Akihiko's new voice is deep like that of a grizzled 30-year old man. It will grow on us for sure but it is very different from the old voice's subtler tone.
@@OneLastScholar The thing is that Kaggy (Alejandro) voices him now. He and Zeno talked about what would happen if Persona 3 got a reboot a few years ago and I was talking about a reboot/remake with new VAs voicing the iconic characters. I wish I would have voiced Shinjiro, If I could have gone pro after my 11th year in voice-over. Because I would love to voice act with Allegra and Alejandro.
I genuinely thought that was Chidori speaking to Junpei, not Fuuka. Either it's because we've only gotten a few clips of Suzie Yeung as Fuuka, or she's good at controlling her voice and injecting the appropriate emotion into her lines.
i have mixed feelings on akihiko’s new va because i love his old voice and i’ll miss it but i also like alejandro’s voice a lot and i do think it suits the character
@@rowansteapot same. I know Alejandro's work for some years now and he's pretty talented so I'm confident he'll pull it off. it's more up to us, the consumer, to get used to this new Akihiko
I’m really going to miss the old cast, but I feel particularly bad for Michelle Ruff not returning to voice Yukari when she not too long ago had a conversation about ageism in the industry and how she’s getting fewer roles than when she did in the 2000s even though her voice still sounds the same.
Honestly, as talented as the new cast is, I do feel like its pretty unfair to the original cast overall to have just been fully replaced when the vast majority of them are not only still active in the industry but have been doing years worth of spinoffs as these characters. It just feels really disrespectful that, compared to the japanese industry where you lock into your role for life basically, english voice actors get replaced for no actual reason.
They're really doing it to appeal to new age persona 5 fans. Because in my experience, they're probably the worst part of the fandom, and the very large vocal part of the group. So what they want tends to be heard the most.
@@Namingway248I think it’s just the culture around voice acting It’s a lot easier to break into voice acting in Japan with their voice acting academies and such New talents more often get important roles There’s a meme about how the same 5 voice actors are in everything in English and I understand where they’re coming from
@@2Tune2 I mean he sounds like a mature adult woman and not that he has a woman voicing him in Persona 3 a woman voice ken but still sounded boyish same with Naruto and Ben 10
Fun fact, deep voice Akihiko was supposed to be the direction that the original should be but the actor can't make it any deeper than he already is. He was told to make a Shadow the Hedgehog (06) voice impression for Akihiko
Akhihiko's IS gonna be the hardest one for me to get used to ngl, it's really too similar to Alejandro previous va work like Yuri from FE3H and Jin Yuang from Star Rail, like you can tell it's the same voice but on a different pitch hopefully it grows on me during the game
Just today we found out Tara will still be playing Elizabeth so you won’t have to say goodbye completely! I know it’s different, but it’s still a silver lining of some sort!
Something I’m seeing a lot especially with Junpei’s VA is “They’re great cause they sound so similar!” But not only do I love all these VAs I greatly appreciate the effort they put in to it to make it both faithful, and new at the same time! And I think it’s idiocy to hate them because they’re not the originals, nostalgia aside these are all damn good replacements!
@@selfloathingweeklymost people (including myself) are not hearing a big diff and in some lines he sounds EQUAL, why the constant spam of "sounds nothing AT ALL" do you know what "nothing at all" means?
Alejandro Saab is fantastic for Akihiko, I do hear a bit of Yuri in it though, honestly, most things are improvement for Fuuka I’ll be honest, her voice was really weak in original P3
Hold on! If Yuri voices Pharos again, does that mean that Tara Platt (potentially) voices Elizabeth? I honestly can't hear Elizabeth with another voice other than Tara Platt.
I don't think that's Yuri, new!Pharos sounds more raspy compared to the OG. In both English and Japanese, Makoto, Pharos, and Ryoji share a voice actor for plot reasons, so I imagine that's probably Aleks Le we're hearing and the uploader just didn't change the picture. Very curious to see what they'll do for Elizabeth though, her role seems minor enough that they could reasonably cast Tara Platt again.
I'd be surprised since its actually the closest to yuri's performance. Although ryoji would be tough since yuri nailed it. Don't know if he could beat it
Honestly im split on ken. Old voice had ”kid that sounds like old woman syndrome” but new voice has ”kid that sounds a bit too close to puberty + slightly too feminine”. I think the new one is slightly better, but I’ll have to see the emotional moments to really be sold.
The only VA I truly wished to have been kept was Karen Strassman for Aigis, who really did embody that mechanical feeling of Aigis, progressively becoming more human. I don't know if Dawn displays any resemblance to this progression, but we'll have to see.
Hard agree, she was practically made for that role. But as has been said, maybe she has the robotic tone at the beginning and then ditches entirely it after she's repaired from her fight with Ryoji. Which is a choice, but I'm not too upset about it.
@@ExaltedUriel for sure, in the grand scheme of things, it's not extremely important. if all else fails, hopefully there's a japanese voices option since those VAs were kept from the ps2 era
My favorite line is from Junpei. "Let's make sure this chapter of our lives ends on a happy note" The VA is really good, love it! The Shijiro one is really good too! Love most of them tbh!!
@@Direwolf181wait, WHAT?!! Who are the characters that the other critical role VA’s voiced? I looked it up but I’m only getting the Japanese voice actors for some reason
@@dairyqueen8402 Travis was Theo in P3P Marisha is the current voice for Margret and Sam is Teddie from P4 the Animation onwards Laura is of course Rise Kujikawa in P4 (and the FeMC Kotone Shiomi from P3P Liam was Akihiko in P3 Matt is Yusuke(and Kanji from the second half of P4 the Animation and everywhere besides P4 and P4G funnily enough) And Robbie is Akechi in P5
I need to hear more of Aigis. See, there was some charm by the fact that she doesn't sound human. That's the point! She's a robot! And near the end, she sounds a lot more human! I want them to keep that detail!
I'm digging all new voices except Akihiko's. He is a character with a tragic past, a sad tone. I have my doubts that the new VA can pull that part of the character better than the original. New guy is too deep and calm.
@@gamerkingmayathe064th5 Yeah. I'm not saying I don't like the new VA, just that I'm esceptical about how he will pull some of Akihiko's trauma dump monologues. I really hope he surprises me.
@@reapersawada8509 Exactly. Thats what the whole journey does to the characters. Thats OK for endgame Akihiko. But Aki starts being an orphan who lost nearly everyone close to him before meeting MC. And has some really sad moments. Thats when I think that "deep voice calm Akihiko" is not the right way to go.
Aleks as Makoto is downright perfect, he brings the perfect energy and his Pharos voice was so spot on we literally thought it was Yuri, he's gonna do great. Zeno as Junpei is GREAT. Some lines you can barely tell the difference and others he has such great energy I don't even care, definitely looking forward to more of him. Heather as Yukari is also good, noticeably different but again, very similar energy to the original which is good. Alexandro as Akihiko I'm eh on. I see what they're doing but he's too deep, he sounds like he's 17 going on 30. Plus Liam O'Brien's performance is just so iconic, it's going to be hard to live up to. Allegra is PERFECT as Mitsuru. No notes. Suzie is also perfect as Fuuka, she's so cute. And unfortunately Fuuka's acting was the subject of some ridicule in the original ("*gasp* The enemy!") so, nowhere to go but up I suppose, lol. No shade to Paula Tiso but, you know. Justine as Ken... needs work. He sounds way too much like a girl, but maybe these just weren't good examples. If you have a keen ear you could tell he was voiced by a woman in the original too but, at the very least it was a Bart Simpson/Ash Ketchum tier boy voice. Ken just straight up sounds like a girl. Dawn as Aegis I'll have to see more of, I think she's good, but Karen is a tough act to follow, she felt MADE for that role. I hope the clip we hear is post-Moonlight Bridge like people are saying because Aegis without barely ANY robotic intonation just doesn't feel right. Justice as Shinji I like, obviously will have to hear more but I like his take on him. Truth be told Grant as Shinji was sometimes distracting, not only because of his weirdly nasally, almost nerdy voice (which I don't think is bad, always just struck me as an "interesting choice") but also because he voices so many background characters as well, lol. So looking forward to more of Justice. Whoever voices Ikutsuki is... okay. Saying it a lot but gotta hear more, my first impression is that he sounds both less suspicious, but also like the kind of guy who wouldn't crack the puns Ikutsuki is known for, lol. Gonna be weird to get used to but, I'm receptive to it.
Yuri knew he was going to be replaced but was over the moon when he heard it was Aleks, the guy he actually mentored and was a long friend of Yuri’s. Yuri told him he was beyond proud when he heard it was Aleks voicing him, and Aleks cried when he heard this.
Had the same thought on Ken. He does sounds more mature but aren't his maturity supposed to be overshadow by his age? I can't imagine anyone not taking him seriously with that voice.
Sae Niijima was Elizabeth Maxwell. I only know Allegra Clark as Dorothea Arnault and Shamir Nevrand from Fire Emblem Thre Houses. This Mitsuru sounds like a slightly less emotionless Shamir to me.
Ngl, I liked Ikutsuki's og voice better. He definitely brings some deceit to his voice, because it's way too comforting and a guy who does puns at almost every opportunity, you'd never realized he was actually a bad guy (maybe if Atlus didn't show the scenes where he's muttering to himself then maybe the reveal would've been more shocking). The new voice just sounds a bit more sinister.
I liked the old voice because it felt like he was laying it on a bit too thick, he was trying to seem friendly to the point I felt a bit uncomfortable around him. I think thats the one that can make a big difference in how potentially new fans view his character before the twist.
@@neymiiie in other words, there's a lot to like about the old voice. But who knows, maybe I'll come to like the new one. I doubt I'll ever get used to Akihiko's new voice though, it just doesn't have that same youthful energy when Liam voiced him
think the new voice is kind of a full scope revision, the cringy puns doesn't blend with the later parts of the story and wasn't thought out his role by that point and Ikutsuki isn't really an adachi personality to make it natural after the twist
Akihiko, Fuuka, Ken and Shinjiro all sound so radically different from their originals. Akihiko's is the only one where I'm a bit iffy because it sounds too low for him. Fuuka and Shinji's new voices sound closer to their Japanese counterparts and to be honest, prefer these voices. Ken's is... fine.
I have reservations over Akihiko's voice like most people but I'm holding out hope because Alejandro's voice isn't yelling in the fire of battle and is still in the beginning explaining to MC
I like how they all turned out. i do wish yukari had just a tad bit more snap to it though. and akihiko is different , but not in a bad way. his is more smooth than what im used too.
There's a mod on Gamebanana for the PC version that aims to change the voices back and let you choose whose voice stays classic and who has the new voice actors but it is still very early in development.
my thing is, with the old cast they had THAT certain flair to the delivery. even more so with the male character voices that made it stick. In no way does it take away from the work of the current crew, but in some instances it just comes off as like normal speak for me. I had this kind of view while playing RE 2 remake and feeling like it was just normal speak and not a sick ass delivery. but im thinking this is just something that happens in the west releases. for example the voice of dante in the DMC series- Reuben Langdon was so perfect in its delivery that it stuck for the subsequent games past 3. something thats very in line with the jp side of things. in another media form as an easy example being goku from the dragon ball series. in which it is still nozawa masako. and if im correct in my assumption the jp side of persona 3 reload should still be the og crew set that they had for the original persona 3.
This video made me realize that it was Shinji talking at the start of the 1st reload trailer, and after playing the game that's so damn heartbreaking (never played og p3 so I didn't see what happened to him coming)
In the trailer, I thought Ken’s line of wanting to use his power (2:24) was Mitsuru speaking, especially in the “Take this seriously.” I think it’s going to take some time for me to get used to this one…
WITTLE GOBWIN 🥰🥰🥰 I can’t ynhear it from makoto but I love it Also the new junpei is a MASSIVE fan of persona 3 when he announced it on Twitter there were like 5 paragraphs of hype it awesome
@@lassitolvanen8519 most people i've seen are playing in jp audio since thats the original cast, but where's the english ones? My guess no one likes the new ones since we all grew with the original ones.
The new Akihiko VA does a fine job as a VA, but the difference between original Akihiko and new Akihiko is going to make this a really hard sell for me, given that if it's not obvious from my avatar, he's my favorite Persona character of all time.
I was in the chat for a livestream Michelle did on Instagram. The short version is that it wasn’t Atlus’s decision - Sega mandated that a “younger/fresher” cast be brought in for the remake. She and the rest of the OG VAs only found out about it via phone call. Considering how much she loved voicing Yukari, as well as how vocal she is about ageism in the voice acting industry, you can imagine that it really stung for her to be told that she was too old to return at age 56. Especially since many of the Japanese voice actors are around that age and they all came back.
Old Akihiko is a fighter, always gung-ho, straight to the action, battle-crazed, dependable senpai (in combat). New Akihiko is a schemer, a thinker, someone who just wants a cup of coffee, dependable senpai.
Everyone talking about how great the new voice actors are but I’m just here happy to see that Yuri Lowenthal is still going to be a part of this game ❤ EDIT: Just kidding guys I saw the updated pinned comment LOL
Im surprised he is still able to pull off that voice. I recall him struggling as Haseo in the last .hack GU chapter (Unless theyre just using voice clips)
He is?? That rocks, who does he voice? I must have missed it Edit: nvm, pinned comment corrects the video that Aleks also voices Pharos. His impression was just THAT good, which is a good sign. I also thought it was Yuri reprising his role when I first saw the trailer, lol
Honestly this cast as a whole has grown on me, i had some reservations originally when i heard about the recasting but with a lot of the trailers popping up and hearing some of their lines im overall satisfied and excited for when the game drops
I like that they brought some of the old VAs back to voice minor characters. It's like a movie remake or reboot bringing back the old actors for cameos.
I wonder what it would sound like if Akahiko Sanada's original voice actor Said something wild and out of left field like "Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter" but he would never say something so foolish, right?
