Fun fact: the mario & sonic at the 2020 olympic games was the last game that AlphaDream (the devs behind the Mario & Luigi games) made before going bankrupt!
14:05 ive played this one, and its a really small machine since its for kids - so small that i could literally just pick up the basketballs and put them in the hoops by just dropping them in, no effort. i got the highest score that machine probably ever saw fr fr - and all it cost was my pride, and having the biggest man-child moment of my whole life - absolutely working up a sweat trying to dominate a childrens arcade game
If you grew up/went to CEC’s back in early 2000s, Sonic Spinner (I don’t recall it ever being Sonic and Tails Spinner for some reason?) was THE game to play if you wanted easy tickets. I had to share a cup of tokens with my half and step sister (half- my dad and stepmom, step comes from stepmom and her ex) and remember watching my dad hit the jackpot (which I think was around 100-200 tickets?) and POP OFF. He was more excited than we were LMFAOOO
It's a shame SegaSonic was never remade from the ground up so that you can use normal controls, this would be amazing as a simple mobile game that you could play multiplayer on LAN with your friends
we need more fun versions of normally mundane machines. idgaf if it's just a popcorn machine with more bells and whistles, it's better than a popcorn machine with nothing!
0:04 Patter finally learned from his mistakes in the Educational Sonic games video and spelled didj correctly (Context: He was spelling it like "didji").
I love Sega's Arcade games. If they built an arcade that had exclusive Sega themed prizes like USB Dreamcast controllers and Chao plushies based on various Sega characters, I'd honestly be a regular customer.
I worked at an arcade with a couple of the Sonic Dash and Mario & Sonic 2016 machines. Yes, they definitely did run Windows. I remember because they’d crash often, which is how I know. (You’d think they’d put just a little more QC testing into them, but whatever)
I love the occasional cuts showing us everything behind the scenes. The setup, all the equipment, the basement everything is in, something about it just does it for me. You've got yourself a new subscriber!
19:24 actually had the opportunity to play this on one of the very few original machines recently. beat the whole game after an attempt count that was... SOMEWHERE in the double digits. can confirm it is absolutely NOT easier on an actual arcade wheel my hand was sore the next day and all i could dream about that night was spinning that accursed ball
I’ve been waiting for this video for ages, it should’ve came out years ago, but I’m glad it’s here now, and happy patter is getting more ads and probably more money. Also one the of the best patter videos ever
Me and my sister actually won the jackpot on blast ball. There weren't any prizes at the arcade but we did take home two sonic drink flasks with our earnings.
My local arcade had the Sonic Redemption game and it never really registered with me that it WAS Sonic as a kid until I went back when I was like 16 lol
That's kinda reasonable as you're not gonna be looking up at the display with lazily plastered renders of Sonic, you're gonna be looking down at the game, and there's barely any mention or imagery of Sonic there. So. Yeah.
I swear that card that saves your progress in an arcade game is such a great idea, I'd totally play more arcade games if that was a feature of many other games.
I LOVED this video! i actually got to play alotta these weird sonic games at arcades its always so fun to find them :D some you showed were new to me so thats super awesome! Also you look hella fashionable ✨️
Ironically the Arcade I work in has both of the sonic basketball ones, and let me say the kids one is criminally small, most kids could just reach over with the ball if they wanted to
As someone who has recently become quite invested in SegaSonic the Hedgehog (the one with the track ball), your ranking makes me happy. Can only hope that game comes to home consoles. Also great video!
Thanks patter for this video and mentioning some of your old series. I haven’t watched it yet cause it came out 43 seconds ago but it should be just as good as all of your other videos.
A good amount of these arcade games you mention were in Sega Joypolis, an Arcade amusement part I went to in Odaiba in Tokyo. Mogu Mogu Sonic, Sonic Athletics, and Sonic Ghost Shooting were all exclusive to there.
Imagine if you could redeem tickets for more credits to play the arcades longer instead of getting a dumb prize. (I did play the hell out of the bommering I got once though)
I like that jakks pacific got the sound clips from the movie unlike whenever hasbro does talking toys where they sound completely different or say something out of character
all stickers on peters arcade machine: PikaBob, his current profile picture, his old profile picture, and finally Cardboard Sliver. [ edit: there are also donkey kong arcade barrels and blue fire ]
Peter deserves more recognition he’s by far my favorite RU-vidr I’ve ever watched the content he makes is so creative I’ve been I a fan for about 5 years and I feel he tends to get overlooked when talking about this genre of RU-vid
just stating this incase no one else does: 18:50 the two other characters in Segasonic The Hedgehog are actually original characters who first appeared there, Ray the flying squirrel and Mighty the armadillo these two, amongst the other rare characters of the classic era(including Sonic The Fighters) would even make their grand return in Sonic Mania's Encore DLC
I have had a chance to see Sonic Fighters in Las Vegas. It may look need with the 3D and such. But it struck me as the base line for making a one-on-one fighter. It has Punch and Kick. (Can't recall button three. Block? Jump?) Made me think that it was for those under ten that were not ready for Street Fighter. So I wouldn't put it at B tier. Then again, I barely know any of these other games that were shown at all. The redemption puck one has a really neat puck floaty mechanic. But it's just Plinko with a x second play cycle. That and the Sonic & Tails redemption are about all I've ever seen out in the wild.
*I may or may not have seen some of these, but, I've never played any of them.* *Well, not Sonic arcade machines in general, but, ones made by Sega in general*
I literally had the option to play on the Olympic Tokyo 2020 cabin a WEEK ago. But one of the buttons was broken so it wouldve been a waste of Money BUT you can play a small minigame without paying which doesnt use the Buttons :)
Sega sonic popcorn shop got referenced in sonic mania as a launcher where you inside of the machine and then it pops out popcorn and then it launches you high in the sky
Duuuude the Tokyo Olympic Games one was at the local arcade I used to go with my friends and we would play it right before we left it was a fuckin tradition we had and then it got taken down and we never saw it again…for me this one is high A tier solely for the extremely fond memories we had along with it … it was so sad to see it not there when we went to our local arcade last ….
Aimi cards aren't actually exclusive to Japan, they can be used in Asia,Australia and some parts of North America to save data to sega's rhythm games such as Maimai and project diva arcade, they can also be used for DDR due to a partnership with Konami
