You can't just say they are different overall. There's a reason why many words in language have more than one definition. Many apply meanings to it. No such thing as an improper understanding of a word. It's all based on the common knowledge of it.

we also actually see her as a child in the canon tie in manga regarding her origins, and she's explicitly stated to be a natural born female. also she's had occasional little bits of ship tease in different side materials with guys. (not that they go anywhere and given her profession and track record of going after some of the most dangerous galaxy ending threats... yea even if she tried to find time for romance unless they're on par with her they won't last)
