The ancient town of Iwo town in Osun State on Tuesday witnessed carnival-like activities as eminent personalities and traders converged in the town to attend the 8th day Fidau prayers for the mother of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi
Governor of Osun State,Gboyega Oyetola and the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transporter Workers were among those who attended the prayer session.
The monarch lost his mother (King's mother) , Alhaja Suebat Amope Alimi nee Akanbi to the cold grip of death on Tuesday, August 11 after a brief illness.
Others at the event include, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Akire of Ikire, AbdulAzeez Olatunbosun, Maye of Yoruba land, Zakariyau Adedoyin and Alhaji Liad Tella.
In his sermon, Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Muyideen Bello, urged all to live impactful lives, bearing in mind that the end could come any time.
Quoting some relevant verses of the Qur’an, Sheikh Muyideen Bello noted all souls must taste death and return to their creator at an appointed time.
Prayers were later offered by Islamic clerics for the repose of the soul of the departed.
Some shops in the town did not open for business as a sign of respect to Oba 's mother.
