Get this video 5,000 likes and I'll show you my SECRET workout that is really good at predicting what kind of mile shape you are in. And as always, THANK YOU for watching my videos!!!
@Shane Chung Actually physics and im sure Nick would agree mid lanes give you the best efficiency Not too many sprinters like the inside or outside lanes
My best 400 is about 1:14 but then im a older long distance plodder not a sprinter Or as my swim coach at masters puts it Im a hybrid😂 As im a sprinter in the pool and an endurance runner on trail or road
Stfu AJ your not hooping I would lock your ass up I'm talking you won't be able to put a foot in the three point line I'd put 1m on me betting you in a 1v1 bud
The first track race I every won was a 400m in 4th grade i ran a 1:15, I got down to 54s in my early 20's and now in my early 40's I'm working to get under 60s I love and hate the 400m equally and hope to be able to keep running it for the rest of my life.
My first ever race was a 400 in 6th grade, don't know the time but was last place by a lot, stopped and walked at one point. High school I ran 2-mile in 10:00 but 440 in 57.6. Age 44 ran 400 in 55.9 and 800 in 2:05. Now I am 63 and would be super happy to run 65 when I turn 65. We'll see...running hard is definitely love/hate.
Very smooth running Nick especially at 36. You're compact but at the same time you have a long stride. You make it look easy and I know its not. I'm 54 now and my h.s. best was 53.5
very impressed! i'm 39 years old and just getting back into shape...i use to run 47.2 in the 400m and got a long way to go before hitting 52 like you did...i weigh 190 lbs and built like a running back now...i like how i look and dont want to lean out for the 400m but still want to run a fast 400m for my age.
@@nicksymmonds still fast as heck tho ahah you think if you fully commit yourself again 100% and train for 6months to a yr or however long it takes do you think it's possible you can eventually get high 40s? 48 49? I think you can if you put everything to it. Your giving me more motivation to catch my own times.
Concon Gaming doesn’t that mean it’s easier, because you’re either born with the speed or not. you can’t say jump from a 12 second 100m to a 10 second 100m without the genetic speed already being there.. while in say a mile to 3 mile you have to build up endurance rather than natural speed you’re born with. A sprinter can run a 400m faster by 6 seconds say a 44-45 and a distance runner runs 50 or as in nicks case 48 only 4 seconds slower, if they continued on the sprinter gets slower and slower each lap where the distance runner slows by a minimal amount because the sprinter is relying on pure talent/genetics. I’ve never heard of a sprinter doing 10 mile tempo runs, maybe a couple 400s max and some plyometrics/ practicing how to get out of blocks. Just my opinion as a middle distance runner. 400 was fun 800 was pain, mile was also pain, 2 mile I’m bored lol that’s just me though.
Awesome stuff! Love the content, and definitely notice the production quality. The warm-up sequence and drone shots of the 400m effort made for engaging content. The effort you're putting into these videos really shows. Keep it up!
Nice!! Great form! Your feet went back almost like you were doing “buttkickers” and I also noticed that your shoulders remained level and you kept a consistently good posture. You beat my PR. I ran a 53.1 last year. Good job!
I just joined the track team before corona virus and my season started after that I noticed that running was my thing and I was good at it and I liked it. This motivated me to train super hard everyday and I watch multiple videos on how to properly set up a good running schedule and I went from running a 64 to 56 seconds In just 4 months which was super hard and if your reading this and you want to get better just keep training. Btw im a 7th grader in Texas and its summer so more of an opportunity to train even harder
As a sprinter And running 400 in 47 seconds a junior in high school his form was really funny to me 😂 I was like u not gonna beat no one with this running style but when he hit 23 on the 200 mark i was like well shoot that is fast at his age and his form 🙏 I did some quick research about u and I was like damn he is a champ 😂 respect to you sir 💯
best way to get sub 55 is not to hit the gym like a maniac just run much i got my 400pb 51,61 by doing just 200m and 150m and then just casual jogging and temporunning and i also train mostly like every 800m runner.
Hi Nick! Amazing how you get a sub 52 seconds. Would like to see in your future video the effect of Rungum on the run, for example with Rungum vs. without. Or an experiment to demonstrate how to use Rungum strategically in runs for optimal performance.
Good job Nick! Great effort! Amazing, it was cold, maybe a little tight, hopefully you’ll get a sub 50 this spring! This may be your tight day and you would blow out 50 on the right day right now! Cheers! Looking forward to the mile predictor!!
Wow, you're still fast. Looks like you did that without much pain at all. I'll bet you ran at least that fast in some your best 800 splits. You should run masters. World Masters in Toronto in July! M35!
I pause at 2:21 my guess is 53:16 for 400m let's see.... it's amazing nick I am also an 800m runner my pb is also 51:45 last year it means your 800m time is still 1:55or1:56 great
Nick ...It''s M from Northern Canada here ...so glad to see you really running, instead of doing that carnival stuff ...are you still aiming for a sub 11 in the hundred? Have you considered taking Masters track seriously? ...best wishes and thanks for the videos and inspiration ...
I think that might be better than my pb personally, we haven’t timed the 400m since last year in 8th grade, this year we only do things called 50 second runs and my best was 350m so I think I probably would’ve run a 56 but I don’t really know for sure since we don’t run full 400s, great job though
a really good way to warmup is to run 1-1.5km almist all out like 80-90% speed and then chill for 15-25-minutes and then go for a run or where ever youre going to
As a track and field athlete (I run the 800, 1500, and 3000), these videos are really helpful and inspiring to watch! My dream is to go to the Olympics like you, Nick! Thanks for this video!
Nick i am 50 and have foot problems Mortons toe and one turf toe. Trying to train 8 to 10 hours a weekso i can break 2 for 800m and 4:30 for the mile. The secret will be as you did back in the day get good base then month of intervals than hit in July September. 5 foot 11 and 156 pounds so am at racing weight just need fitness. Wish i was in USA would come to visit your track
Good luck man I lost 45lbs over a year, just stick with it even when you don’t want to go just do it, get lots of rest, try to change your diet slowly. You got this!
I did the math to calculate how fast you're going, and that was an average 17.21 MPH. That's very fast. How fast do you think you can run at one time? I've been waiting you at the U of O, so I can beat you in a race, but I don't know if there's a way that I can know in advance.
Most people have no idea the amount of training you need to run 51 sec the 400m CLEAN, even after almost 2 years of retirement, no matter how "talented" you could be
Don't know your age Nick, but WMA worlds masters champs are in Toronto this year if you're interested. Your time would be very competitive! I'm M43 but can only throw down a 55s quarter these days.
i usually do 4x100 : once i did 15.4 -12.6 then 400 13.5-27.2-40.9-54.9 spikes not crocks 13.5+13.7+13.7+14.0 ( 27.7) doing the last stride faster than your workout pace makes it feel easier. actually it was 4X120 just timing the last 100
Is that the track at Lane Community College? Looks like a wonderful venue for track workouts. I'd like to see you run for life in USATF Master's competitions. You can have fun trying the 200m, 400m and 1500m versus men in your age group, and maybe set a few records along the way in the 800m. :)
Enjoyed the video Nick. You inspired me and love that you can run well. Competition is tough in masters track. I was 48 years old in 2009 and ran a 54.87 and was ranked 18th in 45-49 age group in USA. Not even top 50 in the world for age group 45-49. Keep running!
Nice Nick! Thought you might dip below 50 after that first 200. 36? Wait til you get to 62 (like someone very close to me). Haha. I want to get into decent enough shape to run an all out mile and see what I can do. I'd be ecstatic to go sub six. Now if only my Achilles would cooperate. Hahaha. Always love the videos. The drone footage was awesome on this one. Have a great day!
