I can explain the reason why many of these (and the MM2 ones) are bad, and it's a fun history entry from the MM fandom. The reason most of them are nasty is due to the fact that they were ripped directly from early emulators (I think Pasofami) back in the day that allowed you to export music as midi files that I did minor editing to afterwards (such as selecting terrible instruments for by today's standards). Support was only for a few early MM games, so, fortunately, we didn't have to suffer through later game rips. The early days of the internet were what they were. Also, most people didn't have Sound Blaster AWE64s at the time. I was bored so went searching for all of the midis I "made" all the way back in the late 90s (I think 1996?) as part of one of the ancient MM websites, "Tango's Mega Man Super Store". I'm amazed that they're still floating around to this day. The signature of these midis is the "beam in" sound that was never removed. I'm just now seeing the mm2wood videos and I really wonder if that was also one of them where the signature was masked or I actually removed it.. If someone has the original and can check the hex or midi details, I *don't* want to know, as I know mm2quick.mid was indeed one of them. Any of the "Tango-" or "MINDRAPE/EFX"-marked ones from the Pasofami ROMs were confirmed the rips from back then. Anything else with the "beam-in" was something someone I'm guessing revised and put into circulation. *EDIT: Checked the hex and details on some of these, and many of them are remixes and not the originals, so phew. At least I'm not taking the blame, even though I know many of these were sourced from those original emulator rips.
@@lemonsmug Quite possibly the originator of the original MIDI, but I can't say for certain if the one that reached critical acclaim/meme popularity is one of mine or just modified from it. I am Tango-, who ran the mentioned TMSS site and was involved in the MM community way back then though.
Interesting. they are the ones I would have downloaded and used in my animations. I think people found and liked them more because they had the bad versions of the MIDI in them, though through the years I would end up updating my animation file when I found "better" MIDI music for it. Some of the terrible ones are still there.
