I grew up with Swing jazz - my Dad's influence, he was also a clarinet player - and I still love it to this day. I have lost count of how many times I've listened to this track and watched this cartoon. Absolute masterpiece.

I watched this with my grandfather all the time. When he passed away the only thing I requested from his estate were the VHS tapes of the disney cartoons so I’d always have this to remember him. 😢

To think that the girls in this short were done by none other than Freddy Moore, who was known for his work on female characters in some Disney movies. He was known for his work on the centaurettes in Fantasia (1940) and the mermaids in Peter Pan (1953). The mermaids were among his last known works before his death 1952.

Teens pretty much dressed the same from 1946 to around 1964 in the usa. But British Teens started changing style around the late 50s to the "mod look".

In the 40’s it was Bobby soxers then 50’s came poodle skirters. In the 40’s teens wore regular jackets then 50’s created greasers as in leather black jackets. Fashion fads changed in two decades

@foxhound13 IT was never a short. It was just a segment inside a full-sized movie by Disney. He made several of those after WW2 (example: Three Caballeros) because he was short of cash & these were cheaper to make than a full-length story like Pinocchio or Dumbo .

I think Benny Goodman's music sounds like Jewish (eg fluid clarinet and melody lines) X Black jazz eg brass X some white structure and polish / surface.

@@r.austin3323 Jazz is largely black and Benny Goodman is Jewish. In quite a lot of older Jazz you can hear the European Jewish clarinet tradition. Like from what I've heard Jazz came from a mix of Southern Black and French influence eg New Orleans and there's a fair bit of Jewish music sounds in some of it too.

I miss Disney movies with that kind of Harmony when they sing.~ No, I didn’t know about this cartoon but I can see why everyone loves it.~ I wish Disney would remember THIS yes what Disney is sole based off of. Not love action remakes but animation go back to that. I understand that every generation is differently but not every Disney movie needs to be live action. Back then, the song was the thing, not the singer. You look for old music, you might not get the singer you want performing it right away.

In the 1940's a person--especially a musician--who was really "cool" was called a "cat." In the original tune, numerous band members took solos. They were that "cats" who "joined in" to play the tune.
