I am so so so so happy this woman is FINALLY getting a small amount of the recognition she deserves so thoroughly. It isn’t often I get to be proud of someone from my state, especially in any similar capacity to this. And who could any person be more proud to share the home counties with than Ruth Coker Burks? (Adding an edit for my own selfish ends): I often drag my wife along to visit the sites of old family homesteads around HSV, Tontitown, Gravette, Tahlequah, Broken Bow, Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Picher Oklahoma (til great-granny and grandpappy was forcibly evacuated) and the backwoods around and on the river cliffs of Elkins. What would a fella have to do to get to meet their hero and possibly buy her lunch or something? I just really want to meet Ms Burks between the next time I leave US412 in Paragould and get to the Holiday Inn Express right at US412 on Archer in Tulsa. RU-vid, can we help me at least DoorDash this wonderful lady some lunch or something until COVID is over?!
Just read the book and this woman is amazing! Can’t imagine how strong she must have been to go through all this alone in the 1980s. Wished she would get more recognition
I just watched this interview and I could have listened to Ruth talk for days. She is so interesting and her story is so powerful and also heart breaking. I have ordered a copy of this book as everyone says how goid it is and how emotional a read it is. I am glad this book was written and released as it is such an important story and an important part of modern history. These stories need to be told. Thank you for this wonderful interview.
