There was a wild fox that used to come see me when I had my break at work. I used to sit outside and eat my lunch and regular as clockwork he would come along, sit 5 feet from me and wait for me to share my lunch with him. This went on for months. Then, one day when I came out he didn't come so I went looking. Found him in the road, dead after being hit by a car, probably on his way to see me. Don't mind admitting, I cried thay day.
Only captive bred, its a major part of the reason they can't be released. Also I think fur farms have a higher chance to abandon/turnover oddly colored pelts because it doesn't work for their brand.
Silver foxes are a variation of red foxes that can be found in the wild, otherwise like the other commenter said, only captive bred foxes have the bigger variety in coats/markings

A bit late to this video. Several years ago, I had cut up a watermelon. I threw the rinds down the into our backyard. The next morning I walked out to find two grey foxes feasting. It was such a joy to witness.
@treos2 Dude chill they only do it sometimes at this rescue because they have to as they can’t risk too many litters being born as they can only afford to take care of a certain amount of foxes and most of these foxes will be adopted anyway and most adoptive fox owners won’t really want fox pups
Yeah sometimes animals dislike a person after their neutering because they remember they were being taken to get neutered and can obviously tell the difference now lol
@@kor2597 the same reason you do it to dogs and cats, it stops them getting too hormonal and becoming agressive, it also reduces the risk of testicular cancer in males. Unlike dogs and cats, these foxes get neutered and spayed mainly so they can't breed, which is important as they're only bred for their fur and as a result suffer from health defects.

For everyone asking about Valentine, he has a genetic condition that causes his gums to over grow. It’s one of the many sad things that can happen at fur farms cause of inbreeding. I'm glad that he was mentioned. The first time in months. He was a pet surrender btw. He was surrendered because he's definitely no pet material and the owners were overwhelmed with owning a fox. He's the one with the wildest instincts of all the foxes. Which makes me wonder where his former owners got him from.
@Elijah Jasper Yeah, unfortunately many people are overwhelmed with exotic pets. Cats and dogs are difficult enough, but exotic pets are much harder to care for and the question is why you would want one in the first place. It always worries me when people in the commentary section here say that they want to get a fox, especially if those people seem like they're young. If they have a parent that gets them everything they want, a fox could be the next pet surrender.

I find foxes eating watermelon being very relaxing and super cute during the raging pandemic and the presidential election limbo. It's therapy! Hope you guys get a few minutes of forgetting about everything and enjoying life through the foxes!
I love how the light sometimes catches the foxes eyes in the right way and you get that flash (you get it from Duchess at about 9:11, for example), similar to that of a dog or cat, but not quite identical. It's the tapetum lucidum in their eyes, a reflective layer BEHIND the retina that helps amplify their night vision (bouncing light that has not been detected by the retina back INTO the retina, so that it has a second chance of being detected). Humans don't have one (and thus are reliant on mainly our rod cells for night vision), but SO many predators (even the odd herbivore, e.g. cows and deer) do. I've heard that some ecologists can even identify species at night by shining a bright light into the wilderness and closely observing what the reflections look like (and their spacing and height off the ground, obviously). But I mainly appreciate the flash for its aesthetic qualities...I find the intensity of the reflection quite beautiful.

Green is always a big cat. When you see two green spotlights staring at you from the brush 20' away, time to crap your pants. Large, yellowish with red, and low to the ground? Deer bedded down. Lol. My house cats are more green/yellow. Mountain lions are bright green.

I get that they're your pets and you spend a lot of time with them, but it never ceases to amaze me how you're able to distinguish between all these foxes, and remember their names, AND remember all their little quirks and behaviors. Then sometimes there's also cats and I think I saw a skunk?! Absolutely insane commitment, good job

DumbDuck44, you nailed it! In winter, we put out filling treats for our generations of fox families, and they always thank us by peeing on the empty bowl. A happy fox is a peeing fox. Agreed: foxes forever! 🌺
