@ 2:22. The usb receiver actually shows the same lights as the mic itself. So when It's low on battery the receiver with blink as well. I just use a extention cable to place the receiver on my desk.
We know, it is the #1 requested feature by far :D - When we do a product update / new version (not in the works at the moment) we're certainly going to swap to USB-C. We had to hit the sweet spot between weight and battery life, hopefully some new battery tech will come out between now and then that will let us get some more hours out of it without adding any weight! This is due to ensuring maximum adhesive life vs. battery time. Thanks for the suggestions though! We're on it for sure!
If the base version was 30$, I would've bought one already. But 50$ seems overpriced to me. The Uni is 63€ here in Germany, that's more than a Behringer C1 and a Behringer UM2 combined. We probably have the current human malware situation to thank for that.
@Alina RS The price history that I'm looking at tells me that the Uni was 50€ until february and it was at 60€ at the end or march. So my guess seems to be correct.
The wireless sounds comparatively bass-shy to my ears (I'm using Sennheiser HD 598SR's). May I ask what studio mic you are using? It sound very good, even with your room reverberance.
One thing I will suggest if you are going to go the 3.5mm route is try to find the ModMic 5 at a good price as that also has the two mic modes (uni-directional and omni-directional), just with no mute switch which you’ll have to get separately.
This is actually perfect timing. Lmao. I just bought the 58X after 2weeks of watching your videos about it and some other people. I wanna get this and a soundblaster G6. What do you think? I currently use a cheapo ffine k669b for my mic.
I'm using the uni and a fulla 3 mated to 58x's, KPH30i's, or mp retro's, depending on my mood. In the Fulla, the Uni sounds better than it did on this video, so ymmv depending on hardware. But it's a very solid combo.
I have SB G6, 58x, and modmic uni. For some reason my computer has trouble recognizing the modmic microphone audio input coming from the G6 despite me updating the drivers and screwing around with the settings. I'm going to get the USB modmic instead. The 3.5mm one was fantastic when my PC and G6 were actually getting along. As for sound quality the G6 is awesome and has a huge excess of volume for the 58X and the EQ software is smooth after updating the G6. At first it would keep turning off the EQ for no reason at all and would generally bug out and loose settings I had just configured minutes ago. I was ready to take it back until I got the update from their site. Now I'll stick with the G6.
@@TheNobleFive We've seen some issues with the G6 - here's the fix as far as we know. Get a Y adapter (A headphone + mic 3.5mm TRRS adapter) and use the headset port instead of the dedicated mic port. The G6 appears to have some issues with the standalone mic port.
@@JoshuaValour I was not considering the magnetic aspect. I was thinking more about physical obstruction/sound reflection. In the hd800s example, the housing of the wireless mic seemed quite significant compared to the outside opening of the driver, which was right underneath it.
I was also worried about damaging the driver but i researched a bit and decided to go for it. Currently i use the uni 3.5mm on a pair of HD800 for the past year or so and everything is OK, no issues at all. Originally I wanted the usb version but I figured I could use the 3.5mm for both my PC and console with ease and everything's worked out just fine.
thei have still all the old ones, and the 3.5 mod mice was too god for ppl thei removed it and did a new line up sad since this day i hate modmic company
Harsh :( While you may be cynical and think we revamped it for some secret Illuminati reason, the older generation was prone to picking up RF noise. Our priority was to clean up some of these minor issues while still maintaining quality. We think we've done it.
ive tried covering my open back headphones (vent?grill?) idk the correct term, but i covered it with the palm of my hands and it sounded bad. does using the modmic wireless in anyway affect your sound quality especially coz its larger than the other mics?
Also i dont recommend getting the uni if you dont want to deal with sound problems and weird realtek issues. They really scam with the usb extension so i would just get the usb mic for saving money and more features.
I have the Philips X2's. Would using a modmic cable be of worse quality than the cable that came with my headset, due to the cables rating for impendance? Guessing the Wirless won't attach to my Xfi Soundcard!? Trying to work out if to get one of these or just a seperate gaming headset for this price.
Honestly just get the mod-mic business.. Is it better than the others? No not really. But it is significantly cheaper and it works as well as a microphone ever has to work. I wouldnt stream karaoke with it but its more than good enough for playing some warzone online with friends. It also has more options for connectivity than the others making it more versatile. For my audio setup I have a dac/amp stack that doesnt allow for mic in because its not a feature I need very often and I didnt feel like paying a premium for gaming headphone amps that perform worse for music for my money. My solution? Full blown audiophile setup with no gaming compromises plus this modmic business. It comes standard with a usb adapter so i can plug it into my pc for steam games or discord no problem. As for console I use xbox and my console itself is like 8 feet away from my desk. But i can just use the standard 3.5mm jack to plug it directly into my controller or use a Y split to connect both my mic and headphones directly into the controller at the same time. The last beautiful thing to mention about the business model is that it does have a mute switch and does not have a mode switch. You plug it in and it works. Simple and works damn well.
they sound pretty good imo, which is weird because it seems like a cheap alternative and yet here we are. Out of curiosity do you have any blue tooth closed back headsets for mobile gaming you'd recommend them with?
I've though this gadget trough. I don't want a big clumsy headset on my head for hours during Teams meetings. Guess I need to find a small separate mic as all I want is good audio. Goodbye mic+headset combos! Was nice meeting you.
Hi Joshua, what mic are you using for your actual presentation and how far away are you from it? The only reason I was thinking of a modmic is because I can be a little further away from my webcam, which means I would be too far away from a desk mic (which I thought I need to be with 6 to 12 inches from). But you seem to be further away from your mic and yet you sound clear with clean background sound. Thanks
We include a cable anchor and a USB extension cable - the intent is to place the cable on your desk or in your peripheral vision and stick it to that surface to hold it in place. This way it is easy to spot when you are muted / low on battery. We're actually including a new insert (not seen in this video) to help explain this (You are not alone in having a problem with this!)
@@Sainicooldude01 Unfortunately we've been unable to secure a good vendor in India. For now the best way is to buy directly from us and import it. You may be liable for customs fees and taxes, just a warning!
I applied the mic like the instructions said on my HD6XX and I waited overnight before using them and the mount came off as I picked them up. How do you attach these?
Hi, i have ordered an X2hr which is a cabled headphone. Which mic would work best? If I do not take the wireless, does it mean I need 2 cables attached to my computer?
You can use a V-Moda Boom Pro mic which is pretty good. It replaces the 3.5mm cable the X2HR so you really only have one cable between the headphones and mic. Though because of that, the V-Moda is limited to headphones with a replaceable 3.5mm cable.
I got the USB modmic earlier this year because the headset work gave me was really, really bad. Put the modmic on the SHP9500, many hours a day of conference calls aren't as bad anymore. Sometimes I move the modmic over to the 177X when I need a closed back. Cannot figure out how to get the modmic to work on the Meze 99 Neo. :(
@@jay3176 The space available on the headband is quite small area the magnetic part mod mic attaches to. The mic itself did not come out far enough in front to get good audio. It is not that it did not work. It is just not great placement and made audio sound like the microphone was behind me per people I talked to. Now, I am not for putting the sticker for the modmic on the wood, if you don't mind doing that it might help.
Hey, I have the K701, does it pick up the sound coming from the headphones, since it's open-back? And I'm a fairly high-volume listener. Either gonna buy the modmic or go with a closed-back headset depending on this.
@@sillylieu Bro, i prefer open back cus i can still talk to family around me and not get fatigue and disoriented in long sessions. I use my condenser AKG C414 XL II with a rodecaster pro now. Very overkill i know but love it!
@@sillylieu a proper dynamic or condenser on a boom arm with an audio device and tweaked accordingly (gain, eq, limiter) in an acoustically treated room is the way to go. But u have to give audio that much importance for such a commitment lol..
@@AsySatya as i said it wont effect anything. According to antilon. Since like 2012? I believe thats when the first modmic came out. The guy who invented it is a very smart guy. So I believe it. They claim they haven’t had 1 complaint about damaged headphones ever
@@Mitchell999 its not damaging the headphone, on my can, they sound more clippy, just a miniscule, but i can notice it, its gone when i mount it at the bottom side
I've had the USB version for about two years and today it died on me. Apparently the cable got pulled on one to many times which must have internally damaged the wire. Even the 'mute button' that used to light up red no longer does so when I pressed it so the damage must be quite severe. This also seemed to have crashed my entire pc's mic system since not even my webcam mic worked afterwards. I had to restart the pc multiple times (or should have restarted just the microphone driver) to have this issue solve itself ... was quite worried for a few minutes that I had a permanent issue. In general I was very happy with it. It had an excellent sound quality. The magnets are strong and will not cause any issues. Also the 3M sticktape remains in place sturdy and has never come off. The magnets are the excellent kind of strong that they will release the microphone if the cable gets pulled to hard instead of staying attached to the headset, this will prevent breaking the cable. More than once throughout the 2 years that I had it did this happen to me. I guess the very last pull today, not even hard, was enough to finally make something inside the cable snap. So .. I'm a bit mixed feelings ... Do I go for a new one of the USB kind or go for the wireless one ... I must say I always hated how narrow and thus a bit flimsy the cable felt ... I would happily have payed a few € more and had a braided cable instead of the cheap feeling full plastic one.
The magnetic mount for the mic isn’t big enough to interfere with the sound. I used it on a pair of Audio Technica’s at one point and it sounded the same.
If they just make ModMic can be plugged directly to the ditchable mic port of any headset that have ditchable mic! Cooler Master MH630 is the King of Headsets of 2020! But wired ModMic UNI still beating every one!! I have HyperX Cloud Mix, I love it! but after suffering from the low mic audio for a long time I found it comes with a defect mic! so whom suffering from this issue it's a mic defect you should replace the mic under the warranty before it ends like what happened to me!
Perfect solution would be to move the lights closer to the actual microphone that way you could see them in your peripheral vision. Also in the future adding yourself typing on a mechanical keyboard while talking give a good sense for how much background noise you'll pick up with each mode.
A stand alone microphone sounds and looks better then those modmic's.... If you have an audiophile headphone it doesn't make sense to me to use an inferior microphone....
