@@justvid366 it's a very sad shame that EA/Bioware decided to not implement a fleet strategy, unlike what King Theoden did, pulling almost a 1683 Battle of Vienna strategy/Polish Winged Hussars charge to save Gondor/Christian Europe from the Ottomans. Too busy rushing the multiplayer elements of the Mass Effect and not having a solid ending to ME3. Commander Shepard could have played a strategy game like Thrawn in Star Wars, deploying the fleet on how to attack tactically and succeed in penetrating the Reaper forces at Earth.
Honestly its still eerie to me: Cerberus was becoming and would became the New Collectors. If everyone else was killed or enslaved to become husks and such, they'd have the Omega 4 base or something similar, and likely be rewritten, and the cycle begins again, except its the remnants of humanity being the drone slaves this time.
One more reason Mass Effect 2s story sucked. Can you imagine if theyd actually taken the time to write your cooperation with Cerberus as far more sinister and contentious? They kept adding handwaves and useless gestures but they should have confronted it more openly and made you question if stopping the collectors was most important. I mean the illusive man sacrificed an entire colony and potentially your former teammate and all you can do is whine a little about it afterwards until its brushed off as a "necessary evil".
@@jmlaw8888 Kinda wish depemdong on the player's decision or disposition, they could be still.working with Cerberus in the third game (sorry i think Cerberus looks AWESOME in game three) but like...break away from Illusive Man, once Shep realizes "Wait you've been indoctrinated the whole time?!" (BECAUSE HE WAS HIT BY THE ARCA DEVICE ON PALAVAN, VIA A COMIC) and manages to convince people who are willing to listen, that Illusive Man doesn't have best intentions in mind. So you work to stop the reapers YOUR way, perhaps even with your ME2 teammates joining you too.
I know this is way late. But I'm sure that was the Reapers plan. Cerberus already had a crap ton of Reaper Artifacts, and the Illusive man was already obsessed with them at the beginning of ME2. Pretty sure the Reapers planned to have Cerberus be the next collectors after the base exploded. Explains why Harbinger said the Collectors have outlived their usefulness.
@@robertharris6092 Halo UNSC secondary and auxiliary guns go *kachunk* *kachunk* *kachunk* Also, Mass Effect uses, well, Mass Effect technology to propel bullets, it's just kinetic energy but with mass-altering sci-finium.
Besides the loss of the council, there is actually an interesting change that’s not very noticeable. If you save the Council, then you later gain the Destiny Ascention as a war asset. If you leave them to die, then you don’t get it... but the numbers don’t reflect this until you pay attention to the details. The Alliance would balance out the loss of the Ascention because you never lost the Fleets destroyed during that battle, thus balancing out the numbers. An interesting fact I missed the first few times playing this completely years ago.
Imagine if the council actually prepared for the reaper invasion after ME1. I wonder if a fully prepared armada of all the races could defeat the reapers without Shepard dying.
A single Sovereign class was mopping the floor with Alliance fleet. The best part , it wasn't even trying to fight them , rather busy controlling Saren while it's secondaries were oneshotting Alliance.
With the upgrades thanix canons and acknowledging how powerful they are and what is at stake and putting entire worlds to producing ships and recruiting and training they would have done a lot better but still forced to retreat.
You can’t build a fleet in 3 years. The systems alliance was unable to replace 8 cruisers in that time. Modern ships take years to build, even if they fully invested, it would take time to train crews and land forces, build weapons and ships, organize them with competent officers, all on a hunch by Shepard
I just realized, a lot of people were unhappy that even in legendary they still did not show the geth fleet turning up at earth for the battle.for earth, just a line by joker saying they reported in. Nor did they show up with the shield fleet escorting the crucible either. Perhaps they were sent to crucial relays away from the sol system to prevent reaper reinforcements from other systems from joining the final battle. My reasoning for this is because they likely possessed the highest number of dreadnoughts left after the reaper invasion given that the geth were never bound by the treaty to limit their number of dreadnoughts and as machines could have churned out massive numbers of such ships over the years in secret. Hence they would make the best blockading force for the battle.
They makes a lot of sense, honestly. Still would’ve liked to see them in the battle, especially if you worked to make sure both the Geth and quarians join the fleet.
I feel like the Turians and humans both probably didn't limit their own naval sizes and built a bunch more dreadnought in secret not really trusting each other.
I always chose to save the council in ME1, I didn't realise the Renegade option literally has you turn off comms to them so you don't hear whats going on. That shit is dark
I always thought it was a wasted opportunity to have a few side missions where you controlled the Normandy or a fighter to take out enemy forced especially at the end of 2 and several times in 3. Like we got a car chase in a dlc in 2 and all those hammerhead missions. I think they could have easily come up with a fighter simulator minigame just something extra.
@@yiledute You play as joker briefly in the second game so just have him still be the pilot during it or Cortez in one of those modified fighters you capture from that Cerberus base but it didn't happen so either way it still worked out and is an awesome game.
Now that I'm older letting the council die makes less sense tactically. Those geth ships are still there and now they're on your flank. Not like they're gonna kill the ascension then just leave.
Not.... really? You gotta think, if Sovereign is successful the fleet and the galaxy is pretty much f'd no matter if you save the ascension or not. Taking out Sovereign on the other hand means the Geth will more than likely retreat. Throwing away forces to save a ship simply because it has a council that sat on it's hands even after they were warned repeatedly, or use everything you have cause even then you don't know it's going to be enough? Answer is simple. Council can get stuffed since they could have taken any number of steps to help prevent or mitigate this problem. Lame duck leadership at it's finest.
@@Abrxas01 Yes, but if you leave them then charge into sovereign those ships attacking the ascension will end up behind you and flank your rear. Which is bad. Fuck the asenscion, but might as well push there to open up a gap in their ranks
@@Abrxas01 no se si se traducirá. El Consejo es importante y salvarlo da buena reputación a la humanidad lo que debería facilitar conseguir aliados. Aún no jugué ME3.
@@Abrxas01 Also, there is 10 000 of Asaris on the Ascenscion, not to mention the turian ships that escort it so it's not just a bad leadership that's going to die.
It also doesn't make sense from a purely selfish reason. Saving the Destiny Ascension, even at great cost, showed that Humanity was capable of putting the needs of the galaxy at large over the needs of their own. Much of the council races saw humanity as arrogant and selfish, demanding a seat at the council when they had only just reached the stars. The sacrifice made by the Alliance fleet showed that Humanity was willing to make the commitment to their allies.
It's cool to see the Destiny Ascension actually tanking all the attacks sent to her. Heck by the end of the battle, you can see almost the entire Geth fleet focusing fire on the Destiny Ascension and she's somehow still standing.
They single-handedly cost the lives of billions because of their arrogance. The Reapers would have had a shit time going against a prepared and united galaxy with prothean levels of technology.
If only humanity stopped interfering with our goals every step of the way in me3. See, I can generalize too about humanity/Cerberus. It was really only a small circle of matriarchs who even knew about the Prothean beacon and kept it a secret. Rest of the asari didn't have a bloody clue. In fact, the one who plays the second biggest role in saving the galaxy by finding the Crucible plans at all is Liara, an asari.
10:51 first time I saw that, not only did I get goosebumps, not only did my jaw drop, and not only did I feel very nervous, but I immediately cried, the tears just suddenly rolled down before my face even had a chance to get red because.....I immediately realized billions..trillions were about to die and seeing our beautiful galaxy from afar made it worse, it looked like an army of monsters, of parasites coming to devour it and rip it apart limb from limb, I saw it as a weak or defenseless galaxy that was about to be tortured to death.
@@lokibau ??????????? okay you know what, I'm not gonna sit here and explain to you the psychology behind why humans get emotionally attached to novels or stories, because 1. I wouldn't know how to do it anyway and 2. it's fking common sense
@@luuu5207 yeah but it's still in the works I think bioware has not said anything about cancelling anyway there's still 2 or 3 years before that game comes out let's see what happens but I have serious concerns about ea using frostbite
Such a small difference but does anyone notice the sound difference of admiral gerrells forward battery the Asari victory is a laser sounding fire but the geth victory is more of a rail gun sound hard too notice but shows the attention to detail of the sound effects team👌
Wouldn't change anything. Reapers would've crush the combined galactic forces regardless of how united they were. Maybe the Protheans could've done it if the Citadel Relay was disabled.
I find it invariably ludicrous that all those supposedly technologically advanced ships in supposedly distant future apparently have no guidance systems for their weapons and fire their main guns in line of sight like WW2 fighters (which, realistically speaking, would mean that their chances of hitting any target would be close to zero). I mean WTF? Even contemporary air force would kick their asses, no need for Reapers here.
Ummm...they DO have guidance systems. They’re called “computers”. As for the guns...well, I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but there are these things called the “Laws of Physics” which basically mean guns HAVE to bed fired line-of-sight. And when you’re up against fighters, yeah, guns probably aren’t the best, but when you’re up against LARGER ships? Such as in, say, a fleet battle? Guns are actually pretty effective. Railguns in particular, like the Alliance uses (I think) would be EXTREMELY effective.
They do have guidance systems, but BioWare's terrible when it comes to depicting space battles. Which is why the in-game codex is actively considered higher canon than the cut scenes when it comes to gauging and discussing the feats in Mass Effect. One particular example in the codex is a mention of the Battle of Rannoch where the Quarians shot down Geth stations in Rannoch's orbit from behind the system's star. That being said, every ship class has an effective range for their guns. Dreadnoughts for example can reliably hit moving targets from thousands of kilometers away. As for why they are only using guns, it's because missiles and fighters are useless within the setting for the most part. The reason being the existence of kinetic barriers and GARDIAN systems - the latter of which are basically point defense laser guns with 100% accuracy rate, which causes battles involving anything smaller than a frigate versus a warship to boil down to battles of attrition where up to dozens of sacrificial waves are sent and promptly blown up until the opposing GARDIAN systems overheat - at which point the warship can simply jump out to the nearest suitable atmosphere to vent excess heat, making all the sacrifices made to destroy it all for nothing. (Which is also why no one ever built dedicated Carriers before the SA showed up, because dedicating entire ships to deploying mass swarms of kamikaze fighters was seen as wasteful) Which plays a large part in why mass accelerators are the main weapons used. Oh, and as a side note: Nukes don't work in space.
Wish we saw a few more Reaper corpses during the final battle, especially if you got all the Fleet Assets. Show off the idea that this Cycle gave the Reapers a bloody nose, or better yet a broken arm; to show that the time and effort you spent gathering those ships up paid off in some form or way beyond mere background fluff.
The one complaint I have is that I never got to fly the Normandy in a space battle. Even a quick-time style of hitting the right button to do an action or move in the right direction like the old Space Ace game would have been cool. After the Millennium Falcon the Normandy 2 is the best spaceship in sci-fi.
I think the ending war was a little lacking. I mean, if you gathered all the possible, or at least the major war assets (the fleets, the species and the techonologies) we should be able to have a glimpse of those things taking a part in the war. During the playtrhough down on Earth see Krogan, the criminals from Omega and the Rachni doing something, showing that their pressence was key to achieve some objective, in space see all the types of ships fighting, see one or two Reapers be destroyed to show that the fleets weren't just fodder, at least see one of the Leviathan fighting a Reaper. Make it seem like all that "farming" was for something, and that it had meaning.
If I'm correct there's a mod for ME3 that depicts the majority of assets in the final holdup before the assault on the Citadel. I'd have personally given the opportunity to speak to their representatives, say the Geth Primes reprogrammed thanks to Legion's efforts or even Admiral Raan or Koris of the Quarian fleets.
The whole of ME3's finale was disappointing, not just the ending itself. And not showing the war assets is one of it. You can really sense the rush job they did for it.
Can't believe I just thought about this plot hole, but why couldn't they just radio anybody on the citadel to open the arms, instead of sending troops up the beam from earth. Seems a bit more foolproof considering there's millions of people on the citadel and likely no reapers inside the citadel waiting to laser the fuck out of them
Always found it hilarious how completely worthless the Citadel fleet was in the first game you'd think it would be one of the most heavily guarded places in the galaxy but nope. lmao
I believe the reason is because no one (of the species present) would be so idiotic as to attack the Citadel head-on because after that it would face the full Turian fleet.
It IS one of the most heavily guarded places in the galaxy, if not the most. Codex entries state that the Destiny Ascension is the largest ship of any Council race, and the Turians lose 20 cruisers even when you immediately rush to assist them. Sovereign is just WAY more powerful than what they had on hand because Reapers are much more advanced, and Council intelligence services weren't tracking this unknown mega-dreadnought the way they previously keep tabs on ship movements of other races, so they have no idea they need to bring every ship they have to the Citadel right away. It's like if there was an aircraft carrier group along with some additional escort vessels parked right off the coast of Washington D.C., but then some undiscovered Chinese carrier 5 times the size of anything the US owns came out of nowhere for a decapitation strike on the US government.
@TheGenericDavis Clearly not. Palaven was attacked by numerous Reapers yet held out far better same for the Asari. The Citadel defenses are obviously just weak.
The shields where still up but the core was all messed up, caused the mass effect field's and half the normandys systems to fail, there's some info about in in ME3 but not. Sure where Edit: the engineers talk about it once you vist them enough
I wish there was more ship variety in tge last cutscene. Show the quariana and geth fighting reapers. In the end it looks like only humanity, turians, abd asari, fought in space. Even the fighters were human. Now i know for a fact that both the geth and the turians had fighters.
I honestly never saw why you wouldn't want to help the council? Less humans would die but then after the battle the rest of the galaxy would straight up see that humans could have helped but they just sat there while thousands died along with the council.
When I was teen, I emotionally choose to wait because I pissed at the council. Now I am older and wiser. I choose to help them. U know, I pissed only three of them, not 10k people.
I think people hate the council unfairly, they are literally the leaders of galaxy civilization, trillions of lives on in their hands. They have to balance so much, I don't think they really ever didn't believe Shepard about the Reapers, everyone after ME1 basically started getting ready for the Reapers, but do you realize how much chaos would happen if the galaxy found out the Reapers are coming to kill everyone and there is nothing to do to stop them.
I would have liked if the council requested all parties to "build" a larger navy under the guise of standard military expansion while secretly letting certain races leaders know a very real and tangible threat is approaching
Honestly, I'm questioning what did Joker mean when he said "hard on my flank, we're going in" before going on his attack run... What did he mean by that anyway? Like, for friendly ships to cover his flanks or sometimes?
Halo honestly did a pretty simillar scinerio better. Except that being an FPS and not an RPG most of the lore is in books and the such other than the games.
@@hydraman246 ME3 has the most epic vibes and more emotional moments than ME2 and ME1. I like the combat the best and the weapons are the best imo but I hate how you fight Cerberus more than the actual reapers and also should have had more missions that felt like big battles rather than small raids. Also should have been able to utilize assets in said missions and depending on actions and how fast you are in the battles you can save those assets or get them killed.
