player has access to, the higher the chance of them buying a skin, because they already have access to the character that skin was made to. The money they will make out of ppl paying for characters is nothing compared to the money they make from skins.
10k players being considered dead is crazy to me, the games not dead till I cant play and its not like the finals or other games take longer than a minute to find a match

So rivals announced that all characters will be free on launch and whenever released post-launch too so I mean I’m optimistic just hope for more game modes and maps but I’m sure they will have some good maps and modes
If The Finals dies imma crash out, it's really do love that game TBH. I know "micro transactions bad" but they're so inoffensive and genuinely good that it's no issue. The battlepass feels like good progression, and once I beat it early I still play for the loop and for the fun moments with The Boys.
This guy just said the game was dead because it has micro transactions which most other games have a form of that. Then also his reason was because we don’t know the dev team. That makes no sense. Embark is a new studio so the way they make it to the top is by making games!
How are free to play games supposed to stay up if they can’t make any kind of money…? Battle passes and cosmetics shops are usually the way to go. Sometimes they suck. Sometimes they don’t. It’s a mixed bag
Not to be the guy who defends companies but the info in The Finals bit is just flatout wrong, people interested in the game keep just seeing this hate-bait content The game launched with 3 maps (Monaco, Seoul, Vegas) and since then got one map per season (SYS$HORIZON, Kyoto) and a new one is about to begin with a new one, speculated to be Rome for the *6th map.* One map per season is reasonable (they're not small maps and each of them have a bunch of gameplay/terrain and weather variants the game mixes from) It did launch with 2 gamemodes, (Cashout and Bank-it), and there are *5 unique ones now* (not counting ranked-unranked variants as separate); World Tour (new name for Cashout tournaments with a leaderboard) Terminal Attack (ranked and unranked version) Quick Cash Bank-It Power Shift, + not to mention limited time gamemode variants. The game isn't "dead"- it just lost the initial hype from when every youtuber made a video on it, but since then it has had a steadily okay playerbase. Would you call Helldivers 2 dead? It took a bigger dip in popularity %-wise in player count.
The criticism on skins is kinda valid as the team went on vacation recently actual content slowed down this season, but you cannot say that their monetization is predatory. You can earn enough currency to buy the Battle Passes as a completely f2p player in under 3 seasons (in 2 seasons if you invite one friend through a referral link), and each season gets you almost twice as much of that currency as you need to buy the next one. You can also buy items from bundles separately (e.g you only want the hat from a skin, you can buy just the hat for like 20% of the whole bundle's price).
@@strvmpet also a very valid point. At least the original VAs are paid for their voice samples the synthetised voice is trained on, that is what kept me from leaving the game but i dont appreciate the ai voice in itself either yeah

ESPECIALLY not the type of people who play a competitive shooter like the finals. Also @PeterPq , slight clarification on your maps point, the game launched with 4 maps, you missed skyway stadium. the next map will be the game’s 7th map
I can't say for the rest of the games. But 2XKO is gonna be a hit. It might be "dead' by other games standards, but all fighting games have a sharp decline pretty quick. Particularly ones made with characters from non FGC series. Yeah, we're gonna probably see hundreds of thousands of people try 2XKO for a couple weeks, but then people will realize its still a fighting game, and then probably stay around 20-30k daily players for the future, so "dead" by you're definition, but probably still top 3 of FGs up with Street Fighter 6.

Valve are the kings of making games last forever and those fuckers run their live service games on stale cereal and vibes. The game could be over run with cheaters and bots spamming slurs in chat with no content update in sight and it would crack 50k concurant players consistently. For christ sake the top game on steam right now is a rushed buggy broken mess of a game released by Valve a year too early with basically no anti-cheat. How the Hell do these guys get away with it?
Ok good argument... Artifact, dota underlords. I'm a deadlock crack addict who already played for 100 hours but valve did fuck up twice before. First with artifact being a pay to play PvP card game (worse decision ever made) and dota underlords that was just outperformed by Dota autochess (the mod it was based on)

the most a skin in a game should be is like 10 bucks imo and even then ik some will say that’s too high. but in comparison to the 20, 50, or hell 500 dollar cosmetics I feel like we should’ve drawn a line a far longer time ago
I was worried you were going to put deadlock as a dead aftwr one month there. With how polished it already is in early access, and how many people are playing and talking about it just from a share link early access. I foresee a HUGE shift in people leaving overwatch, and TF2, and going to Deadlock. Because its a game that's finally done something different, it gave a hero shooter lanes and dota denies, item shop, no passive income, you get only what you deserve. I might be glazing, but I think Deadlock has a very very bright future. If they do cosmetics like with dota that you can buy and sell on marketplace as well. It's going to be top tier money making like Dota as well
I get the want for paid game with proper progression, but having a paywall to a game makes it way harder to get into and cycle in new players. Spectre would be more likely to die as a paid game when valorant would be a free alternative thats had years to grow and the riot name behind it, vs it being free and not hurt to try leading to more exposure and actually having people seeing if they like it than writing it off. Everyone said that battlebit was way better than the newest battlefield yet it has lower player count than bf 2042
I dont think the Finals is dead because they can still fix it in season 4 and the Game itself has an estimated 280,000 unique players per day across all platforms
With all do respect boss man Toko I think this video was pretty poorly explained and was straight up wrong in many areas. I think it's a bit disingenuous to say that "All these games are going to die" and then have most of the games you talk about be ones that aren't even out yet. Like brother only 2 games on here are actually released and 2 others (2XKO & Deadlock) you say are probably not going to die (???). It's weird cause at the beginning you say "We see this time and time again" but then you don't show any examples of games that have, in the literal sense, died. You were even just flat out wrong about Marvel Rivals locking characters behind a paywall, meaning another point for your argument is just straight up dookie. It feels like two different videos were stitched together. One about how bad monetization is in LS games, and the other about fast modern games die out. The only point you made that applied to both of these was really multiversus, everything else was either one category or neither (cause they aint even out yet). He's saying if games continue with the monetization practices that they do it's not hard to see the game will die in less than a year. It's not that hard to get we don't need examples this year has been full of them. This video was solid you just have too smooth a brain to not see the patterns.
My main worries about Marvel Rivals are the maps, game modes and performance optimizations. They are going to have such an easy time with character additions compared to other games who have to create brand new ones.
By the way there are games that are free that are good they just die after a while because they either don't add new content or the devs just abandoned them and the other thing is there are some free games that can have progression and also have options to pay money most development teams nowadays don't really care they just want the money which is a real disappointment
You left out the games that are thriving that use the "Fortnite formula" that you constantly never take the time to define, nor address the differences between. I made this video in a like 2 days, I can't cover every game in existence 😭 Fr tho, there are games that DO find some success with the FTP model, but they feel like the exception, not the rule. Hence why I made this video. I have simply watched too many games that I absolutely love fade into obscurity to the point where I felt obligated to talk about it and one of the main reasons for their shortcomings I believe to be directly related to their unnecessary use of Fortnite's previously successful model.
@Its_Toko I didn't ask you to cover "Everything in existence." I asked you to be thorough and consistent. Though I do respect the time taken to reply, a claim as large as "It will be dead in a month" requires more weight behind your evidence than displayed here. Was the tone of the video leading you to believe I was actually 100% dead serious about these games dying after one month? (I put out a poll on my RU-vid community tab about this) The entire point of the video is to use a really exaggerated reoccurring joke of "All these games are going to die after one month" in order to shed light on an the observation I've made that lot of ftp games tend to fall off relatively quickly. I would then 180 this satire and reveal that I actually DO want these games to all succeed because I enjoy them all very much! I was NOT trying to make any sort of bold claim but I can definitely see how it can be interpreted that way. Perhaps I am just not very good at showing pure satire quite yet.

I feel like there is something really powerful under the hood of this video and your points I do hear, and I also stand beside you in seeing good games die (Rest in peace Titanfall 2.) The video however does feel a little murky in the message it's trying to send under the heavy-handed sarcasm and nihilism. Your use of the chapters tool is brilliant, it helped my personal watch of the video. As stated before however, I find most of my personal stance on the video lies in the fact that the generalization does little in way of helping these games stay alive. I agree voting with your dollar is a good thing, but I feel pointing to good indies, and putting forward suggestions to change in-game systems (wishful thinking or not) would be both a productive, and enjoyable experience for those interested in both you and the topics covered. I think free to play games need start doing a thing where you can buy in for like 30 bucks and start unlocking cosmetics. Like while its still free to play you can essentially "buy the game" and either unlock a progression system or earn skins you want rather than filler battle pass garbage.

Deadlocks probably going to have monatization similar to dota 2 All characters are free by default, you can get some free cosmetics via grinding, sometimes you get some free items for characters (dota has item sets so you can basicly mix and match skins) As a f2p dota 2 player id say its going to be monotized fine, deadlock was confirmed to be f2p on launch im pretty sure and there seems to be a progression system for each character wich im assuming its like dota

Don't know why we are pulling arbitary numbers with zero research. the game launched with 4 maps at least you got that correct but it also launched with 4 modes. "They make sure the cosmetics are updated once every 5 minutes" it's free to play.... how do you think they make their money? Not to mention the cosmetics are of vastly superior quality than any other game on the market and I and 99% of the finals player base will stand by that.

Deadlock and 2XKO will thrive, for sure. Not talking as a fanboy, but as a developer and gamer for a long ass time. Marvel Rivals can do good, but NetEase is the publisher and "dev" of this one, sooo...
Honestly, if they make 2XKO characters free, and the cosmetics payed, I wouldn't mind. For me the gameplay is what matters. Or, they could give us free cosmetics, and then have some base characters and DLC characters. Kinda like what strive does, just without the paid-for-extra-colors. DLC characters being pay-to-win? Now, this is a thing in FPS, but not in fighting games. Fighting games do not *have* pay to win. Even with games like strive. There is always a skill potentiap for your character. And the more that you play them, the more people you beat. It's a direct corresponding feedback, that will beat pay to win if it ever comes to the fighting game genre. Which is why i'm so faithful that fighting games will make a comeback if 2xko ends up being the fighting game for people who didnt play them before.

Sadly, the reload kills that game for me if they made the reload like a second i would have 200x more fun reload just puts the game on hault for to long. I play alot of mobas and having your basic attack on cool down feels bad
@@domicci4460 Characters have different reload times like how Pocket has an absurdly long one but Yamato has a pretty average one. It's also a way to balance certain heroes and the pacing of laning. Either way, treat your ammo as a valuable resource. Slide to give yourself brief infinite ammo, or use items that help with reloading like Active Reload or Quicksilver Reload. The time you spend reloading is a resource within itself, so don't CoD reload too much and make your shots count.
@@domicci4460 that's where a bit of a skill thing comes in tbh - slidin gives you infinite ammo and you can repeat slide back down the stairs when shooting the 1st guardian - or learning to last hit creep only and their orbs - or find a character with an ammo/fire rate type you prefer
I've never heard anyone complain about the cosmetics in the finals, and even if you want to say its dead its not for that reason. (plus I think they try to add new weapons before maps and modes, they are trying to fix the current modes right now so they aren't going to make new ones soon)
Most of the detaila u wrote on those games were wrong. Yes i see some gets predatory but saying some games are "dead" is a strong and ultimately wrong statements. We can say helldivers had a massive % lower playerbase now but it doesn't make it dead. Why? Cuz it doesn't matter until there isn't enough players to sustain the game. No hate on you but do remember to research whatever topics ur researching on, it is EXTREMELY damaging to games in general when u say such strong claims. Is the video entertaining? Yes. Embark Studio devs are relatively more old school than most of the Riot devs nowadays, maaaad disrespect man. True that they fucked up after they made the game though I guess they're only good at making the game and nothing else it seems.
Doesn't the f2p model work when the focus isn't just money? I always thought a big reason Overwatch 1 died is just because they stopped making money from it. Its just kind of like, why update game when everyone owns it already? Seems insanely fair and reasonable to me to have to spend money to get a pointless optional cosmetic, the people who actually want it buy it and fund the experience for everyone.
... Multiversus died for reason past the game itself and the fact it's FTP. It's so fucked up I don't have time for it. 2xko is literaly riot owned so it will not be dropped on a dime and already has many players in beta. And kept thoses players each subsequent betas and event acess. Deadlocked is already getting massive numbers. Despite being closed acess. And you might say "lol multiversus" but multiversus is a whole other storry. It's actualy pretty dumb tbh. Deadlock doesn't have thoses issues. Marcel rivals doesn't look like the kinda games that just fail. Low numbers after a huge rise. Maybe. But considering the quality we've seen for now. And the fact it's marvel. I'm pretty sure the game will have a few thousands players on ste for 5 years at the very least. Split gate 1 was amazing. And didn't lists it's players over time. Kinda like what I expect of marvel rivals. But it wasn't a given. Split gate 2 already looks amazing. And fill the gaps left by the first one being a random arena shooter made by smaller team. The other I agree or don't know them.

I am not against FtP Games having In-Games Purchases but in my opinion they could try to do something else than Battle Pass & Cosmetic Shops Like for example Marvel Rivals could add a Single/Co-Op PvE Mode that's PtP
The finals is in no way a dead game lol. As long as a game has over 10k players it's in a very healthy state. TF2 had less than the Finals currently does prior to it it going f2p, and that is on PC only. No one was calling TF2 a dead game in the first couple years of its life. The Finals also has xbox and ps players.
How is the finals ‘dead’ because of the cosmetics? To be fair they don’t update as much as I’d like but they have a super small team and at least the updates they make are cool. I just don’t see cosmetics being something that has been detrimental to this game

Maybe part of the problem is people not realizing from the very start objectivity Fortnite has always been overrated and is a bad game not just by itself but bad for gaming as a whole and destroyed gaming in the modern era.
Your take on the finals is terrible. One because their cosmetics are crazy good and the most fair priced compared to any other game. Also 6 maps, many variants, and 5+ modes depending on how you look at it. We all want it to succeed and theres still a large playerbase
i need progresion, i need a number that goes up when i finish a match independently if i win or loose the match, just put something that i can grind, i play 3 matches of these games and think they are super fun and then not playing ever again because theres nothing to play for

I don't think marvel rivals or 2xko will die after a month the games have way too much hype behind them and as someone who played 2xko the game is just too fun and interesting for it to go out in a month now will people move to other games after a month just to take a break very likely but i don't think the two will die. Otherwise i do agree some companies do make questionable decisions like making most of the game paywalled and while it's likely skins in those skin may cost money I'm sure characters in 2xko and some variety of colors/skins will be available for the earnable currency
Rumbleverse was peak, first off. second, good valve games don't die, big astrisk, the good ones. deadlock is currently decent, could be better by launch. third point, the only pro to the rumbleverse's show was that you could mix and match items from different sets, I could go out as a blue undead biker man with white eyes and feel awesome while doing it, only item shop that was worth buying from.
I think Marvel Rivals has a chance. If the mechanics are good and the season passes have good content it could become big. Especially with the distaste for Overwatch. Deadlock may beat it out, but for me I found the characters uninteresting.
Do more research next time man the devs said 2 WEEKS ago that all characters are free to play and the only purchasable content will be the battle pass and In-game currency
