Their APHE is also the default shell while you have to grind to R4 with each tank just to not suffer with that 59mm APBC poop. I started grinding Sweden yesterday and the tanks below 4.0 are PURE SUFFERING. I'd take a Panzer or T-34 over any S-tonk under BR5.0

The reason for the modern guns on old chassis is due to during the cold war, well just post WW2, the Swedish military wanted to roll out brand new modern armor, but there legislature laughed at the budget and said no, so they had to reequip WW2 chassis with modern guns and rounds! :)

Not true at all, the cold war military budget was absolutely massive, to the point that instead of phasing out the old systems the Swedish armed forced could afford to just upgrade them slightly and keep them in the service in parallel with modern systems. An example of this is Strv 74, based on the old Strv 42 chassis, being used alongside Strv 103 and 81.

Trophy system has four radar antennas and fire-control radars to track incoming threats, such as anti-tank-guided-missiles, and rocket propelled grenades. I think the Swedish mentality was that since someone eventually will invent a gun that can pen' modern armour anyway, so why not just remove it and give our tanks some other advantages like speed, manoeuvrability and *big* guns. Plus, for Swedish terrain and infrastructure, these things would dominate. Remember that Swedish doctrine is that they build tanks meant to defend their own country, which gives the Swedes a good adaptability advantage towards any invader.
None of these tanks would even get close to standing up to an American or Soviet MBT from the time. The vehicles in game are almost exclusively post war prototypes that were barely or never used, and were outdated when they came out.
@@quint2885 We have really good hardware here tbh. Your country gets shit from us. Even the Saudis got shit in the past. The AT4 was used a lot in Iraq, one of the most common light anti-tank weapons in the world. It got improved later and we called it "Pansarskott m/86". And my friend still uses it today, and he's in the ME. The M/45 (the Swedish-K) was used for 60 years. When Sweden cut off exports to the United States, an American company promptly copied it. The Navy SEALs preferred it for its ability to keep functioning in sandy conditions when conducting over-the-beach operations. I know of a good tank as well but i can't recall the name atm tbh.
@@quint2885 Quite correct, but because of the time and economy that Sweden was in they still managed to create clever and outstanding tanks that did what they where intended to do. Even with the severe limitations they faced. It's also important to take into account the fact that the US and Russia had both gained massiv tank engineering experience from the second world war which ment that they knew exactly what to do. Then we have the Swedish who had remained "neutral" throughout the conflict and this had no experience in creating tanks. Despite this they still managed to skip the massive testing phase and get straight to engineering impressive and efficient tanks.
@@quint2885 It's true that many of these tanks are paper tigers, prototypes that never came off the drawing board. However, they were never meant to stand up to a MTB. Even the Strv103 which saw active service could not fight it out with a US or Russian MBT in a straigh up battle. That's because every vehicle in the tech tree is built for one tactic and that's to fight defensively in Swedish terrain. Now for those of you that hasn't been too Sweden, with the exception of the southernmost parts and a large plain north of the capital, the terrain mostly consists roiling sand ridges covered with large boulders, most larger than a truck, and cut through with streams, rivers and lakes. With thick pine and fir forests blanketing everything. It is the perfect terrain for ambushes. Which is why Swedish vehicles all are fastish, lightly armoured with great guns and low profile. They are the armoured equivalent of a sniper. There to kill a couple of MBTs then relocate to the next ambush before the enemy even had time to figure out where the shot came from.
@@quint2885 A lot of these vehicles were used and not outdated at all. CV90 is still in use. And they were made to defend Sweden and its terrain. Not challenge an MBT in the desert. The Strv 103 was especially designed for the swedish terrain. It was more about technology and punching power than raw strenght.

@@ArcticWipeout not so often. i played a lot of German 6.7 recently and it was ok. mostly 6.7 -5.7 matches and bmp wasn't a big deal but these are same BR.
Now I could be wrong, but from what I know the reason the heat shell goes through the cage on the Strv 103C is because of how War Thunder calculates ballistics. Basically from what I know as far as the game code is concerned an actual shell is only 1 pixel large, so it won't take into consideration the size of the round when squeezing into small areas like between the cage even though it should never be able to go in between the bars realistically. This is why its possible to get really ridiculously small weak points in War Thunder because every round in only a single pixel in diameter. Again could be wrong, this just how someone explained it to me.
In this case, it's more the way warthunder just absolutely fails at modeling armor in general. It's impacting the cage, since it's modeled as a solid slab, because of that pixel system you mentioned. The failure here is two parts. 1) Spaced armor is a joke in this game. It will either absorb the entire round, or it might as well not be there. 2) Armor dimensions are absolutely fucked in this game. A few tanks actually model it properly. A few Soviet MBTs have their turrets work right with a dynamic armor. But the problem is that most armor is one thickness everywhere. You can have a 100mm x 500mm plate of steel in the game, and it will either be 100mm or 500mm from all sides. You can shoot it from the 500mm side, and it will act like it's 100mm instead. This spaced armor cage is labeled as 5mm. Only 5mm, of structural steel, which isn't actually rated as 5mm in game, it's weaker. So fuses view it as less than 5mm. In reality, those shells have to go through much more than "less than 5mm" of steel. The fuse on the rounds Phly tested didn't even detonate on the cage. It's completely broken.

"armor meta in 5.7: when you see somebody, they are dead". Cries in 5.0 Jumbo. The biggest penetration at that tier is the VFW (230), Comet (220), M4 SA50 (200), M4 Tipo IC (190). But 400mm HEAT at 5.7 does not sound right. And 240mm HEAT at 3.0? "It can hit planes. 1.0 higher." Whether it can really hit any planes remains to be seen. You failed 3 times. With radar. And at 10.0 you are getting killed by helicopters from 4 km anyways.
I feel like quite a bit of the community that play warthunder will agree with me on this, I hate seeing modern or semi modern fighting vehicles in my lower tier games. I personally play wartinder for the ww2 vehicles. Not the modern stuff, so seeing more and more modern vehicles below 6.0 is rather annoying and takes away from the experience of the game.
Add that to the fact that this invasion from the future is the only thing you'll be facing for the next few months. Everyone will be playing these because they're op :)

FYI - the Swedes use a unique numbering system based on the gun main caliber. The first number is the gun caliber divided by ten, the second number is the variant. Thus the IKV-91 is the first tank design that has a 90mm gun. The system is not entirely consistent though, all tanks with the 105mm gun are rounded down to the nearest whole number, thus the IKV-103, NOT the IKV10.53. The same goes for TDs, thus the Stridsvagn Strv-103 is the third TD with the 105mm gun.

Game used to be about tanks, so a lot of tanks in game sacrifice a lot of things to have good armour. But invasion force from future italy and Sweden have come to hurt our heavy tanks. The Maus is already long gone, Tiger 2 and IS tanks suffering. And now not even the low tiers are safe.

The CV90120 was supposed to be a light tank destroyer mostly in the north part of Sweden. The north consist of alot of swamp areas and hard to get throught with a heavy veichle. And so the put a 120mm gun on a lighter IFV chassi to go around and shoot tanks from the side and behind. It was just a concept and i don'tthink we produced any except a test veichle.
Just to note. The Delat torn is supposed to have a Autoloader. with a 3 round clip (+ 1 in the chamber) And during testing it was able to fire all 4 rounds in 8.2 seconds! So This thing will have great burst potential if its simulated correctly. And due to how the Clip is set up it could be constantly topped off (so if you fire 1 round the Loader would put another round into the clip to bring you back to 3 in the clip and 1 in the chamber) So i hopefully the current manual loading is just placeholder (Seems to be a lot of things in the dev blog that are hopefully placeholder since alot of things dont work as they should)

Only the CV90s has way too slow turret rotation compared to IRL as they are supposed to traverse hull and turret in opposite directions at full speed while remaining locked on target.

And the doctrinal sollution for that is the same as for the assault: make your own cover through firepower and mobility.

'muh 40s vehicles' look i think its unfair for some (see HEAT-FS, maybe APDS in some vehicles) post-war/cold war vehicles to play against ww2 vehicles. but people put to much focus on dates when it suits them but not when it doesn't. the tiger II should be able to face 75mm Shermans regularly if we are going on dates. things built-in 1946 to 1950-ish without HEAT-FS are going to be roughly equivalent to panthers for most nations, maybe alittle better and thus should be BR 5.7-7.0. the next issue is everything after around 5.7 needs BR expansion. thus allowing a greater range of cold war stuff. things with weak HEAT-FS and Recoiless rifles that have a hard time vs current 7.7s but are too good for ww2 stuff (which is useually too slow for them) allowing fun gameplay for all. the only issue it it would require alot more post-ww2 stuff to be added to existing trees (which there is alot of stuff still to add) but Gaijin is too focused on top teirs and new nations.
@@matthiuskoenig3378 its not only about date but that the armor looses its value with each patch. the high pen shells are going lower and lower. atgms used to be at top tier now you can find some at 6.7 and ww2 tanks are created for totally different role than cold war era ones. honestly i would rather face tiger with my sherman than atgms and heatfs that can fuck me up at any angle even on the thickest part of my "heavy" tank parts while i have no mobility to evade that if one slips by my blind teammates. the problem is not the ww2 tanks vs cold war ones.. its that these new vehicles make more and more of the heavy tanks complete nuisance with each path..

Well, when you consider the fact that the core of the mid tier Germany lineup is the Tiger and Panther, both of which rely significantly on their armor because of their large size, it isn't really surprising is it? To a gun that can pen them frontally they're much easier targets to hit at a distance than pretty much anything else at their br.
